Tacky product placement. By this I mean tobacco. It's totally out of place in ME universe, so money must have changed hands. If it had occurred only with TIM it wouldn't have raised suspicions, but then I spotted an Elcor with a cigar. To my knowledge tobacco products are not found in ME1.

Actually if it was a certain brand, probably product placement,
but to my knowledge, there was no brand placement...

I wonder who would pay to have tabaco present in the game? the ATF?
