Ahem.  Aaaaaaanyway, we already know that Bioware is attempting to improve BOTH the shooter (more realistic gunplay, smarter and more varied enemies, less reliance on cut-and-paste cover) and RPG elements (more customization, more complex skill trees, heavier decisions with a much higher impact on endgame results).  Not to mention all the characters they have to voice, the levels they have to design, and the friggin' enourmous expectations they have to fulfill.  They need the extra time.

"Purposely shifting it" is probably referring to the release date, and "larger market opportunity" means the easier sell since they aren't competing with Skyrim.

*breaks down into hysterical sobs (not IRL of course...)*

Finally... I'm getting a little bit of support here. I mean... I've got problems with ME, just like all of you guys... but, really... just... *sobs*

No they said or he said less like ME1 and more inline with the 'direction' that ME2 was heading.

ME2 was heading more towards shooter and less RPG (imho) so thats why I replied "No". The time extension I welcome and see as a good thing however it came hand in hand with that above (type) statement which concerns me a little.

Hey folks, I know that recent news might have made some of us (me too) a little bit tensed up, but we should still keep it calm and civil...

If I understand correctly, the purpose of this thread is to express, that despite the fact that we are pleased by Mass
Effect's prolonged development time, which should secure it the attention and care it needs ...

... the recent announcement made us a little bit worried that during the remaining development cycle, too much time and effort will be spent on new, for us, unknown features and the features that we actually  love and cherish will be either overlooked or suppressed at the expense of the new ones.

For this pupose however, the thread must live... and bad language and behaviour is the fastest way to get it locked.

Well, I've been trying to keep it civil... but honestly,.I feel as if I'm talking to a brick wall with some people on here... I usually don't get that, but then... this is the only actual gaming forum I go to, so I suppose I'm just not used to it.

Here's how I see it:

"One of the things that Ray Muzyuka and the team up in Edmonton have done is
essentially step-by-step adjust the gameplay mechanics and some of the
features that you'll see at E3 to put this in a genre equivalent to
shooter meets-RPG, and essentially address a much larger
market opportunity
than Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2 began to
approach."

TRANSLATED: We are trying to improve both the shooter and RPG elements so we can capture both audiences.

"We're huge believers in the IP and are purposefully shifting it to address a larger market opportunity."

TRANSLATED: We moved the release date so we don't have the compete with Skyrim.

If it's true that they are taking away more RPG aspects/levels/skills/details, It would feel like EA pulled a "silly rabbit trix are for kids" on Bioware, seeing that Hudson was stating all of the great improvments not even a week ago in his interview...

If there were going to actually be a significant shift in the RPG systems they've implemented in ME3 than the delay would be much much longer than at most 5 months(Nov-Mar). Between playtesting and basically having to start at step one with a few systems that would need to be dumbed down to actually depreciate the game in any significant way I would but any major change in design theory(which considering how much they've already made it clear they were going to do a healthy balance it would be idiotic to go back on that in any significant capacity) would take well over 5 months.

he didn't say that at all. he said the direction that they BOTH moved in. Bioware has promised to up the RPG features. Nowhere in the statement do they say that the delay is so they can tweak it for a broader audience, I read it more as that these "tweaks" have been part of the process all along. They have said there is no multiplayer.

People, please use your long term memory AND your reading comprehension skills. I KNOW you have them.

**** YOU EA.

I seriously hope it'll blow up in your face, you morons. Like with DA2. I will personally lead smear campaigns and make sure 1000's of gamers don't buy your trash if this game is going to cater even more to RETARDED people.

Well I'll tell you what...I don't think these 4 months more(that's if they don't release in january or feb)are gonna be for addingmore rpg elements. And sorry people every time they use the word
"BROAD AUDIENCE" they are reffering to the average casual gamer who DOESN'T like difficult games with too many options or menus, everytime you hear that they usually make it more casual friendly...

It feels like that scene from American Psycho, when all of the corporate fatcats were sitting around in some lounge being all misogynistic except here they aren't talking about women, they are talking about RPG games and it's complexities..

I'm really unsure about your analysis of the "market opportunity" thing. I felt like it was the usual "We want the COD crowd".

The way I see it as (even just a possibility) the last time they used Broaden the fanbase/audience they created DA2. Which I thought was at best an average game not no way near the quality of past Bioware titles. I can't see really how they will broaden the audience etc without changing something major, something neither ME1 or 2 have. Because the simple fact of it being if ME1 and 2 have it in any way then it already has (that) audience to begin with so it is not broadening unless it's something different. (imho) Though it depends on how broad they wish to go.
