Me? Yeah, I guess you'd say I am. ;)

They've never put out a game that's disappointed me until DA2. And one game isn't going to drive me away or have me declare BioWare dead.

Not even NWN's official campaign?

lol Alistair...that was truly terrible, persistant worlds alone kept that game alive until now.

As for topic, I would say so, despite imo, only half their games actually being 'good'....

Nope. Even though I agree it's not their best offering, I played through it 4 times with various class combinations. Enjoyed it a lot. I can't see me playing through DA2 again.

Persistant worlds and some VERY good single player mods.

I like Bioware. I just think they are stepping on their crank with their poor quality release of DA2 and some of their poor DLC content. As long as in the future they don't let EA dictate their quality of games and fold on pushing on releasing their games before they polished and finished, I will continue to support Bioware. That being said I will however be more skeptical about their future releases such as Dragon Age.

Agreed! I cannot for the life of me start another playthrough of DA2. I've played BG1 5 times, BG2 12 times, NWN 7 times, KOTOR 9 times, ME1 4 times, DAO 11 times and ME2 8 times. DA2 is less enjoyable than the Mako and planet scanning put together. Just my personal opinion, of course.

For me DA:O was the best game ever. period. That's not to say it was perfect in every aspect. I just simply never had a better time playing a computer game.

DA2 could have been a great followup. Bioware could have done a DA:O 2 - same basics, follow up on the open leads of Origins and at the very least respect for the CRPG genre (spawning ninjas dropping form the sky is lack of such respect) DA2 tries to broaden the audience, but by doing so alianates the tradition fanbase, who likes Bioware for the traditional genre of CRPG such as BG, NWN and DA:O.

Does BIoware "owe" to their fans to stay making games for us CRPG'ers? Hardly, it's their IP. They should however be aware that it's mutually exclusive to cater to traditional CRPG fans and the more casual gamers who'd like DA2 (but likely found DA:O long winded and corny). Then Bioware should realize that they need to pick either group .. I'd say let it be up to the sales figures to speak for themselves.

I'd liken NWN to playing something like Diablo. You are doing the same thing ,but because you only have one character it's still a very different experience each time. In party games even if you change the class of the protagonist the overall make up of the party is usually quite similiar only the roles change.

Granted that I only buy 3 games per year, and 2 of them at least, are BioWare, I'd say that I am a most 'loyal' fan. I like them so much because they listen to their fans, they focus on small details and they almost are the only ones that create meaningful games with rich worlds and story and let you control things in the game, through character creation and allowing your decisions in them to have an impact.
That said, I really wanted to ask you Maria : What is your favourite RPG?

I'll pick Bioware every time.  For me it's the safer bet.  Now that particular set of conditions would never come about but when most things are equal Bioware's track record and name will win me over everytime.

When I go shopping, I'll usually get whatever is the least expensive of a type of item... except for those few brands I've come to trust (or learned to trust because I grew up with them).  Paper towels... whatever's cheapest.  Tuna... always buy the same name brand.  Ditto for peanut butter.  Same for ketchup.

When Heinz repackages its ketchup in a new container, there's always something on the label that says-- "New look, same great stuff".  The problem is, with DA2, they did the opposite.  They said, essentially, "Same Dragon Age, new stuff inside!"  There's nothing wrong with that, but I think they ultimately did themselves a disservice, perception-wise, by calling it "Dragon Age II".  It's not a direct sequel, nor was it ment to be.  Better to have called it, "Dragon Age: Kirkwall" or something else.

For me, the brand is intact.  I recognize DA2's flaws, but I am not ready to put Bioware in the "paper towel" category yet.

You are right. Its not the case to put Bioware in the "paper towel" category. I loved Mass Effect, preordered Dragon Age Origins, preordered Awakening, preordered ME2, preordered DA2. But after DA2 im not willing to consider Bioware's products further as a sure bet.
As for Mass Effect 3 and the upcoming DLC's for DA2 i lean back and wait until there are enough User Reviews (not game magazines reviews)  to make up my decision if i buy a DLC or the next installment of DA or ME.

The direction that DA2 went, left a sad taste in my mouth. If i buy again a Bioware product depends now from the direction their product will go. I dont buy the products "blindly" as i did.

A fan, yes. Loyal? I don't think that word has any meaning in this context. I currently have 11 major games installed on my HD, and play them on and off, 7 titles are Bioware. The others are 2 Bethesda, 1 Obsidian and Mount & Blade.

Best I can say is I buy more Bioware than any other, but it's not automatic. I disliked the concept of JE, and dislike the idea of MMO, so that's 2 that will never grace my HD.
I look at all the things people don't like about DA II, and it seems to me that none of them are new to Bioware. ME 1 recycled areas ferociously, but it didn't really detract from the game (for me). Respawns happened in BG1 in a few areas too, which was as much a pain then as it is now, but again, nothing new for Bioware. Same with fully-voiced protagonist and convo wheel. If I don't object to them in some games, why should I object to them in others? I despise the respawns, though. Always have and always will.

Loyal as in feeling a commitment to BioWare?  No.

I have bought and enjoyed a lot of their games, though.  I expect they will continue putting out great games in the future.

As long as their games are good I'll keep buying.

Nope, I'm loyal fan of good games, I don't care what company makes them. Bioware just happens to make good games.

Loyal would mean, that I would not buy The Witcher 2 for example...
I am a fan of BioWare...and I keep buying BW games... but I am loyal only to my wife and my closest family :D

I'd consider myself a loyal Bioware fan and have been since Baldur's Gate. Back then, RPGs were a struggling genre because, after the success of Doom and Quake, every developer was making first person shooters. I was just so damned grateful that a new company was turning out a really nice, top down fantasy RPG, and I've had a soft spot for Bioware ever since.

Whilst I have my reservations about several aspects of DA2 (primarily, different choices leading to the same result and inexplicable behaviour of far too many characters and, secondarily, the wave combat and sky ninjas) overall I have found it very enjoyable. I was far more disappointed by Neverwinter Nights, which I found to be very tedious, especially after the wonderful party interaction of BGII. Admittedly, NWN was really a toolkit with a bit of a game bolted on, but using the toolkit didn't interest me.

Still, I think Bioware more than made up for it with KotOR, ME and Dragon Age, so I'm still hopeful that they will continue to produce good games for some time to come. Hopefully the devs will learn from the criticisms levelled against DA2 and make the next DA game even better (and hopefully, EA will give them the time and budget to do just that).

Honestly, I think that is a silly statement.  There are obviously degrees of loyalty.  One isn't going to die for a videogame company, but they might make every effort to support them; demonstrate a willingness to believe in the company despite its occasional mistake; stand by it in both thick AND thin, etc.  The people who decliared they'd never purchase another BW game after DA2 where obviously never loyal; while those who said "I didn't like this game, but that hardly means I'm going to denounce the company, and will defend the good things about it/Bioware even amidst my complaints" are.

I was mostly underwhelmed by the majority of ME and DA:O DLC, (though I loved Leliana's Song, simply because it let me play with Lily more) but did I say "I hate this material, and I hate Bioware for making it, I'll never buy from them again!"?  No, I said "Bioware is capable of better, and I will hold out faith that they can continue to produce quality material, I'm just not going to buy DLCs on blind faith".  Being loyal, and being "blindly loyal" are not the same thing.

No. You have to choose. Bioware or your family. The neglected one will be rounded up and shot.

I hope you, nonetheless, got a chance to pick up the game and try out the fan created mods; because you really would have been doing yourself a disservice not to.

(Me, I returned NWN the first time I bought it, because I hated the original Campaign ... but I bought it again a year later for access to the mods, and I have never regretted that choice)
