Okay, I'm a guy and I'm straight, but I am so happy that my favorite FemShep gets an unbelievably HOT "Tony Almeida"-Kaidan (hmmm...almost similar sounding names) back in ME3.

A little grey hair fits him very well, well done!

Shepard : Are you going to release Mass Effect 3 in 2011?

Bioware : Can it wait? we are in the middle of some calibrations.

Agreed. The first best part of this announcement is that they're taking time to get the game done right.

The second best part is that Kaidan finally made it into the promo materials, got acknowledged, and looks FANTASTIC.

I just had to play around with that screenshot to get him back together with femshep.

Not everything needs to Call of Duty. Just because one thing is a massive success doesn't mean you have to make everything that comes after an imitation. It's like making everything 3D because Avatar was 'so awesome!'

You want to make a ton of money? Create your own innovation. Stop trying to copy everyone else's work EA!

yoshibb this is a EA politics to buy a very popular and good mark then produce a crap on this license and sell it. Fans will buy crap because this is their favorite mark and EA will be happy because they will get what they want (lots of money). I will not be disapointed if ME3 will be also crap but also I belive in Bioware and that they will not listen what EA exactly want.

Sorry for lots of repeated words.

Last time someone from Bioware said that, we got Dragon Age 2.

And while Dragon Age was a really solid (even excellent) game, Dragon Age 2 ended up being really forgettable (and I'm being generous).

Really bad bad news.

Anyway, I'll quote our favourite lead gameplay designer, Christina Norman:

So about the me3 release date, don't be grumpy, we are just adding more awesome <3 You like awesome, right?

:wizard:

Edit: formatting

 Good Grief Christina has been hanging around DA2 Mike, so does that mean that ME3 will also get a button Awesome option <_<

I think it's GREAT that they are taking more time.

I really hope this isn't another DA2 saying they are making it appeal to a wider audience.

PLEASE take more time PLEASE don't make it like DA2!

Well, more time can't hurt. I'm pleased with that. Mass Effect has never been like DA really. I like DA fine, but it's never been on quite the same level as ME. They're going to pull all the stops for the third and final installment. Just from the things they've said, about the scope of this game and how there won't be another like it, you know that they're going to go all out for it. I can't wait - a few extra months of polishing and making it awesome doesn't bother me a bit.

Always glad to hear that an anticipated game can get more polish. Looking forward to ME3 next year.

Interesting, thanks for the link.

I am a bit taken aback by this:

This effort, he said, would put the game in a genre that was "equivalent to shooter-meets-RPG."

Not that this sounds either good or bad. Just, didn't Bioware already make that move with ME2's changes?

Bioware thank you for delaying the game i was worried that it was going to come out too soon and ruin everything.

I'm fine with the release date getting pushed back a bit. I'd rather wait a whole nother year and have an amazing game, than have it rushed to meet the release date.

There's already a lot of cool stuff planned for years end like Skyrim, Uncharted 3, and another AC game. That should be enough to tie a lot of us over. Seeing some footage of ME 3 at E3 would be nice.

I'm pretty sure you won't find too many on this forum complaining that Mass Effect is not enough like the Wal Mart of video games CoD.....

i think with a big game such as mass effect coming out, they need time no one should be getting mad cause of delay its a good things, bioware is making mass effect, star wars (which also looks giant game) and i saw something about another dragon ages or dragon legends, 3 top notch games and with that comes time, i would like it to be out as soon as possible since i love the series but not if it is gonna affect the gameplay badly, and you can see a few other rpg games and they looked rushed and quests are repetitive with traveling being ridiculous
gotta give it to bioware for explaining and trying the best they can, i have played couple games of theirs from original knights of the old republic (fantastic game) to now now excluding dragon age
keep up good work bioware :)

So basically, they said they want to 'broaden' the RPG aspects of the game, and now they want to tweak it so it can appeal to a wider market?
 :crying:
I still trust BioWare will make ME3 a worthy experience, I just don't want it to turn out like DA2 did.

Maybe stupid question. Is EA behind this?

As bad as I want more Mass Effect, I think this is a good move. I think everyone at Bioware learned their lesson with Dragon Age 2. While it was a good game, it is quite obvious it was rushed, as evidenced by the same caves and underground dwellings over and over again as well as a few plot and continuity issues. As long as they are dedicating this to making this the Muhamed Ali of video games, as in "The Greatest of all Time!!!" I got no problem waiting.

Well...

John Riccitello said...

"We're huge believers in the IP and are purposefully shifting it to address a larger market opportunity."

To me, this statement is more about postponing the release of ME3 to give it its own release slot, as opposed to broadening the appeal. Riccitello was also talking to a group of EA investors, not necessarily gamers so they will obviously want to know more about the financial side of things with upcoming releases.

So the meaning of "larger market opportunity" would be "we're delaying ME3 until Q1 2012 due to a more open release schedule and therefore a greater opportunity for increased direct sales", as opposed to changing the features of the game from a gameplay/experience standpoint.

As others have already pointed out - the last quarter of 2011 is pretty packed already with AAA games especially Bethesda's Skyrim being the main competitor for sales with ME3. Regardless, I think this is a good move by EA and Bioware, I just hope that changing the release strategy is the reason behind the delay and not gameplay wise...

i agree completely it's good to se that bioware and ea took notice of all the bad feedback from da2 and pushed me3 back to finnish it properly.

Jesus Kaidan looks good. I'm a little confused on the wider market thing though. Wasn't that what ME2 was for? I thought they appealed just fine to the less-rpg-loving crowd. I was really excited when we heard that they were adding more rpg elements, but so far all we have is the gun mods, right?
