EA is already planning to release their biggest game of the year: BATTLEFIELD 3. Just look at the current hype that EA is trying to build up.
Having another shooter combined with ANOTHER heavyweight like Skyrim makes the delay sensible.

Unfortunately, I was planning on doing having one of my last days at work be the midnight launch of ME3, and doing a special launch by buying ice cream and toppings and maybe making waffle cones (I might need to renew my food handlers license, but no biggie), and give out some replicas if I managed to make them by then. Now I won't be able to do that, because I'll have my new job by then. Oh well. :-/

I hope EA didn't have a hand in this to make it more mainstream(their words).

The Old Republic was supposed to release around the same time as Mass Effect 3. Old Republic is a much bigger game than Battlefield 3 in terms of money and time invested.

I can't speak for the fanbase, but yes, it shocked me. You may or may not agree with some of the design decisions, but it's completely clear the game was rushed and several aspects of it suffered greatly as a result. Apparently ME3 will be spared that fate, and for that I'm immensely happy.Bachmors wrote...
Edit: Funny how everyone seems to be relieved by the delay ... it seems DA2 really shocked the Bioware fanbase
Well thanks God for the delay. Almost everybody is happy for the delay on this thread because we all have DA2s debacle fresh on mind, so we feel very relieved by this news. It can only give them more time to polish and get it right.
I'm glad they've soaked in DA2s lesson and have reacted accordingly. The negative feedback on DA2 is simply staggering and widespread. BioWare really jeopardised their well-deserved dev name releasing such an unpolished and clearlly rushed game.
They can take all the time they need until they get ME3 right. It has to rock.

When asked about the (ME3) delay, EA boss John Riccitiello said, "Essentially, step by step, [BioWare is] adjusting some of the gameplay mechanics and some of the features that you'll see at E3 that can put this into a genre equivalent of shooter-meets-RPG, and essentially address a far larger market opportunity than Mass Effect 1 did and Mass Effect 2 began to approach."
Hello Dragon Mass Effect.

Outch....Usually it doesn't end well when game design is driven by the market. It just leads to over streamlined products that are accessable by everyone but are ultimately boring.

Im gettin tired and to old to be waiting on game these days it take companys now days damn near a lifetime to push a game out and its retarded.
Apparently you are not that old then. Specially big name titles get very little dev time compared to like 10 years ago, to make the quick buck with their names alone *cough*DA2*cough*

Hello Dragon Mass Effect.
No, that's how Riccitello is spinning the delay. That's a bunch or soothing-to-investors PR-ese that's so vague as to be practically meaningless.

Good luck convincing people that the sky isn't falling. There have been countless threads today of people complaining that that single statement is the downfall of Mass Effect. If the game released on schedule, people would complain. If it gets pushed back, people complain. There's really no way to win this.
Granted, people are a little sore after DA2 but we shouldn't jump to conclusions this early in the game.

I really wanted to play Mass Effect 3 at the end of the year but i think 1-3 more months wont hurt... I guess Battlefield 3, Guild Wars 2 and maybe The Old Republic will do for the time being.

So basically dude said "Bioware is going to further tweak their game so that i will be a sick shooter/rpg."

Because he said "larger market opportunity". Of course, this was a statement made at an investor conference, so that type of handwavey PR language is more or less required.
