I was looking forward to this game for two months now even though I haven't been following a lot of the media so closely. Now my worst fears are confirmed - there is no coop. How can there be no coop? Is this another reason for me to hate consoles even more?

I understand about all the immersive character companion crap but nwn and nwn2 both had coop! Even if it's revolutionary and much better why not also have coop? Can real players not substitue these amazing companions?

How can they say they are going back to the roots, especially back to the roots of Baldurs Gate 2 when one of the best things about that game (a reason why people STILL play it today) is COOP.

Is it because of consoles? Why? Give me a legitamite answer dammit. I was looking forward to playing with 3 of my friends and now I can't.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

It has been a singleplayer only game for years. I don't see how you could have gotten your hopes up over it. It would be like getting all disappointed that Halo didn't have a pause-n-play option.

Did you see it say DAO would have multiplayer ANYWHERE these last 5 years?

You can still look forward to playing it with your three friends.

Each of you can upload your character and their journey through the game and watch how each of you take different routes through the game. Then you can talk about it and compare the choices you all made to get where you are in the adventure.

What do consoles have to do with no co-op? There's no coop because Bioware wanted to create a deep single player RPG without worrying about adding in co-op, which would have added a lot to the development costs.

"But what about basic hacky co-op like BG?" I hear you ask.

Well, any half-arsed co-op would be dinged by reviewers and fans, so Bioware decided not to have any. But this was a long time ago. If you're surprised that a single player game lacks co-op, I question how much you were really looking forward to DA:O in the first place.

No one ever said it would have co-op play I don't think the model would really work well after all in a single player RPG the whole point is your character is the star of the show, also unlike NWN it's got a proper party dymanic which works better with a single player interaction.

The reason they didn't have multiplayer is quite simple. They didn't want to. They didn't want to have to constantly balance the classes for people whining about "X class is op" and the responses that will follow of "lern 2 play QQ nub" or..whatever. Also, the conversations would be a hassle for the other people in your group. It'll either pause the game while the Conversation is occuring (like NWN2 did) or the other people will just stand around doing nothing. And speaking of pausing, the game on PC is designed for Pause and Play gameplay. How annoying would it be for your friend to pause the game while you're getting into the action?

With those reasons in mind. They decided not to bother with it. Maybe in another game or expansion. Who knows. But for now, those are your reasons. Whether you consider them legitimate or not is up to you.

I can never understand people who claimed to have loved the multiplayer in BG. I have a feeling a good portion of them are lying just to say, "BG had it, why not DA?" Having to sit through someone else playing the story half the time then fighting over the pause function just screams frustrating as hell to me.

Back to the roots of baldur's gate has nothing to do with MP or co-op, and has never been understood that way by 90pct of the fans of BG 1 and 2, it got nothing to do with console version either, the game simply isn't optimized to be an mp/co-op game, in the way that, it is largely played through the dialogues, and the interactions, which don't allow a MP type of gameplay.

No multiplayer = AWESOME.

Much love for that choice, Bioware.

I guess I just hoped I could play with my friends which of course wouldn't be as retarded as playing with random people on the internet. I really just had a lot of fun in nwn2 with coop so I was looking forward to it in Dragon Age. Maybe I should of paid more attention <_< Oh well I'm still going to play it anyway and I'm sure it'll be great.

I can understand being a little disappointed, but it has been in the FAQ for several years, so it really shouldn't have been a surprise, is all. :)

Hopefully you'll still enjoy it quite a bit.

Shut down all telephones. Lock your doors. Turn down the light. Immerse yourself in a universe, free from powergaming or the interferance from other people.

You'll soon realize that this is indeed awesome and that your friends, despite how friendly they are, are also retards and that you have no business playing with them.

How did you have fun in NWN2 with coop, the campaign became an utter mess as soon as you tried it. If I'd gone 15minutes without saving the game would crash and we'd lose all our progress. Not to mention how much of a crapfest it was setting it up.

Note: I am talking about the OC  here, not any user made mods.

Please don't assume the worst of people just because you don't understand them.

It makes a lot more sense for people to want co-op in DA:O because they really did love it in BG, and hoped to see it in the game's "spiritual sucessor".
