Sheploo's face is modeled after the dutch model Mark Vanderloo.

FemShep's face is just a generic computer-generated face.

That's why Sheploo is on the cover.

And it's too late to complain now.

See that you find out what will be BioWare's next big trilogy and start spamming their mailboxes with demands that they put a female on the box cover, but leave Mass Effect alone.

Sheploo has less letters, fools.

Stop screwing around.

Why are you gonna write a longer word when you can write something shorter that has the same meaning?

Calm down brosef. I agree.

The Mass Effect 3 cover should have boobloo's and sheploo's working side-by-side.

Maybe even Liaraloo and Kailoo, with a dash of Ashloo.

I take it you have no idea what "Sheploo" stands for. That's the only reason I can imagine for you to think your jokes make any sense.

Sheploo = Shepard + Vanderloo

Mark Vanderloo is the default Shepard's face model.

i dont understand why the fact that sheploo is the poster child bothers all of you so much.

i mean seriously instead of complaining about the fact that she has no unique animations you guys are fighting over box art???

If you read my other posts, you'd know I don't give a sh*t about the box art.  I argued that EA was ignoring a large potential audience with their overall marketing campaign.  It may be wiser to include more story/character/customization/roleplay-type stuff in the demos or gaming expo presentations, since all this combat, combat, combat nonsense is a potential turn-off for the female gamer.

Says the girl that plays Halo... >_>;

Im sorry. I was just using the box art as a quick example.

AdmiralCheez AKA the Big Daddy of the Mass Effect forums is a girl? Wow, even though I'm on these forums a lot I had no idea. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't make any difference, I'm just surprised, is all.

Checks female representation of each race.

Humans both.
Quarians both (but practically humans anyway).
Stripper race.
Nope for salarians.
Nope for turians.
Nope for krogans.
Nope for elcor.
Nope for volus.
Nope for drell.

But Sandor, the only reason you think the gender skews here are problematic is because you want deviant alien sex or something! Not you know, finding the representation, and the fact that the fandom doesn't pick up on it as demonstrating an uncomfortably waspy viewpoint.

I'm not sure either.

You, phaedon, didymos1120 and Pacifen are competition for that title.

Well yes this is certainly the case in fluff. But that's because bioware made the choices to have this be so. They're not making a documentry here, and noting down what they see, they're creating a fictional universe. Which leaves the extent to which we've just seen male representation of basically all the races open to question.

It's no one descision. The krogans are done for a very interesting reason, and it seems like it would be really interesting to explore the effect that has opon salarian society (we get an all too brief look sure). However, when all taken together, then yeah, it sets off little red flags to me.

I know that people say that it's for the male gamer, but I kind of found Mass Effect to be kind of gender ambiguous. But that kind of goes for most Bioware RPGs. I remember when I first bought Dragon Age, my sister was the one that commented by saying "Oh my gosh! I couldn't find this! I LOVE this game!" Then she proceeded to play it before I did. Oddly enough, you'd think a game that had males all over the place with the option to play as a woman would appeal to a woman before a man.

As for the advertising thing? I always found that strange that Bioware didn't market both. Or simply leave Sheperd off the front cover. It's not like anyone would pick up Mass Effect look at it and say "Eew... A woman. I'm not getting this." I mean, if that's the case, why is Ashley on the front?

That said, I like both gender Sheps. Both of them bring a smile to me for different reasons.

Sheploo is the face of Mass Effect. Why would they change it now?

It's a lot easier to pick one variation of Shepard for marketing and just go with it. It would be too confusing to some people if Bioware kept jumping between male and female Shepard.

So... well, I don't really follow your logic.
In Portal 2, the main character is female, right? So, following your logic, that game is more for the female players?
Or the Pushing Ice by Alastair Reynolds? Because of the main character, is it more for female audience?

I'm pretty sure you know where I'm pointing at. It's not a sign of sexism, it was just a decision to make. It would have been either male or female commercial face, and they chose this one.
We could also ask if the game is more for causcasian palyers, because default Shepard is not Japaneese for instance. Or if it's more for US players as the character clearly doesn't speak in Russian, etc.
