Why do people hate ME1's elevators yet are completely fine watching a loading screen of an elevator?

You missed all the threads b*tching about the loading screens, didn't you?

Personally, I'm an advocate of more squad banter and shorter load times, but elevators aren't necessary for either.

Well, it's partly a matter of misunderstanding.

But I think we can all agree that the SR1 elevator took far too long and was likely the one used the most.

The Citadel had the Transit Hubs. Personally I liked the elevators in ME1 but also enjoyed some of the ME2 loading screens.

I'd like to see both in ME3 when appropriate.

This. I loved the elevators for the banter. However the elevators often lasted far longer than the banter did, and you were not guaranteed any banter.

Exactly.

It kind of reminds me how the ads on YouTube and other streaming services have the countdown to the end of the commercial, that somehow seems to make it WORSE. Watching the counter tick down kind of reminds me of the feeling of the ME1 lifts.

I don't care either way. It was cool hearing the squad say one liners and hearing news stories on the elevators except for the fact that they said something in the first five seconds and then we had to wait another 10 in silence.

I prefer the elevators to the loading screens, but not by a very long shot. Though the banter did give them an edge that the loading screens could never replicate.

Another one of ME1's "great idea, bad execution"-s.

I wish there were a good way to have them let us read the codex or something during loading screens. I never got around to reading half of ME2's codex, and I had to start having a second computer open to get me through those damnable screens.

I'd rather watch the loading screen than listen to the droll that comes out of alenko's mouth.

Actually there has been a lot of complaints about the loading screens too.
Personally loading screens are shorter (or they are for me anyway) and while the banter in ME1 was good, you usually just got repeats of the same dam news report. That combined with the music just made them annoying to me. I wouldn’t be opposed to elevators returning if they did it better.

"Droll: having a humorous or whimsical quality"

Not sure that's what you were going for...

Anyway, I don't care whether it's loading screens or elevators: the games need more team interaction.

Well I am actually one of those who prefer loading screens. True, elevators had squad banter (big plus) but a lot of the rides were far too long and some locations had far too many elevators (peak 15).

That's because people hating the elevators usually didn't find out that those were actually loading screens.

Man, I *liked* the elevators in the first game. I thought they were an interesting way to hide loading screens, I liked imagining the distances that I was covering in them, etc. I really loved the elevator going down into the C-Sec wards -- the wall turned to glass at the top of the room and you could look over the whole area on the way down. I liked that.

Squad banter, radio news, all were good things that helped pass the elevator time, and I think their solution should have been to add more stuff to listen to in the elevators than to replace them with loading screens showing the elevator movement.

I think the problem with the elevators is that because your still looking at your character it frustrates people that they can't control them since they are immovable at these points. Whereas with the cutscenes we know what we're getting as loading times have existed for awhile and for that moment we can zone out.

I'm fine with being in a lift so long as I can hear companion banter again. That was sadly missing in ME2. I was hoping for Grunt to do a Wrex-style 'So who would win in a fight between you and Shepard...?'

DA:O caliber banter would be too too awesome....in and out of elevators i mean.
