So I've spent the last 2 days trying to get this up and running, I bought the game like an idiot wit out making sure it would work. I am on a Mac Book Pro, I am attempting to use VirtualBox to play ME2, I spent 1 day trying to expaind finally figured that out so i have 15 free gigs at the moment for the game. I downloaded and installed it, I can open it and when i hit play it has this message that says "Direct3D is not available because the computer is locked. Keep retrying?" I have absolutely no idea what that even means. I tried updating the drives on both sides of my OS but I cant seem to figure out what this means. I'm 100% sure it IS possible to play ME2 on a Virtual machine, I've seen a few posts on here about it but all of them were using BootCamp. Do I really need to get bootcamp to get this to work? If anyone has any ideas or suggestions on what is going on or how to help/fix this please let me know. This is the information i got from the System configurations. Hope this is helpful, I can add more information if I'm missing something. Thanks for anyone who can help in advance I super appreciate it.

Direct3D is part of DirectX, the graphics API used by Windows. DirectX requires a compatible graphics chip to work. VirtualBox appears to use a virtualized graphics adapter rather than an actual graphics chip, so no, you won't be able to run Mass Effect 2 on it. If you want a surefire way to play ME2 on your Mac with no problems, then yes, you will need to install Windows with Bootcamp.

You can transfer the save files onto a jump drive. The saves are located in My Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect\\Save.

I'm just posting this because no one else mentioned it, and someone may happen by.
I believe that there is a Macintosh version of Mass Effect and/or Mass Effect 2. In theory at least, there really should no need to use the Windows PC version.

If there is, the Web Wonks who put this site together weren't told that it existed, because there is no forum for it. It's built on the UT3 gaming engine, which AFAIK, is PC, PS3, and Xbox360, but not Mac anything.
Generally speaking, any emulation to run recently released high intensity 3D games must be used on hardware that the individual game basically could have run on with the correct OS, although there is a penalty of 15-20% of performance overhead compared with using Windows. The older the game, the more successfully its requirements can be emulated.
