Okay, I'm a guy and I'm straight, but I am so happy that my favorite FemShep gets an unbelievably HOT "Tony Almeida"-Kaidan (hmmm...almost similar sounding names) back in ME3.

Agreed. The first best part of this announcement is that they're taking time to get the game done right.
The second best part is that Kaidan finally made it into the promo materials, got acknowledged, and looks FANTASTIC.
I just had to play around with that screenshot to get him back together with femshep.

Last time someone from Bioware said that, we got Dragon Age 2.
And while Dragon Age was a really solid (even excellent) game, Dragon Age 2 ended up being really forgettable (and I'm being generous).
Really bad bad news.

I really hope this isn't another DA2 saying they are making it appeal to a wider audience.
PLEASE take more time PLEASE don't make it like DA2!

Interesting, thanks for the link.
I am a bit taken aback by this:
This effort, he said, would put the game in a genre that was "equivalent to shooter-meets-RPG."
Not that this sounds either good or bad. Just, didn't Bioware already make that move with ME2's changes?

Not everything needs to Call of Duty. Just because one thing is a massive success doesn't mean you have to make everything that comes after an imitation. It's like making everything 3D because Avatar was 'so awesome!'

I'm pretty sure you won't find too many on this forum complaining that Mass Effect is not enough like the Wal Mart of video games CoD.....

So basically, they said they want to 'broaden' the RPG aspects of the game, and now they want to tweak it so it can appeal to a wider market?
I still trust BioWare will make ME3 a worthy experience, I just don't want it to turn out like DA2 did.

Well...
John Riccitello said...
"We're huge believers in the IP and are purposefully shifting it to address a larger market opportunity."
To me, this statement is more about postponing the release of ME3 to give it its own release slot, as opposed to broadening the appeal. Riccitello was also talking to a group of EA investors, not necessarily gamers so they will obviously want to know more about the financial side of things with upcoming releases.
So the meaning of "larger market opportunity" would be "we're delaying ME3 until Q1 2012 due to a more open release schedule and therefore a greater opportunity for increased direct sales", as opposed to changing the features of the game from a gameplay/experience standpoint.
As others have already pointed out - the last quarter of 2011 is pretty packed already with AAA games especially Bethesda's Skyrim being the main competitor for sales with ME3. Regardless, I think this is a good move by EA and Bioware, I just hope that changing the release strategy is the reason behind the delay and not gameplay wise...

As bad as I want more Mass Effect, I think this is a good move. I think everyone at Bioware learned their lesson with Dragon Age 2. While it was a good game, it is quite obvious it was rushed, as evidenced by the same caves and underground dwellings over and over again as well as a few plot and continuity issues. As long as they are dedicating this to making this the Muhamed Ali of video games, as in "The Greatest of all Time!!!" I got no problem waiting.
i agree completely it's good to se that bioware and ea took notice of all the bad feedback from da2 and pushed me3 back to finnish it properly.
