At the end of the day its still BIOWARE. You can give me all the bs excuses (oh its this team not that team) and oh my its Mass Effect 3 and not DA2 (2 completely different games! OH MY!).
But the cold hard facts are this
1) EA owns Bioware
2) Bioware sold out and is now in the business of making money
3) In order to make said money they have betrayed the 360 fanbase, milked out the franchise with horrible comics and mediocre novels, and probably a crappy movie in the future.
4) Mass Effect 3 will get the usual EA marketing blitz and as awesome as Mass Effect 2 was..that's how mediocre ME3 is going to be.
You are correct. It's still BioWare. However:
1. Yes, EA owns BioWare. So what?
2. BioWare sold out? Proof? Or are you just a fanboy like those idiots that raged on Metallica and those like them for going "mainstream" in the music industry? Oh, also... You Fail Business Forever: EVERY BUSINESS WANTS TO MAKE MONEY!!! THAT IS HOW THEY ARE ABLE TO GET WHAT THEY NEED TO MAKE WHAT THEY MAKE!
3a. Betrayed the 360 fanbase? They hold no loyalty to the Xbox 360 platform-- no company is obligated to continually make games for specific platforms. So, GTA4 going onto the 360 and not merely staying with the PlayStation was a "betrayal" by Rockstar towards the PlayStation fanbase... or, so says your logic.
3b. Mediocre novels and comics? That is your opinion, so stop parading it as fact.
4. You know this how? EA is not some tyrant that makes crappy games to troll gamers. They're a company. They want money, and need to make money. If what they churn out is mediocre (and whether or not it is mediocre is a matter of opinion, ultimately), then that's their fault, but it's no reason to utterly hate them simply for making the money needed to support the workers of the company.
All in all, and no offense intended... but you just seem like an Xbox 360 fanboy with your ranting, and you're not showing me anything to make me think you're right in your assessments.
And the ultimate irony in that? I own a 360, and most of my games are for it! I support the 360 out of the Big Three consoles, but I'm NOT some ignorant fanboy that goes: "OH NOEZ, MASS EFFECT IS GONNA SUCK BECAUSE BIOWARE SOLD OUT, HERP-A-DERP DERP!"
Bottom line: Shut up, quit whining, and ENJOY THE GAME FOR WHAT IT IS, WHEN IT ACTUALLY GETS RELEASED!
/rant
Honey I've never denied that I'm a 360 Fanboy. Proud of it
As for "Business" I know exactly how business works. I know all the reasons they went multiplat and all the other crap that EA/Bioware has spewed out over the last few years has been to "make money".
That's it. Don't pretend like they are doing it to please the fans and "expand the universe" cuz they're NOT.
Just shameless cash ins in various form factors.
SO YES Bioware did SELL OUT. There is nothing wrong with going mainstream. In fact I'm glad that Mass Effect is as popular as its become.
But it could have been JUST AS POPULAR had Bioware NEVER sold itself to the devil. I fully believe that. They were doing quite fine sales wise on the 360 and pc combo. And they would have continued to grow if they had stayed that way.
Good night. And I'm not "ranting" or "raving". Your insults don't matter to me. I'm simply stating the truth and how I feel about the subject. And I know that I'm not the only 360 gamer who feels that way.

how can any fan of the mass effect series not be worried by what that dude said. and he clearly did not say hes "tweaking" the game. what he said translates directly into "we're dumbing it down so more people will buy it"
if someone from bioware was reading this, then they KNOW what kind of response that quote would get, and they wouldnt be laughing. in fact they would most likely be worried because they know what the hardcore fans will think
Your pathetic attempt at trolling failed. Any person that actually knows about how business works will not think something like that... or, as a matter of fact, anyone that knows anything about how the gaming industry works.
I'm not necessarily saying you don't, but what you've said is ignorant. I am a diehard ME fan. Playing both games multiple times. And despite the problems both games had, do you see me whining? No. I actually trust BioWare to make a good game, regardless of what it turns out to be.
Why? Because at the end of the day, I just like playing video games.

You can get worried, but that doesn't mean you should. Look at the statement in the context in which it was made. He was talking at an investor Q&A, which means he has to say something in order to appease the investors and explain to them why the f*ck why they decided not to release for the big holiday season and instead go for a Q1 release in terminoligy that they (the investors) can understand.
Investors don't want to hear about "ooo game mechanics" and "ohh RPG elements" because not only do they not give a sh*t, but they also actually don't understand how this sort of stuff translates into a good rate of return on their EA stock. So when John Riccitiello says this to a group of investors I think it's fairly safe to say that he's trying to get around saying "hey, bioware convinced us that we need a few more months to refine it," and the best way to say that is to say "look gentlemens, we won't release in time for the holiday rush, BUUUT, the game is so friggin amazing that it's going to sell no matter when we release it so don't sell our stock pretty please."
Had he been talking to a group of gamers, he might have said "we're delaying the game in order to fine-tune the detials and make sure that everything is ok". Oh, wait. What do you know?:
Wow, look at that! You see how when they addressed us, the gamers, they said "we're delaying the game because we only want the best for you :D""Today we have confirmed that Mass Effect 3 will be released in the first three months of 2012. The development team is laser focused on making sure Mass Effect 3 is the biggest, boldest and best game in the series, ensuring that it exceeds everyone’s expectations.” said Casey Hudson, Executive Producer Mass Effect series.
So really, EA/Bioware are just trying to say "we didn't plan for enough time" and they're trying to put a positive spin on it. Politics as usual...

You're not. Honestly. DA2 had a lot o angry fans. But ME is a trilogy. There have been hardcore fans since the start when the game was an actual RPG. Then we had ME2 and were promised a return to the RPG elements in 3. Now we have this statement. Bioware's taking a risky move with this last game. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if people show up at their office if this whole thing goes south. The hardcore, loyal fanbase has been with this franchise since the beginning, and it's a kick to the face if you're going to change genres/dumb down the last game just for more shooter fanboys. Don't forget the fans who made you who you are today. Because without RPG fans, you'd be nothing right now.

I just said I wasn't trying to insult you, dude. And if you actually did understand why they did what they did... why complain? After all, you know why they did it!
Did I ever seem under the delusion that BioWare did what they did NOT to make money? Of course not. Making money is the primary objective of any company that expects to stay afloat, regardless of what they say, because that is just how business works. Period.
Could BioWare have done just as well without being bought by EA? Maybe, but we won't really ever know.

Honestly thank you for saying this.
I'm not saying that I'm gonna go on a rampage thru the entire US untl I reach Bioware's office if ME3 is less than expected.
Cuz I'm not. Like I said earlier ever since EA bought Bioware I've always known that they would systematically decimate this great universe and franchise that we've come to love. And because of that I've finally reached the point where I just don't care that much anymore.
All I can do is voice my complaint and point out the obvious.
The truth as you so correctly stated is that withotu the RPG group Mass Effect 1 would have FAILED. It would NOT have sold over 1 million copies. It would have been in the bargin bin within 1 month. That's the simple fact of the matter.
And now we're at the point where ME3 will most likely be another "run and gun" mostly shoot em up killing spree wtih dialogue choices that don't match what you expected the character to say and interrupts that make no sense.

Of course they do things wrong. My point is that all businesses have problems with their games, and this is no reason to come out and claim that BioWare is ruined forever.
How can I trust BioWare? Well, you did say they make top-of-the-line games... they've been doing that for about ten or so years. Oh, so DA2 and ME2 came out and they weren't what you expected. Big deal. That doesn't mean others thought they were not good, or that BioWare maybe just was having a bad time. Stuff like that happens, dude, and no game is perfect.
So, please... calm down, quiet down, and wait for the game to release to actually make a concrete opinion. Me? I'm obviously the optimistic sort. If ME3 isn't what I expected, well then... too bad, so sad; BioWare is still gonna be one of the best developers out there, both in my opinion and in the opinion of the gaming industry overall.

Every RPG fan I've seen had a problem with just how ME2 was leaning towards the shooter.
I've heard of what kind of changes they've done to ME3 to make it more RPG-ish, and I think that's good. They should just keep it the way it is with the shooter. If I want to play Gears of War, I'll play Gears of War.
