I admit that I'm a bit anal-retentive when I play this game... I tend to want to get every possible journal entry out there... I just think they add to the story (its like taking notes when you played AD&D). You can tell the thought that's gone into the game with some of the journal entries you only get when charming folks you encounter, etc. Was wondering what some people's favs were.

Here's one you get when you charm the Flaming Fist Mercenary that's attacking Viconia. You have to initate dialogue, then charm and talk to him

"When I charmed a member of the Flaming Fist, he explained that his unit was hunting after a drow elf who had mudered a family."

Some things are funny. Emerson claims not to know what's in the mines but when you charm him and talk to him, he tells you pretty much straight out its Kobolds.

Charming Centeol in the Cloak Wood is cool... she talks about Jon Irenicus from game #2 (though its mispelled and she doesn't leave an actual journal entry). Image IPB

That is really curious.  I like reading the journal because it often gives a slightly different twist on the interactions with quest givers.  Often times, especially the first few times I played through the game, I could not figure out what I was supposed to do for some of the quests.  But I never realized that charmed characters could give information like that.  I think the game's manual recommended not charming people you did not want to kill because they might "forget" things they knew before the charming, or something like that, so I never used charm that way.  I really should play through the game again with more attention to detail, like using charm on non-hostiles, using know alignment in certain situations, etc.  It is hard to treat a comptuer game more like real life or PnP games.

There's a halfling in Gullykin, for example, who'll give you a Sling +1 if charmed, I think.

Wow that is extremely cool. I had no idea you could charm and get different information out of people.

You can also charm your party members and find out more about them (if they're not currently in your party).

I charmed Faldorn and she admitted outright that she was a Shadow Druid. :P

By the way, has anyone tried charming Albert? The "little boy" who asks you to find his "dog"? It would be cool if he reveals his true identity while charmed.

Considering what the little boy his, he'd prolly resist it.
