Funnily enough, most people I knew thought FFXIII was either mediocre or terrible. I think it's far from the worst game I've ever played, and it's not even the worst game in the series, but it definitely didn't leave much of a lasting impression with me. I've gotten involved in Mass Effect fandom in big ways since ME2; as for FFXIII, I haven't pulled it off my shelf since beating it.

Hopefully you'll get to off her by the end if you hate her so much. I like her. *shrug* But I'm guessing the finale will probably have several available live/die permutations involved.

I'd be inclined to say Lost Odyssey was the best JRPG of the generation... were it not for importing.

word!!!  and ditto about not playing ffxiii after beating it. i keep telling myself ill go back and max out the achievements...but im not thrilled in the slightest to do so.. so it sits collecting dust.

Dead Island better be the shiznit to regain my faith in Square Enix (looks like its gonna be a sandbox melee heavy Left 4 Dead...which i can live with)

I'd be up for an elcor squadmate. Though their boringness would actually be too funny to be uninteresting...if that makes any sense. Make him have elcor daddy issues so he'll fit in with like 10 other (potential) crew members too!

I really thought Jacob was OK, he just needed to have more than the military background to talk about and mission talk. Look into his past more. Maybe he lost a prize on a risky game show. Who knows?

People always dislike the normal characters. Kaidan and Jacob fit in those categories. I personally liked Kaidan from the start and the only squadmate from ME1 that I didn't like is Tali because she lacked persoanlity. (They corrected that in ME2.) I don't have a problem with Jacob but I don't think he's interesting either. It's one of those characters I'm indifferent about, kinda like that little droid in Kotor.

"normal" doesnt have to mean bland. they dont have to be nut cases to be interesting either. Jacob and Kaidan felt bland.

Sane people should have more sense than to deliberately insult someone that they know that their commanding officer trusts more than them.  Same with Garrus btw, when you suggest leaving someone with him on his recruitment, he says 'bad idea', excuse me?  Who's the commanding officer here again?  You chose to work for Cerberus, not me, I'm doing it only because I don't have a choice and the first thing you do is backtalk me?  Jacob may have meant that Shepard might need backup down there, but thats not what he said.  A sane person should be working his damndest to earn his commanders trust, not deliberately earning black marks against himself.

So the two people that Shepard trusts and has known for a good long while Garrus and Tali, Jacob decides to insult? Which is by extension I might add an insult to his commander, Shepard.  Very sane, I'm sure.

Jacob has a few black marks in my books.  My Shepard is profesional though and will keep Jacob alive, but he's in my bad books and any dirty jobs that come along, guess who's getting them?

Yeah, Ashley is "normal" and I found her more interesting and enjoyable than those two. Even the NPCs like Gabby and Ken are not bland like they are.

How can Jacob be interesting if he's Shepard minus 5 years give or take? Shepard isn't the elephant in the room when it comes to charisma. Jacob is pre-Spectre Paragon Shepard. He gets sh*t done, more than enough to keep him afloat as a character.

The thing that kills me about all this Jacob crap is that us Black folks FINALLY get a character in a game that isn't a stereotypical shucking and jiving fool and he gets so much hate for being normal. 
It pisses me off that a decent character may get thrown to the wayside because of a bunch of insecure players.

It's impossible. Jacob exceeded critical boredom. I'm still debating whether Kaidan was more boring. It's a tough decision.

I liked Jacob. I didn't take him on anything but his loyalty mission (once I could get Garrus and Mordin) and to see Ish (for tie-ins to the terrible Mass Effect Galaxy) though. He wasn't really interesting compared to the other characters, but I liked him. Certainly liked him more than Liara. I appreciated how he kept his head and he's one of the few characters you don't have to paragon interrupt to not shoot someone. Jacobs alright in my book and I wouldn't mind having him back on the team. At least I know he won't rip a hole in the ship if he gets mad.

I think he had a personality, but he's not as exciting as say an ex-STG member who created the Genophage, Space Batman, or a murderous psycho-biotic. So, perhaps I shouldn't have said "interesting" so much as "exciting."

Characters more boring or equally interesting as Jacob:

-Thane: insane ramblings put me to sleep
-Kasumi: zzz cliche "steal stuff for the fun of it" sexythief
-Non-LI tali: Not bad, just not more interesting than Jacob.
-Grunt: about as interesting as Jacob.

Jacob has very cool backstory. He used to be a Corsair, Alliance's version of Spectres. He had the potential to be interesting, but it was wasted with bland dialogue. I'm actually hoping BW 'spices him up' for ME3, give him a second chance.
