I'm sorry, where did you get the idea that I was referencing the actual report, and not the article about the report?

Was it where I said: "what is reported EA actually said"

Or was it where I said: "These are the words that are coming out of someone's mouth who is reporting what EA told them. "

Maybe you should learn how to read before responding in anger?

HY-OH!

Take a breather, man. People are taking this waaaaaaay too personally.

I'm perfectly calm. Blood pressure normal. Sitting here on my laptop on a patio sipping iced tea in the first truly nice warm spring day of the season for usually-rainy Oregon.

So what you're saying here is that you've not contributed anything to the discussion we're actually having.

Not true. They said sold (not shipped).

"BioWare today confirmed Dragon Age II has sold - not shipped - over 1 million copies worldwide in less than two weeks."

Like I said above...

Again, wrong.  You are referencing an IGN article, which is based on the mis-interpretation of a statement made by Bioware.

The IGN article is based on (and provides a link to) the ME2 offer page (now taken down as the offer has ended), which stated clearly 'hit the 1 million mark'.  NOT SOLD.

Hitting the 1 million mark usually means sold. And as I recall, it was confirmed that these 1 million copies were indeed SOLD, not SHIPPED.

You're trying too hard to portray a game you hate as a failure.;)

I find the actual subject matter interesting. That being the earnings report. But the report is what it is. Whether it says it sold a dozen copies or 15 million, it doesnt really affect my enjoyment of the game. Any discrepencies is between EA and the IRS.

So why is the hater reactionary response to rush in and discredit? Are they somehow worried that if it sells too many copies they will somehow be proven wrong for disliking the game? I don't see how it changes a thing for them either.

Actually, no. I was here 2 months after DAO was released and it got flamed to hell and back by Baldur's Gate fanboys, for not being a "true spiritual successor."

Which is why I find it ironic that some of the same people come back and bash DA2 for similar reasons and simultaneously put DAO up on a pedestal when they were demonizing it not really all that long ago.

Actually, reporting numbers shipped as product sold is usually called out. It's stupid because that product will find its way home if it doesn't sell, but you can't go back in time and amend your exciting announcement "2 million shipped (half of which will be reacquired by next fiscal year)."

This doesn't say anything about Dragon Age II; you're the one who's trying to make it into an argument about success and failure and whether the game is good or bad. Why is it so difficulty for you to give people a chance to have the information necessary to understand what's being reported and then discuss that and decide their own opinion?

I'm not discrediting anyone. I'm merely pointing out that copies shipped are not copies sold, in the vernacular of the common every day gamer.

Certainly.  The exact text which was displayed on the ME2 offer page was identical to the exact text Chris Priestly posted in the forums.  Link:

As a special thank you for helping with the game’s early success, BioWare would like to present you with a download code for 2010’s Game of the Year, Mass Effect 2 on PC."

(Turns out I had the word wrong - I had thought it was 'hit' the 1 million mark.  At any rate, my point still stands)

Idunno seems pretty easy to me to see that if it reaches their goal for profitability then it will be a model they stay with rather than revert it. But i'm pretty sure most of us "haters" know its not gonna happen because of laidlawl.

I wouldn't take the highground just yet regardless of the argument between me and Boiny about the 1 million mark the simple fact is EA have merely by looks of it dropped a massive amount of stock on retailers probably at a vastly reduced rate which in the end EA will have to more than likley cough up a huge amount in credit notes to retailers for unsold stock at a later date. Becuase there is no way that took them 2 weeks to sell 1 million copies which included preorders then in just over 1 week sell another million without benefit of preorders.

Breaking 1 million does not mean sold or hit, it means it could be either therefore does not prove anything regarding your statement. While my source does actually use the word sold and specifically highlights the phrase (not shipped).

Oh, I am aware of that being possible. And the moment there's proof, I'll believe it. And until then, benefit of the doubt applies. In my case, anyway.=]

Actually it does, as the IGN article is clearly based on the exact text I posted there.  It's quite common for gaming websites to read official statements such as that made by EA and mis-interpret it.

No, I merely stated that EA themselves have not actually confirmed that DA2 has sold 1 million OR 2 million copies.  This is absolutely true.

To counter this, we have an IGN article which lists it's source, and turns out to be wrong, as it's source doesn't say 'sold'.

Please note that I am not saying the 1 million copies haven't been sold - I'm just saying EA have not officially confirmed it.

We have no idea what it is based on, only that they linked the developers site for the product. We have no idea if they rang and verified the details prior to creating the article but given the fact the specifically highlight the not shipped phrase I would be inclined to say they verified it prior to writing the article. Your source on the other hand does no longer exist to check. Which is why I asked for a source that discredits the article and I would admit it could be more likley wrong but your source doesnt exist anymore so I can't agree with you if I have no way of verifying it without jumping to assumptions of what might be or not.
