I let him live. My Hawke wasn't about to let him start this big mess then not follow through. He does not get to just give up after what he did.
I really whish there was a dialogue option for that, or at least sound a bit more pissed even though you're not killing him.

I killed him. My Hawke was a sarcastic, lucky-go-happy mage who took nothing seriously. Anders forced him into a situation where he had to choose sides. No matter who he chose, he figured justice would best be served with Anders death. Support the mages but kill the one responsible for the destruction of the Chantry.
I personally thought Elthina was too far out of touch with the hostility that she wasn't aware how volatile the situation in Kirkwall really was, and the Chantry is a symbol of oppression against mages and the lyrium addiction of the templars (the chantry controls all lyrium trade with Orzammar after all). But the Chantry also houses orphans and people just wanting a better life. Maybe hundreds of innocent people in that Chantry could have died, children, men and women, guilty and innocent, simple passerby's. Anders or Vengeance (as I'm calling him) kind of deserve it, regardless of relationships with Hawke.

I let him live the first play through as I was romancing him. Killed him on the second as I was romancing Sebastian and wanted to see what (if any) repercussions there was from the act, assuming there is any sort of continuation from this. I felt really, really bad doing it.

I cried for his mistake, but I did not kill him. I don't think I could have if I wanted to. What he did was wrong, but deep down I like to think he meant well. He just didn't know how to handle it, much like other mages turned to abominations this was his way of dealing with it I guess. Oh and I loved him... dearly... I believe in my story that Anders was truly sorry for what he did and never did anything so reckless again because he and Hawke ran away together and she watched over him XD

Thank you for all the great responses. It is great to see how many people are invested in this story and so interesting to listen to what you have to say. Please continue!
I'd also just like to say that all the Companion men are smoking hot - including Varric - and I wish they would give me the option to romance that dwarf.

My first Lady Hawke was very protective of her sister and when she got carted off to the Circle she became very invested in protecting mages from the templars, even if that constantly backfired with bloodmages trying to kill her.
That said, when Anders destroyed the chantry she was very angry with him. Her reaction to his pleas to be killed for what he did was met with, "You don't get to take the coward's way out. You started this and you're helping me finish it."
Now, my current Lady Hawke, I don't know how she'll react as she's trying to stay out of that mess.

i didn't and probably never will, killing him in the end isn't justice to me, his death won't right any wrongs, he's better off redeming himself by helping fix what he started. even if it means the prince guy brings an army on me. i kill him myself.

I didn't kill him because I needed a healer for the group :L perhaps a small amount of sentiment from Awakening, but he wasn't that chummy back then either.
