I'm done with Dragon Age now. The IP is dead to me.

Unpleasable Fanbase

You
actually think that the majority of the fanbase for this genre enjoyed
playing DA2?  Recycled maps are a minute detail?  Seriously?

Wow...

I "actually think" that the fanbase is just one giant minefield full of people barking at one another.

But yes, after the about the fifth "different" cave that looked exactly the same I grumbled. Just a little. Then got on with it. It's not like it destroyed my way of life.

I calm myself down by rationalizing the fact that most of the area looks the same because, well...it's taking place in the same area. Did your hometown change significantly over the years until you simply couldn't recognise anything? I'm sure there are plenty of towns/cities that remain mostly the same aside from a few additions.

Like that statue of Hawke that gets added in Act 3. And the complete removal of that shop/charity place thing in Act 2 where you started to find Anders.

Know why there are so many threads like this?

I'll let you in on the secret: DA2 sucked.

Just because it sucked for you does not mean it sucked for other people.

It sucked for the majority.  Hence the Metacritic raiting.

And ME2 has a high score and that game sucked. Rating mean nothing to me, Bioware will listen to proper critiism and proper reviews, not hyperbole and over the top whining.

One could argue, and given the circumstances; quite successfully, that bioware didn't listen to "proper criticism and reviews" and thus propogated DA2. Which, by the way, did not recieve as high as score as they wished. Now if it meant nothing, why would bioware ever convey concern over it?

You managed to establish a completely unrelated fact by comparing two completely unrelated variables. Bravo.

Are you talking about the game that got 79 on metacritic? Or are you somehow trying to say that the majority of the players who bought DA2 rated it poorly on metacritic? I see 1620 reviews there. They've sold at least several hundred thousand copies, so maybe your definition of "majority" is different than mine. :?

Bioware tried something new, it did not work for many fans, however some peopel who don't like DA2 don't make itt here mission to keep on complaining, flaming and just out right ****ing about the game, they move on. Bioware and eA will learn from this mistake or bring Bioware to the ground.

The thing is that a good sequel should try to build on its predecessor. Our tone of voice changes when Hawke speaks. That was Dragon Age II's big innovation. That's it. Nothing new other than that. I mean there are good things. Crafting is improved, and so is the dog.

Although Mike Laidlaw literally said he chose to have repeated levels. I mean come on. Couldn't he have shifted resources away from all those fetch side-quests to hire a few more level designers. I expected a decent game and maybe a very good game. But some of the design choices were just plain dumb. Again regardless of how much extra money and time you gave Bioware certain things remain the same. Some things were clearly intentional, and that is what hurts the most. That a lot of dedicated developers slaved over this game for eighteen months to have their work amount to hate threads, and poor reviews. It's not fair for them. They tried.

I do agree with your points somewhat, and I said it before, its the LD's responsibility to take the praise/blame in a situation like this. I have nothing against the devs/writers at all, and I wish them luck. But DA2 was a lackluster game, and does deserve the flak its getting. Maybe it will inspire everyone to make the next game (which ever IP they work on) better than the last one they worked on.

Forgive my rambling, a bit tired and just finished hamburger helper. -_-

Did you, now.

Not at all. If that were the case I would have abandoned the IP right after the game came out, or even earlier. DA2 being an awful game is only the start of my issues: the main ones are Laidlaw's basic attitude, the fact that he hasn't been held responsible for DA2 and is still in charge of the IP, and an overall complete lack of BioWare and the DA2 team acknowledging that what they did was a mistake. Laidlaw even seems to go so far as to basically say that every change he made was correct and it's our fault as the players that we don't like DA2. Almost every comment I've read of his has been poison in my ears, and so long as he's in charge I have no interest in DA2 any more.

This is not an isolated incident. BioWare has been on a slippery slope for a couple of years now, and is clearly engineering their games more for the mainstream console market with an obsession of making everything streamlined and action-packed, and I for one am sick of it. I got into BioWare games because they weren't the samey, generic, action-packed mindless drivel infesting most of the market, and now they seem to just be jumping on the bandwagon. But again, I'm sure it doesn't matter losing old fans so long as they make their millions by appealing to the much larger "herp derp" audience, even if their games are nothing more to these people than another thing to play between Call of Duty's.

I suppose that's true. DA2 can be considered as sucky as games like Soul Calibur, Perfect Dark, Tales of Vesperia, and Mirror's Edge, all of which earned a 79 on metacritic. I enjoyed DA2. I'm looking forward to DA3. Sure, there are things I hope they address in DA3 that I didn't like in DA2, but on the whole I enjoyed the 50+ hours I put into DA2 across multiple playthroughs, and I'm looking forward to putting another 50+ hours into DA3.

No, it's called being a fan of Bioware enough to buy DA 2 on faith and being disappointed not only with the game, but their attitude towards it and criticism. It's less about the game and more about direction.

You really have tunnel vision, don't you madhatter?

He read Laidlaw's comments in the May edition of GameInformer. So, it was after playing DA 2.

To Terror_K, the game was disappointing, but the comments (indicating direction for future games) was the straw that broke the camel's back.

I read stuff that concerned me about the game, and read stuff Laidlaw said that made me think that DA2 probably wasn't going to be as good as DAO and was going to be lacking in choices, too streamlined and linear and too console-ified, but I still thought there may be a decent game in there. I still gave it a shot. It wasn't until I played it that I realised it was worse than I had even thought in most aspects and it wasn't until comments from Laidlaw after the game was out and after I'd played it that I really started to become annoyed with DA2 and the people behind it.

Everybody is allowed to make mistakes, but the important thing is you learn from them. Laidlaw, the DA2 team and BioWare as a whole show no signs to me of learning at all.

Than he truelly is an idiot for letting some bull**** interview be his judge for how a game could turn out. He reminds me of those dumb*** who went by what Pter Molyneax said while buying Fable I. Play a game before making any decisions! You might just like it, despite what some clueless developer said.

What Im really saying is.. Play DA 3 before making a decicions. It might just be vastly different from what youre expecting

Or, and who knew this could happen, he/she didn't like the game long before reading the interview and then after reading the interview grew fed up with Bioware!

I know, it's shocking isn't it how that could happen?!
