hello,

as the title says, in their newest report EA states that Dragon Age 2 along with other titles has sold in more than 2million copies. (and that data should just include data until march 31st)
EA shipped seven titles in the fourth quarter that have already sold in over 1 million units each, life to date. Crysis2, Dragon Age 2 and Dead Space 2 each sold [in] more than two million units.
files.shareholder.com/downloads/ERTS/1242378359x0x464980/27422149-8551-4437-b843-7ff72e381473/Q4%20FY%20Press%20Release%20with%20Press%20Tables.pdf

interestingly EA seems to have had a good quarter but still generated a loss over the whole year, but less than in the last fiscal year.

no own opinion here, just bringing the news.

I have an opinion. It's called "preorders from DA:O fans".

I have an opinion, too.  It's called "loss of preorders from people who never made it past Ostagar."

Too bad neither of us can quantify our opinions, though.

I wish this forum wouldn't talk about how well or badly DA2 is selling for just one day.

Just read the same. I guess that result destroy at least two things. Metacritic scores matter less then I expected nor the lack of quality in Bioware games would have big impact on sales.

I guess fanbois won this one. I even lost a bet againt my friend. I only expected 1,5 million units and he got 2 million units correctly. Now I have to buy him a copy of Mass Effect 3... and no, despite I lost a bet, I don't hope it's a bad as Dragon age 2 :D

Except yours make no freaking sense. Why would anyone preorder DA2 without having played the 1st, THEN decides to play the first one, can't get past Ostagar (can't tell why, guess they wear helmets and make macaroni art in school?) then cancel their preorder of DA2 even though all sources indicate that the game will be more action-oriented?

I think I get it, you could just say ''loss of sales due to mentally challenged individuals''.

Sorry, but what you said is just really... Stupid... You misinterpretted the whole thing.

My cousin quit playing at Ostagar. It wasn't his type of game. Therefore, he didn't go researching the sequel.

And no, he isn't mentally challenged

They're "sold in" numbers. They dont say anything really. Same thing as saying shipped. Customers did not purchase 2 million copies of DA2.

I returned my pre-order back to Amazon...do they still count that as a sale?

This. Like, a billion times over. Posted Image Play it or don't play it, but nagging on the sales is just pointless and needlessly anatagonistic.

I would hope metacritic scores don't matter that much. It's far too easy to rate a game too high or too low anonymously.  Plus, I hope people are able to make their own opinions without relying on review scores from nameless and faceless individuals.

Mr.  Bananagrabber, what you've just said is one of the most...

Oh forget it it, it's just too easy.

There are two basic uinits of measure, shipped which is how many the publiser send out and sold , which is what the consumer buys off the shelf.

EA could well have shipped 2 million but that does not mean people have bought 2 million.

Because the terms are often changed, or even labeled differently like "moved" of "sold through" it can get very confusing.

For example in PSM3 ME is credited with selling 7 million as a series. Yet you often see people tossing around figures that ME2 has sold 7 million.

How do you know?
OVER 2 million shipped could mean 1.8 million have been sold, it could mean 1.9 have been sold, but it could also mean 2 million have been sold. Or 2.5 million.

^This.

Its not like they're saying DA2 has sold more to date than Origins, like they're saying how cumulative sales of Dead Space 2 are currently 40% higher than sales of the original Dead Space game over a comparable period.

Listening to the conference, it seems they'll be pushing DLC even more than ever and are putting a greater emphasis on games meeting their ship dates.

Far, far more people loved Origins than didn't, and you know it. And you also know that the majority of people were at very least disappointed with Dragon Age 2, even if they didn't downright hate it. If you're telling yourself otherwise, you're deluding yourself.

I don't understand what you are trying to say. Perhaps you have misunderstood Rebecca. What he/she/it means is that SOLD and SHIPPED are frequently used alternatively to hide the fact how many units were actually BOUGHT. For example: EA might have SHIPPED 2 million + copies to vendors. But that does not guarantee 2M copies bought by consumers. In fact I not certain how the 2M mark could be reached so early. It took DA2 ~2 weeks to reach SOLD(shipped??) 1M mark, of which the steam component was <105K. So that would mean a lot of pre-orders for signature editions. Also, DA2 has seriously fallen in rank from bestseller list of Amazon and other vendors, so much so that Amazon was offering ~60% discount on DA2 in easter. This means that DA2 is not selling as well as they might want you to believe.

Two million copies shipped or stocked, not two million copies sold.

Though when they start giving away incentive games (*cough* Mass Effect 2 *cough*) and slash the price by half or more even numbers 'sold' stop mattering. Hell, why don't they start selling Dragon Age 2 out of gumball machines for a quarter? Or package it with Happy Meals? Then they can say that DA2 sold -ten- million copies.

according to the link DA 2 sold more than 2 million copies "Crysis 2, Dragon Age 2, and Dead Space 2 each sold in more than 2 million units."

Far more people vocal on these forums loved Origins? I'll agree to that, at least from what I've been able to observe here.

Far more poeple out of 3+ million, loved it? It would be asbsurd to believe that I absolutely knew (or could even realistically observe) the answer to that.

Either way they fling the numbers around, DA2 will not outsell DA:O. Which is bad news for a supposed 'sequel'. Usually sequels are supposed to outsell the first one. ME2 outsold ME1.

just sayin'
