Why do people hate ME1's elevators yet are completely fine watching a loading screen of an elevator?

Here's why:

ME1's elevators were like 2 minutes long. ME2's loading screens are 10 sec max

The elevators were laoding screens in disguise and took 30 seconds and sometimes longer, while the loading screens from ME2 are only five seconds.

And even after everything was loaded we still had to wait for the elevator to physically arrive at the C-Sec academy which was a complete waste of time. Let's also not forget that Mass Effect 1 did have loading screens.

But I think we can all agree that the SR1 elevator took far too long and was likely the one used the most.

That was only about five seconds long. If "we all" agree that this is too long, we have to learn to be more patient.

Why not just make elevators that are as long as the current loading screens then.

You act like it's the screens that make it faster, no, they got better at working with the engine.

I'm not against loading screens in disguise, by the way. If you arrive at a planet they could load it in the background while you walk towards the airlock and then you get a "decontamination in progress". But the thing about loading screens in disguise is to give an illusion that everything is loading quickly. The elevators didn't do that at all.

Is there a difference in time from PC to 360? I haven't taken a stop watch to it.

But I'll restate, I liked the elevators in ME1, and would like to seem the return in ME3.

Are you guys playing the same ME2 that I'm playing? On average the loading screens have me waiting for the better part of two minutes. The only one that finishes reasonably quick is the one from any deck on the Normandy to Sheps quarters. Infact I can say with complete certainty that I have spent more time staring at loading screens in 2 ME2 playthroughs than time in elevators over the course of 5 ME1 playthroughs.

Are you playing on a PC?

You need an upgrade.

Never had a problem with the elevators. I liked the cool party banter

I see you're on PC. There's a bug in the Unreal engine that slows things down on some systems with multicore processors. Here's what to do:

Alt/Tab out of the game. Ctrl+Alt+Delete to access task manager. Right click on masseffect2.exe. Set affinity only to the first core (uncheck the others). Select ok. Right click again and set affinity to all cores.

Now, your loadings are 10x faster.

Although the banter is great in the elevator, I prefer the loading screens as a better computer will reduce loading screen time but not elevator rides.

Another one of ME1's "great idea, bad execution"-s.

And one of ME3's hopefully fixed realizations.

Elevators > Loading Screens

I actually really liked elevators in Mass Effect and I never thought they were too long. The elevators in Arrival were good though, I wouldn't mind seeing ones that go that fast on the Normandy.

My loading screens were always around 30 secs to a minute on my xbox, the elevators usually pulled in a 5-10 sec.

Or download MassAffinity which does all of that automatically. I use MassAffinity as my ME2 shortcut.

When I use the Normandy elevator, I get a "Loading" label in the middle of the screen (which is freezed for a couple seconds). Isn't having a seamless loading elevator kinda pointless then?

About loading time, I agree with Phaedon, ME2 loads everything really fast. For some reason it's even faster than ME1!

Because...

A) Loading screens are shorter.

and

B) Texture pop-in was annoying.

You know, I truly find it hilarious when people complain that a thirty second load time is too long these days. I remember when that was the norm.

Everything is about instant gratification these days.

It's a shame.

I'm not even old, what the hell.

This.

I do prefer the elevators to the loading screen and Bioware need to add in the Normandy airlock sequence again because it was so awesome.  I really didn't understand why after every mission you ended up in space again and had to re-dock/land again to go anywhere.  you should leave the station/planet like you did in ME1.
