Why Athenril/Grace?

I could see why someone might want to romance either one.

Athenril may have gotten your family into the city and she is reasonably ethical (when compared to the coterie).  You do spend a year with her off screen.  Hawke could have developed feelings in that time.

Grace might be of interest to those Hawkes who are sympathetic to the plight of the mages.  A relationship with her would have shown us just how mages outside the circle live in the Free Marches.

Heck, even Petrice might be a reasonable romance for a pro-chantry Hawke.  She is about as fanatic as any of the other companions.

I love Athenril. She just gives off a vibe that I love. Plus, she's among the couple dozen elves (at most) who actually look amazing with the new look. And when compared to the Coterie and Meeran, she is the more ethical one.

Grace because, well, she's hot. I'll admit it, I'm somewhat shallow. Also, for what Paeyne said. It might give some more insight into the plight of the mages.

You say this like no guy ever tries to start a relationship with a girl just because she is Hot.

Hotness is a perfectly valid reason to start a romance.  How much depth the relationship would have is another matter.

Petrice was SO hot with those dark rings around her eyes, suggesting generations of inbreeding.

Petrice is a sister, and thus her fruit is forbidden.

I see your point otherwise, though.

I definitely do want depth in relationships. Sadly, the girls I've dated don't allow for much depth because they weren't my type of girl.Image IPB

I don't draw much of a distinction between Petrice's anti-Qunari and Anders' anti-templar.

They both have valid reasons in their own mind and they both are willing to do what is necessary to further their goals.

I don't see how, as a romance option, one is any more valid than the other.

I'd say the main difference is that Petrice was focused on the qunari in Kirkwall, who weren't really doing anything other than looking for the Tome of Koslun. Anders was trying to take down the extremely oppressive and harmful templar order as a whole. If Petrice was somehow trying to cripple the entire qunari war machine, I'd be more sympathetic.

I did find Sister Petrice to be somewhat attractive.

Actually, she does not know that, they claim that they came here by accident and their excuse for not leaving is that they are waiting for ships from Par Vollen. All lies and they never reveal why they are there.

So you have a few hundred armed men in the middle of the city of Kirkwall, with undeclared intentions and who are clearly lying about why they are still there, binding their time for some obscure reason and who are attracting more and more converts (which means a bolstering of their numbers).

She may not have been wise in her response (or in her hatred of "heathens"), but she had every right to be very suspicious.

The Chantry priests are not permitted to marry but they are not sworn to celibacy either.

Petrice could romance Hawke, she just couldn't marry him.

I'm not saying one is any more valid. I just find the idea of getting down with Petrice very revolting. Something about her face I just don't like. It might be the evil.

Well, Petrice certainly wins the Chantry Mother of the Year for Actually Doing Things award. But... really, if you have a few hundred armed men in the middle of the city with undeclared intentions, why is it a good idea to do everything possible to ****** them off?

Petrice could romance Hawke, she just couldn't marry him.

Doesn't Sebastian refuse to sleep with Hawke for reasons of celibacy? And Leliana brings up the whole "forbidden fruit" thing with those who have taken vows.
But if it is just a marriage issue, well... my Hawke couldn't marry Petrice even if she wasn't a mother.

Given Hawke kills Grace's husband right in front of her (unless i'm thinking of wrong mages now) i'm not sure that's really a pairing that would work well, or at least didn't feel like serious case of deja vu.

You're subconsciously picturing Anora in her place, few years older.

Because she was also blinded by hatred.

I liked Act 2 but one thing that makes little sense is the seeming lack of involvement from Meredith. She has the strongest military in Kirkwall and she was the de facto ruler. What was she doing all this time? Was she supporting Petrice, hence her confidence?

Meredith should have been directly introduced in the plot in Act 2, not at the end. Not only for reasons of more character development, but also because it makes little sense politically fo her not to have been active around that time.

Maybe that's why I am finding her attractive.

That expression is just begging for someone to make her smile.

Hmm could swear she'd explicitly referred to him as her husband in the dialogue. Either when you run into them or at some later point.

Paeyne did bring up a good point about Anders; I can't hate her just for wanting to start a war. And I don't hate her, really; she was just badly misguided. I'm even tempted to do a playthrough where I side with her, with a Hawke who was horrified by the Saarebas issue.

My best guess is that she was busy with the mage underground. Given her "BLARGH MAGES" stance, it probably seemed far more important than a bunch of muscleheads in the Docks that her templars likely outnumbered anyway.
