Aren't Bioware expanding upon the ME2 system? Sounds like they are actually adding depth instead of making it more shallow.

The same can be said about DA:O and ME2, those two games marked with the all evil EA logo went pretty good.

Although this is true, keep in mind that Origins had been in development for years before bioware merged with evil EA.

If that is true, how did bioware get the resources to make the game? they left Microsoft and made the contract with EA so that they can release their games on the PS3.

And as much as we know, this "Appeal to the bigger market" can be implying to the mobile game.

As a developer/artist/writer/actor/musician, why wouldn't you want to share your project with as many people as possible?

You people need to stop being so dramatic. If it matters that much to you, make your own video games and only market them to a small, specific group of people and see how long you can afford to do that.

Indie developers get by just fine.

Amnesia dark descent, very succesfull for horror fans.
Recettear, very succesfull, dunno who it was marketed though.
Or minecraft. it has propably sold more than DA2 with only 1 developer, not exactly mass market game that one either.

Minecraft has more than one developer.

Yes now, only after creation of Mojang though. At least I think so.

Developing the ME series under EA is like sex with Kobe Bryant. You can kick and scream and say "NO!" all you want... but it's gonna happen.

Cue the, "EA HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT IT WAS DONE BEFORE THEY TOOK OVER AND NOW ALL THE GAMES ARE GUNNA SUCK!!!" response.

Thing is I agree aridor1570, because they were decent. But you can't deny that whenever EA becomes interested in a series, through a gradual descent, it turns into *correction* something entirely different and possibly more simpler.

And yet... when I see the DA2 trailer videos and reviews going on ABOUT DA2 right now, you want to laugh and wonder if they are getting paid to say such positive things. On top of that, the DA2 following seems to be made up of hyperactive kids (for the majority) when looking at the DA2 comments on youtube and other forums. So if you voice your opinion on the mechanics the only response you get is being called a ****. *shrug* That's the type of fanbase it has attracted. I would be really dissapointed if ME3 follows suite.

The original Minecraft was developed by Notch, after it's success he hired people to further develop the game.

Bioware become part of EA in 2007, Dragon age was first announced 2004. As for funding I don't know. Profits from their earlier games perhaps.

EA has spoken at an investor conference about realigning the franchise to appeal to a larger market. Does this have anything to do with the delay? What does this mean for the game?

Discuss.

It means ME3 will become a disappointment as much as DA2 was.

The big mistake I think developers make is when they TRY to go for a larger audience.

That's not gonna work, what you should do is TRY to make the best game you can make at the time, to make a vision become a reality.

Demon's Souls was a PS3 game that had absolutely no marketing outside of word of mouth from fans and it sold over 1 million units.

No commercials. No press announcements or releases. Only one trailer. Brand new IP. And it sold that much.

Why? They tried to make the best game they could make.

"We're huge believers in the IP and are purposefully shifting it to address a larger market opportunity."

Urgh. EA, if you want me to not pre-order the game, then please keep making statements like this.

We all know when EA looks at the headlines about how much money the new Modern Warfare has made. They blush, they lick there chops and tell all there developers too make there games more shooter like even those without guns. If they make 800,000,000.00 with COD we need to hop on that cash cow. That number is the market share EA is talking about. Mass Effect is the highest rated game this gen but it's sales don't reflect being number one. Sometimes it is way more profitable to cater to the lowest common denominator. It ain't personal it's business.

They already have done it.  Hopefully, if this is indeed in the works, they won't do it so wrong this time.

But it wasn't the decision of EA to change the game, it was the DA team, people seem to forget that fact, the ME team ar'nt going to change the game, just adding some small mechanics and adding more RPG elemants, that might aswell what they meant with "Appeal to the greater market" might as well mean the RPG market, since ME2 is "Less of an RPG".

You know what? lets just wait for E3, then we'll all decide if they're screwing the game over.

I think it is bit naive to assume EA didn't push DA team to make those changes to DA2.

I hope you guys are correct. I really do.

However more depth is not generally what "for larger audiences" means.
