No, his/her perception of Dragon Age 2 was set in stone after playing. It was the perception of future Bioware games that were affected after reading the interview.

Same freaking thing! A lot could happen between now & two years from now. So dont go around assuming things about other things that arnt set in stone, Its unfair to bioware.

Lol, so now you're angry at me too for telling you what Terror_K actually said instead of putting words into his/her mouth?

Meh.

Terror_K isn't happy with Dragon Age 2 or Bioware.

Deal with it.

trust me Ultipup, this is me being civil.

People would know when I'm not being civil because, you know, I'm terribly obvious about it.

Its not a personal attack! Im calling out some ones BS! His perception on a game series can NOT be based on what he thinks of the makers ideas & one games design alone.

& I am no hater. I have nothing against the guy, just his stupid excuse for giving up on a great game series.

You called him a douche and then an idiot. That sounds like personal attacks to me.

I disagree. Laidlaw is not just "a designer", he is the Lead Designer. As such, it is under his direction that Dragon Age 2 was made. I'm sure that the higher ups gave him a project deadline and a checklist to complete, but the foundation and design of the game was his, and mostly his.

And yes, my perceptions of a game and/or future games may be impacted by what the Lead Designer of said game has, especially in regards to the game's flaws and/or criticisms. I'm not saying it always does, but it sometimes does.

For me, it doesn't really impact me much. My opinions of Dragon Age 2 aren't really changed based on what Laidlaw said.

But I can understand why it would affect the opinions of other people, for future games.

You're missing out, i don't post much over there but most of the threads, particularly the ones about DA2, are hilarious. I also will lurk some of the forum "p&p" games that get run and its pretty funny. Overall rpgcodex gets a bad rep from the BDF because they aren't ashamed to say what they think about new gen rpgs. Seeing how bioware is one of the only companies really attempting these games they can get ridden pretty hard.Though given that DAO was no BG2, it was still incredibly well recieved over there.

First rule of Codex?

Lol jks. It's a good forum if you have a good internal crap filter. The signal to noise ratio isn't always great, but there tons of good posts and discussions inbetween the lulz.

It's definitely gotten an unfair bad rep though.

But Bioware doesn't even get most of their mainstream RPG hate. Bethesda post-Oblivion definitely does.

BG 2 was even ranked their 5th best RPG.

Personally, I have my doubts.  But I suppose we can always hope.  So please, folks, let's keep the personally-directed angst and the veiled gay jokes out of it.

OP nailed it. I followed Bioware for years, since Baldur's Gate actually, and have day-1 bought all their games. I even loved Jade Empire.

But this pile of crap...I can't even fathom it Nothing about this game is good or a step forward. Nothing.

The only thing that would satisfy me at this point would be a flat-out admission that DA2 was a disaster and a promise to never go down that road again.

Also, fire Mike Laidlaw.

Laidlaw will not be fired, I highly believe this. Moved to a different team? Possibly. But no one gets fired over a bunch of people overreacting to a game. No one deserves to lose their job in these times.

I'd like to ask, what are some other good/great/amazing/makeyou**** RPGs out there. I must admit I only know a scant few, but I'd like some suggestions on what to play.

I will be getting The Witcher sometime soon, and then The Witcher 2 so don't worry about that.

While I've got nothing against Mike ( ... honestly, this scapegoating is pointless ) the franchise has indeed lost its direction. Dragon Age II is the first and last BioWare game I buy on faith alone. That said, I do hope that they will deliver big time with Dragon Age III and win some of us back as I really have a lot of respect for their previous works.

Oh how litlte you understand investors and business. Everyone is well aware he spearheaded a sequel that was almost idiot-proof to make seel a bajillion copies. Instead, sales dramatically declined from the original, and it was universally perceived as a step backwards.

When investors see things like that, they get upset. When they get upset, heads roll.

It is possible, of course, that this is just being played off as a "fluke" and the next game will be given a lot of time and money to complete to the best of th dev's abilities.

Given they're under the thumb of EA, I doubt it.

Right. I'm the one who has no idea how things work.

A lot of companies end up making bad games. Its not all because of one person. Its a joint effort. They don't fire a person because "oh hey this game suck fire everyone who worked on it". That's stupid. It was one game dude.

I have too many forums and such to visit as it is!

@at the laidlaw fire comment..

I don't think he should be fired at all. Moved off the DA franchise, yes. Maybe give him a team and he can make his beloved JE2 sequel that he tried to make DA2 into.

That breaks the definition of loyal doesn't it? If you are you'll stick with them even if they did kind of screw up.

Laidlaw is not going to be fired. Nor do I think he should be. If he did a bad job according to his bosses, he'd probably be gone by now.

I'm hoping they shuffle him to some side project (hopefully like a JE 2) while they bring in someone like James Ohlen after TOR development starts to slow down.

Depends what kind of RPG you look for. There are plenty and plenty kinds of RPGs.

Specifically, what did you like in Origins and what didn't you like in DA 2?
