@Serpie

Yeah, one good thing about being on these forums, I've learned things I never thought to learn about, and its been quite interesting. I do try to have an open mind about things, but sometimes frustration closes that door.

Oh, get Mor to make the proper modifications to the suits shield generators for the anti-emoticon function.

@craig

Yeah its good that the IP is continuing, but when the head EA boss said they want to have a yearly release for all their games, and the way it was said that includes DA. Which is horrible news if true.

Sigh, really should get a mod to change that in the topic title, as its false advertising.

Sometimes it seems better to drop an IP while its ahead (somewhat) than to wait for a trainwreck to happen.  A yearly release of a game may be a sound business strategy at a glance, and might sate fans--for a while--but then each year they will pump out 60 dollar rush-jobs which, more likely than not, will progressively anger gamers who will probably end up migrating to other developers who can actually put time and effort into making games that gamers want and reap all the rewards.

Sad if true.

It is looking that way, Ali. Well, will have to wait and see till after ME3, and whatever they put out for the next DA3. After that,  my decision about abandoning bioware will be cemented if this trend continues.

Nepp, didn't that John Riceatelo guy say that they plan to produce DA games on a yearly basis. Or did I misinterpret that statement? Good God, my head hurts from having to read PR-speakPosted Image

Some speculate that to mean that EA wants to sell directly to the consumer by way of online entertainment. I think that's what I remember. Lemme find a link.

Have they mentioned anything like a full blown exspansion for the game like Awakening?
?

I read somewhere that they're only doing Witch Hunt-style DLCs. Can't say for sure if that's accurate. Sorry!

@cancermeat

While ago I read that they planned no awakening type expansions for DA2, only DLCs.

@Ali

From what I read, he included DA in the yearly release schedules for games, could of been a mistake, but the way it was worded indicated that was the way.

And yes, EA wants to basically shut down retailers, and sell directly to the consumer digitally. They hate the trade-in and used game business.

Looks like everyone who said that sales were terrible and not enough to merit a sequel were pretty wrong.

Not really. Even assuming this means two million copies sold rather than just shipped, sales lose meaning when you cut the price by more than half and have to package in a better game to push the numbers up.

Sales are sales, your acting a bit overdramatic about it (not that it matters though, the whole forum will agree anyways) =/

I think that if Dragon Age 2 was the exspansion for DAO it would have been the best expansion ever made at least Bioware's.

I think he's right on this. How else would they make them become "year round" businesses than to be a fully integrated digital entertainment company

Does that work? Does digital stop resale altogether? Logically it would, because there's no hard copy, but can't it be transfered from computer to computer? I mean wiping it off one computer to be installed at another person's computer legally?

Or is that attempt to undermine the used game sales market as doomed to fail as the lame attempts to stop the "Jack Sparrow" kind of people?

I speculate they will require each person to have a legit code to register their game. This would prevent others in the same household from using/sharing that copy. This will kill trade ins for them because essentially  it will mean everyone will have to buy a new one from them.
The way they see it, instead of one game per household, it would be x number of games/service per household.

*shrugs*
What do you think nep? Sound about right?

Sounds about right, sis. But I don't thnk any household is dumb enough to pay for THAT. At least I hope not.

I'd say so fightright. Also, expect more draconian forms of DRM as well. It could be something that runs as a service, checking the MD5sum of the exe, if its been altered in anyway, locks the game down.

This is what I pretty much envision from EA in regard to digital sales of games.

Sab, the death of the used game business would be a bonus to EA.

*harumph* As the person Jack Sparrow was based off of I take great offense at this statement. Because games are something I'd never pirate, nor ever buy used for that matter. I frown on both practices.

Now excuse me while I go try to figure out where the rum wandered off to....Posted Image

Well, I'll not pretend to know much about business strategies, but wouldn't that prevent a lot of people from buying the game in the first place? I always thought that the possibility of reselling games is an incentive. My kids certainly love the trade-in market.
