I started as a human noble and I'm in Ostagar, and he's still just "Dog." Did I miss it somehow? Maybe a glitch?
When do you get to name your dog?

HNs should get the naming when picking up the dog in the castle larder.

If his name is still Dog that means you might have left it blank and accidentally hit enter.

Dang it. I wonder if hitting the escape key does the same thing. I tried going through the larder deal twice and didn't get a prompt to enter his name. But maybe I missed it because I was rushing through the dialogue.

You don't name him THROUGH the larder. You name him after talking to him, but a screen-shot away from when the rats show up.

OK something is really wrong. I've started yet another game and didn't skip through any dialogue. When I "meet" my dog there is a brief pause before the dialogue that includes "You're a smart boy" and all that. But then the rats come out. It's like that pause should be where the naming option comes up, but it doesn't.
Ever hear of this problem? Could it be some kind of mod-related glitch?

Yes, the escape button would have done the same thing. And yes i "think" that pause is where it happens.
No big deal really, a BAD glitch is like when Dex doesnt add damage to daggers or that redcliffe glitch where no matter what you do the codex always says you forced ******* to sacrifice, to save the kid.

Well yea it doesn't break the game, but naming the hound is one of those simple pleasures
I actually did a total reinstall. My mod files were a mess and I couldn't remember what any of the files in the override folders were from or what they did. So hopefully no more issues.

There actually is a mod out there that causes the dog-naming popup not to popup. However, I can't for the life of me remember which one it is as I uninstalled it a while ago.
However you can edit your savegame to change the dog's name. There's a thread @ http://social.biowar.../index/430937/1 on how to do it.

Try not to rush through dialogue as you never know what you'll miss (might be info vital to a quest), or you may end up picking a "bad" dialogue option by mistake. Saving often also helps, as you can just reload if something undesired happens.
You do get the naming option just after the "good boy" line, but before fighting the rats.

When you recruit is as companion?
If u still havent got that appear you have a glitch caused by a mod.

I have the same problem. I didn't used to and I don't have many mods but one of them must be the culprit.
