According to EA head honcho John Riccitiell, BioWare is adjusting the Mass Effect IP to appeal to a larger audience.

"One of the things that Ray Muzyuka and the team up in Edmonton have done is essentially step-by-step adjust the gameplay mechanics and some of the features that you'll see at E3 to put this in a genre equivalent to shooter meets-RPG," he said, "and essentially address a much larger market opportunity than Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2 began to approach.

"We're huge believers in the IP and are purposefully shifting it to address a larger market opportunity."

Sounds like a load of marketing speak to me. Still, not sure what he means by 'adjust' and 'purposefully shifting [the IP]'. More DudeBro anyone?

To me, it just sounds like he's saying "Bioware is trying to make both a better shooter and RPG" in as many words as possible.

They've already said "no multiplayer". If they were really serious about multiplayer by now they would have marketed it instead of lying about it. I'm going with IrishSpectre257 on this.

Wow you really are a spamming troll. Gears 2 fathered mass Efect 2 so show some respect to Cliffy B and the Gears franchise bwoy bwoy.

"One of the things that Ray Muzyuka and the team up in Edmonton have done is essentially step-by-step adjust the gameplay mechanics and some of the features that you'll see at E3 to put this in a genre equivalent to shooter meets-RPG," I do like. Why? BECOUSE THIS MEANS A GAMEPLAY VIDEO IS gonna be revealed at E3! Confirmed officially:devil: (With no spoilers i hope) so that also ends the speculation about that, at last:)

Whatever. I'm pretty much set and done after ME3 is out. Launch the franchise out of a cannon into a damn volcano if you want to.

I sincerely hope this is the case and Mr Riccitiello has just overdone the marketing talk. Still, the 'purposefully shifting' part sounds slightly ominous, to me at least.

Pretty much this.

And the delay means I can save up the money quicker, so I don't care if I get burned.

Ugh, that also means they'll be dumbing down the romances and everything else gameplay even more, right? I don't wanna be playing Gears, I wanna be playing ME. I really hope they aren't delaying their game because of this "larger market" bull****.

I don't see anything abnormal about this. It seems to be the classic marketing speech.

Thinking back before ME2 came out; if I had taken a shot every time the words "emotionally engaging" were uttered in a press release, I would have died months before the game came out.

I don't give half of a duck as long as the game is fine.

Isn't the Mass Effect series already a shooter-RPG at this point?

I doubt that. Bioware wouldn't do that. ME 3 will be epic.

I don't know how much more they can dumb it down for that crowd. I thought ME2 was supposed to appeal to some huge market.

I fail to see where people are getting the rich and complex RPG from. ME1 was more of a shooter than an RPG when it came to inventory and powers and such. Same with ME2. But what I think makes it a good RPG, is the character developments, and the character interactions and the choices. Not the silly inventory that just felt like a time grinder for me.

You know. The Role Playing part of an RPG.

I sincerely hope this is purely to appease investors after news of the release delay, i.e. "don't worry, we are only delaying it to sell more copies."

It's extremely hard not to associate "larger market" with dumbing down a la DA2.

They've stated that there will be no multiplayer, which i'll be using as my security blanket. Because multiplayer?

No thanks.

As usual, it is apparent that NO ONE AT EA IS LISTENING TO THE FANBASE.
