 Call me cynical but I have the sneaking suspicion this has to do with sales more than development time. Bioware has stated over and over again that Star Wars: The Old Republic will be out in 2011. From all I've read and what has and hasn't been completed with that game, it will be out in Quarter 3 of their fiscal year (September-December). Bioware's probably not looking to compete with itself by putting out 2 games of the same genre in the same quarter. (And yes SW:TOR is an MMO. I know. But they are definitely marketing it to their longtime fans of single player games) So to make good on the promise of a 2011 release for SW:TOR, ME3 had to get bumped to the next quarter. Again: this is just my logical speculation. No proof.

Wait a minute... Just realized this is probably a good thing for EVERYONE. There were far too many AAA games being released near the same time as each other. For example now I don't have to choose between ME3, Skyrim. Saints Row 3, Arkham city, etc. I can grab skyrim, make it last for a few months, then pick up ME3.

It can also be both. That is, for marketing and development purposes. "Holiday 2011" always seemed a bit too soon anyway.

its a smart move. not only does it allow plenty more development time. but it avoids being out at the same time as skyrim which it would have directly competed for sales with.

you serious ? looks just like kaiden to me. Odd too sense I couldn't recognize anderson or ashley at all. Untill I read that it was them.

Love it. That pic is mouth watering good, give that art department my praise. Looks fantastic beyond my wildest expectations. This will be the best game ever not that you have any thing to compete with but yourselves. Love it.

The architecture and the landscapes of Mass Effect is what takes a **** on all the competition. I don't want to give away your secrets but your enviorments make your games better than we could have imagined.

Mass Effect has to have the best concept guys in the industry. Rest assured the people that know how hard it is to concept great looking envoironments really love the work.

If you take it up another notch it will destroy all the big name Sci-fi landscapes. I could live in Mass Effect and never want to leave. 10/10.

Nice move Bioware, both benefitting the game (more polish) and it's sales (going up against Skyrim, Battlefield 3, CoD, Uncharted 3, ToR, etc., or just maybe Bioshock Infinite?) Also especially convenient for me, money wise.

Oh, and the first screenshot is incredible.

Excellent decision Bioware... though I obviously wanted it sooner rather than later, I always approve of giving you guys more time to make it exactly how you want it, without an externally imposed development cycle timeline... excellent! just keep us appeased with little bits of info, like the class videos from ME2 or some squad reveals, not all, but some

Even if it is, so what? They aren't going to stop working on the game with the extra time so whether it's because of wanting to polish it more or because they want to get it out of the way of The Old Republic, it makes no difference.

You could've done that even if it was still coming out on the same date. People act like they have to have every game on the release date or else it'll disappear.

I wonder if that architecture was inspired by the work of Santiago Calatrava. It is truly breathtaking.

edit: They should just come out and say that the game is coming out in January, though.  We already know that's the target month.
