I'm done with Dragon Age now. The IP is dead to me.

Messere Laidlaw only sought to 'fix' the 'mess' of a game Brent Knowles left behind, hence all the redesigns absolutely no one asked for.

Dragon Age isn't totally dead yet but it's on the edge. The game really didn't sell all that well compared to the first and it honestly needed more development time since the whole game felt lacking in content. Epic fail.

I love how everyone is feeding off the hivemind's hatred for the game and beginning to take it personally.

Gaider himself has stated he didn't like how they rushed the game. Isn't that enough for you? If not, what about the fact that they're at least taking time to make good Story DLC? No? Ok, bye.

As for DA2, I liked it. It felt a bit like ME1, but they could have made the combat more pleasing with some control changes and more active combat options including a heavy attack and a special attack in addition to your combat abilities/powers. A block button would also have been nice in place of perhaps a special attack.

And this is why a lot of RPG fans rip their hair out due to comments like this.

DA2 is like ME. Mission accomplished, laidlaw. Mission effing accomplished.

<_<

I thought RPG fans didn't have much hair left. Due to being so old and everything.

And after Oblivion.

I've said it before, but I'll weigh in again. I love and hate DA2. I hope Bioware gives us DLC's and expansions with more content than they gave in DA:O and hopefully right what is wrong with DA2... If they fail to do so, then I'll just have to wait and see how DA3 plays out, if there is a DA3, before I jump ship.

I will say the 'small ship' that was Bioware was a much better ship than the current EA Titanic, which I can only hope one day sinks.

This is pretty much how I feel. Bioware productions are no longer a "must buy" for me, since the quality of their work has gone so far downhill. I'm not optimistic that they'll turn the ship around though.

Wow! Sticking with ME for now. Don't plan on getting DA2 anytime soon.

No, it's definately not enough for a developer to simply state that they 'didn't like' being rushed. That will not make me purchase DA3. What will make me purchase DA3, is if they do not rush it - utterly regardless of whether any or all developers love or hate being rushed.

Simply put, it took one great game (DA:O) to get me interested in the series, and one terrible game to put me off (DA2). That puts me in a position where I'm completely indifferent to the DA universe. Whatever level of credit/customer loyalty/satisfaction Bioware had build up from DA:O is wiped clean.

I don't really see how. They didn't like how they rushed development of the game, so they're taking time to make sure they at least get the DLC part right. That should speak enough about the staff. They could've just said "Well we rushed this game. Let's not even put any effort into the DLC. Not like it will matter anyway." But they didn't. So I fail to see what is wrong with that.

Cleary they should not do anything, they should just let DA2 rot. :P

Used to be a time when companies would just use patches to add in things that they didn't have time to finish or perfect before the game launches.

Now, it's via DLC. I think that's the problem Jabba has.

Or, idk.

But yes, I would like some DLC that fixes up the game especially in terms of story and quest content. Obsidian is doing the same thing with their New Vegas DLCs to better flesh out a more personal story for your character.

I don't think DLCs will "fix" Dragon Age 2 from my perspective, unless it completely overhauls a lot of the game, many of my problems lie in design, structures and oversight. DLCs usually don't fix anything like that but good DLCs will undoubtedly make the game better. That's something that's hard to legitimately complain about. Unless they are expensive of course.

And while I don't know much about Bioware games as most of the community on here, and whether Laidlaw is fit to be on the Dragon Age staff, I do respect the man somewhat (since I've only played DA:O and DA2, I can't say where he's fit to be lead designer, so no hate please. However, his "play it on hard" comment did ****** me off). Key word being somewhat.

Also, I find it funny that he's now absent from the forums. I guess he took over Bin Laden's position as hide-and-seek world champion.

Patchs never added new story and such, that's what expansions did, and you had to pay for that.

Story DLC which will then cost the player further money from the full price of the game they paid for, a game, which in the words of various people, devs included, had been rushed(and obviously not at it's full potential, though crap combat remains crap combat). Financially it's not fair, I wouldn't know anything about the ethical side of it. Which is why I had been arguing for free story DLC as a "make up" pack for players, but it seems I'm just stupid and entitled for thinking that way.

If it isn't broken, don't fix it

yet DA2 is broken. Shouldn't they try to fix it?

I expressed almost the exact same thoughts a week or two ago in a similar thread. Sorry, it's not a hive mind. Some people actually aren't impressed with DA2 and Bioware's new direction.

Laidlaw's major roles in the company have been working on Jade Empire and Dragon Age 2. I don't know what role he played during Dragon Age: Origin's development, but he only became Lead Designer at the start of 2009, when the game's story and content were finished. The major things Laidlaw worked on there as Lead Designer was overseeing testing, probably some balancing and of course, the port to consoles.
