@CGG, I loved your love triangle write up on your blog. I have a whole, long Shepard rationale, too. It usually ends in "Eh, Kaidan, you were nice and all, but I've been secretly harboring this love for Turians and am just now able to show it." Ok, so maybe it's not that simplistic, but it is part of it.

becasue all men must Loooove treesomes... all men take relationships lightly even after they say that they DOn't take relationships lightely.. all men think with their privates and not with their minds, all men think that the more the merrier... oh wait.
@ CGG - awesome analysis as always, though for some, the choice is a lot easier the others... depending on a person.
personaly, I never had any trouble chosing between Morelli and Ranger, even while Stephanie Plum keeps bouncing between the two, unable to make up her minds

I've said it before, in some format... it's hard for Jane, because she's pretty much the exacty hybrid between the two personalities. She loves almost foolishly, to the point where it could cause her to be incautious, so Kaidan's caution and distance on Horizon deflated her a bit. But she didn't think it through, didn't realize it wasn't because he loved her less than she loved him. It was just his nature. And chucking him because he's learned to put aside his emotions and do the reasonable thing, for someone who is completely reckless? Well Jane's sacrificed things she wants for the good of the galaxy before, too. So she can undrestand that, once she thinks about it.
I've been looking at ME1 stuff again, and god damn does that boy love that girl. Based on all the press that's come out lately, I'm definitely splitting a Jane off for him, somewhere midway through that primary playthrough. No, I can understand why that choice would be easy. What he did, what he said wasn't so bad, and it doesn't mean he loves her less. I keep thinking back to that line from the song "If my silence made you leave, well that would be my worst mistake." I see him thinking that between Horizon and whenever they meet again... and if she has moved on, then exactly what he was afraid of will have happened. I hate to do that.
I can see how it would be easy to choose that kind of devotion over the awkwardness and impulsivity of the Garrus romance. I went into things fully meaning to make that decision, and got stuck. You know that, though. I'm not sure how to view my cannon. In some ways, firstplaythrough! Jane has to be one of my cannons, just because she went through all of this without the benefit of hindsight. I'm still very curious to see how the options will play out, whether a non-loyal Shepard will even have the option to reunite, and whether it's actually better if she doesn't.
I haven't read Stephanie Plum, but right now my favorite comic has an epic love triangle going on, and I am a rabid fangirl for one of the possibilities (He mourned the loss of a girl he only knew for a few days... because she was the first person he ever met who matched him intellectually? Did you read my goddamn diary?) and I don't care at all for the other. In that one, I'm trying to make myself sort of start liking the other one, in case I'm wrong and my favorite doesn't end up with the main character. It's hard though. If the two I like end up together, it will be pretty much the only time where a love triangle in something I'm a fan of ends up the way I want.

and speaking of fictional love triangles - I think this particular one is the one you might enjoy (and it fits the topic as well as your dilemma)
we still don't know how they handle romantic relationships and their conflicts in ME3. I'm hoping for the best and preparing for the worst :/ especially since my very own lone conflicted Shepard just happens to have moved on with the character who's even more misunderstood, then Kaidan and there's far too much speculation about him getting cameo at best due to his lack of popularity :/

Same, Stayed loyal, but then for FUN! Dumped Kaidan for Garrus; dumped Kaidan for Thane but killed him off. WHY? Just to see what happens in ME3.Milana_Saros wrote...

2. why do people romance characters that they don't like?
I romanced Kaidan in ME1 and stayed loyal. Garrus was tempting for a few seconds but he is...kinda lizardy. It was told like, what, ages ago that if you "cheat" on your ME1 LI then there will be reprocutions so why QQ about it now? Just re-play ME1 withouth romancing anyone if it bothers you that much. Just another Kaidan-hate thread in discuise IMO.
I am doing the same with my male Shepards, dumped Liara & romanced no one, romanced Tali, romanced Jack (best of all), worse was Jacob, but I deleted that save, and had sex with Mornith (yeah died) so I killed her off.
