So Mass Effect is centered more to the male gamer, right?

In a game like Mass Effect there are endless possibilities with character creation, So BioWare took the original Commander Shepard and uses him for the trailers and box art. Sheploo is the default Shep, he is the original Commander Shepard. He will be used for all box art and trailer.
No one really cares about box art! Play ME with your Shepard, if it isn't the one on the case then who cares. Like really! Just don't look at the case then.
The game is rated M for mature though it seems that there is a lack of maturity here.

seriously
how is that crew cut going? there is no Bioware conspiricy only
catering to the men all the time, you only see what you want to see and
its kinda sad how far you take it over a game
Alright, most of the posts about male centric gaming aren't overtly meant to be sexist or discrimitory and some people make good points. But this? Really? Disgusting.
Bring valuable points or bring nothing at all.

Ignorance? Its the truth lol. All those
statistics that say there are about 40% female gamers also include
"games" like online poker, flash games and online board games like
chess. You do know this right?
I wouldnt call a poll who asked females if they play poker online and then calling them "gamers" seriously.
The real number is much lower than around 40%
Sigh...Ignorance
Unless you have actual statistical evidence of the type of games women play, just stop. I agree the proportion of women playing games marketed to hardcore gamers is smaller. To what extent, I won't venture a guess, and whether or not it's because they don't like them or aren't given much of a chance to by advertisers is another debate.
But you're ignoring the fact that some of those male gamers aren't going to be playing the same games either. Or are we all playing FPS's and football games? 'Cause we're all buff and manly like that?
But the population of women that play hardcore games is growing, regardless of the actual proportion. And it might grow faster if more attention was given to some of the features that women or both genders might enjoy. I'd venture a guess, a completely unsupported one, but a guess none the less. That women enjoy mediums that allow them emotional investment. Whether despite or including what else is in the game (shooting, hamster petting, global genocide, w/e). RPG's offer that. And it'd be worth highlighting.
This conversation is beginning to irk me, so I will politely discontinue further debate to avoid getting too involved.

Actually, he isn't. Just look at the various demos from when ME1 was in development. Not sure exactly when they adopted that face, but it wasn't for quite awhile. Also, the ME1 box art Shep isn't Sheploo either.

It was probably an early depiction of Mark Vanderloo's face which they later redid, as there is a clear resemblance between the current version and the original version.didymos1120 wrote...

Inasmuch as it's a shaven-headed human male in armor, sure. The resemblance pretty much ends there though. It's just plain not the same face. In fact, I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be the actual, original Shep as seen in, say, the X06 video.

Yes, pretty much. To say otherwise is to split hairs to an unreasonable degree. --> It's like saying the original Miranda wasn't Yvonne Strahovski b/c the Miranda in the "Fight for the Lost" commercials isn't really her, or that one of the early designs had her with blond hair.Fiery Phoenix wrote...

From what I've seen and heard 99% of gamers are complete idiots anyway, playing trash like Call of Duty. Frankly it's ridiculous, if you compare the amount of effort and overall game quality of ME2 and CoD7, there is no argument that BioWare and Mass Effect are way ahead in terms of game quality (DA2 an exception). Nevertheless, the pathetic money grabs of the CoD franchise which are released on an annual basis are at the top of games sales, and will be for years to come. It's beginning to become frustrating. ME2 was years worth of effort and an incredible step up from it's predecessor, simply put, an incredible artistic and technological achievement much like other sequels such as The Sims 2 and Half-Life2. On the other hand, when I first saw CoD7 I could have sworn it was just a modded version of 6, with news maps and weapons, + a godawful fps campaign. Phew, sorry guys i know it's irrelevant, so gaming rant over.
It's just, an incredible game franchise like Mass Effect deserves more than trash like Call Of Duty. That's all I'm saying, but I quote myself, 'People are Idiots.'

If you read my other posts, you'd know I don't give a sh*t about the box art. I argued that EA was ignoring a large potential audience with their overall marketing campaign. It may be wiser to include more story/character/customization/roleplay-type stuff in the demos or gaming expo presentations, since all this combat, combat, combat nonsense is a potential turn-off for the female gamer.JetsoverEverything wrote...

You're right.
I don't want boobloo's replacing my sheploo's.
After all, it's more covienient to maintain showing sheploo's than boobloo's.

Hi, I'm new to the Forums and was pushed to join by a friend. I've been with ME since the first one and hope to happily discuss everything there is to ME.
Alright, now to the task at hand. As we all know, ME gives you the option to either be a male or female Commander Shepard. But obviously, the one used for all the media coverage is Sheploo, the default male Shepard. So, did Bioware throw in Jane Shepard just to please a certain minority? I seem to think so. Being male I was never bothered by this in the start but I have a friend who happens to be a girl who also happens to play Mass Effect as a female Commander Shepard.
Does Bioware acknowledge she exists? Obviously they do (even though many disagree). I do like many others, but to what extent do they? Now, let me make this very clear.
The media
Sheploo this, sheploo that!
Nope, no Jane Shepard here.
Nope, not here either.
This issue sits right there with Shepard romancing... let's say.... Kaidan. Would a gay Shepard be bad for publicity. In this moment in history? Yes. Would a female Shepard be bad for publicity? No. You have Miranda, a character sexualized to great extent by Bioware, but not the cool and confident Femshep?
Many have said that alternate covers would have worked. Not really, no. But a default with no Shepard would have.
Now that's more like it! Kinda anyway.....
Did Bioware learn they're lesson? Perhaps. Or perhaps this is just a placeholder since ME3 is still 1 year away. But putting poor ignore Femshep on the back of the of the case would have also gained some points in my eyes. Why not do that? Heck, they didn't even, in both games, imply on anywhere in the covers that you could play as a women.
But Femshep has been used in the media believe it or not! In the back of the ME1 case, there is a screenshot of a women wearing the N7 armor with helmet and visor on. Something is something I guess.
In the end, you the community are always the judges.
80% of Mass Effect fans play as a male Shepard, bioware has published these statistics already. It makes sense to focus on the this majority. This has been dug into the ground get off your soap box and kindly be quiet.

Calm down brosef. I agree.
The Mass Effect 3 cover should have boobloo's and sheploo's working side-by-side.
Maybe even Liaraloo and Kailoo, with a dash of Ashloo.
