This is why its being delayed: "to address a larger market opportunity"
When asked about the (ME3) delay, EA boss John Riccitiello said, "Essentially, step by step, [BioWare is] adjusting some of the gameplay mechanics and some of the features that you'll see at E3 that can put this into a genre equivalent of shooter-meets-RPG, and essentially address a far larger market opportunity than Mass Effect 1 did and Mass Effect 2 began to approach."
Hello Dragon Mass Effect.
No, that's how Riccitello is spinning the delay. That's a bunch or soothing-to-investors PR-ese that's so vague as to be practically meaningless.
do you not understand that EA has investors and shareholders they must answer to. If they want Mass Effect 3 to appeal to a wider audience and that will make it sell more. then guess what then EA will make it happen .

Because he said "larger market opportunity". Of course, this was a statement made at an investor conference, so that type of handwavey PR language is more or less required.
Sounds like PR 3:16.

OK this is how Man-Giraffe-Dog came to be:

While growing up it was spotted in the wild (but the team was all killed by it and the photos were recovered afterwards)

After which it began its infiltration of humanity, disguised as Giraffe-Dog:

Which leaves us here. Man-Giraffe-Dog is poised to attack and destroy humanity and I'm trying to warn everyone before it's too late. This is totally serial guys. You need to prepare.

Investors want EVERYTHING to appeal to a wider audience. Hence, statements like these, which are a dime a dozen. And they're all as vague and content-free as possible, and they always avoid being even remotely specific.

P.S DA2 was way better than ME2
in DA2 the Story made sense the Characters actually developed
Hawke's brother for instance is going a long way from Ferelden to warden
Not to mentioned that you could flirt with whom you wanted without it being a one way track to bed
(My hawke had Isabell as lover and Meryll as LI just because it was possible and flirted with Fenris and Anders a bit)
and no endless calibrations [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/devil.png[/smilie]

Everything seems to point in the same direction, DA2 went and that is not a good sign. Bioware should try to get rid of EA as soon as possible or it will be closed in five years, after it's franchises are burn out.

Oh well. The game is already shaping up to be amazing, a few mechanics changes (if that's even what the delay truly is for) won't stop the freight train of awesome. And after all of the very negative feedback about DA2, I highly doubt they will even wink in that direction.
Don't worry so much. ME2 broke records. ME3 will break your face.

I'm also getting the feeling we're going to end up with Gears of Mass Effect.
Ah well, I always thought this game was probably going to be a renter. Now I know for certain.
Guess this'll be the second ever Bioware game that I won't be buying. ( The first being DA2 )

So, they want to make it even more casual and that's why we have to wait longer?

OK, I've said before and I'll say it again: how in the hell was Dragon Age 2's attempt to draw in the more casual crowd the reason why it sucked? That game failed due to poor game design (you know, repetitive dungeons, empty enviornments, an uninteressting plot, bugs up
the whazoo, loadings everywhere, boring and repetitive combat... ) that don't appeal to anyone. I think even the non-hardcore crowd still enjoys a good game before anything else, don't they? So would you mind explaining to me how in the hell its their fault that the game was rushed out the door?

Yeah, we've been getting that kind of statement even before ME1 was out. It's a game with a over-the-shoulder perspective and a cover system, the Gears of War comparisson got old 4 years ago. Please move on.

and i guess you're still a tool... a sub-2-year turnaround was always going to be a big ask for a game as complicated as ME3 undoubtedly will be.
