FALSE!!!

Again, listen to the limite edition DVD of ME1, read the interviews before ME1 release, listen to Sci Vs Fi....
ME1 was NEVER intended to be a shooter. Never!!!
They (the old Bioware, the original Casey Hudson) NEVER stated that ME1 was an shooter/rpg!!!!
Please... see how they used to define ME1...
The shooter part is just the action component of the game... ONE ELEMENT OF THE MIX !!!!
But seriously, you have really play ME1?!?!?

Please, people, it is time to tell the truth and to accept that BiowEA has wasted a WONDERFUL FRANCHISE!!!

That contained so much stupid, I'm not even going to bother replying with a proper response.

Though I know this would make many rage, I don't mind cuting down inventory or gun customization or how much I can dress up my buddies.  But cutting down on immersive elements like lore, conversations, exploration, story choices, personality choices, that does bother me.  I think they struck a pretty good balance in ME2, though I would have liked more conversations with my comrades in arms, but I also know that casual gamers don't like spending long amounts of time in conversation.  I really hope cutting down conversation isn't the sort of change they're considering.

I agree. They could use squad banter a little more efficient in ME3. Beyond that, ME3 is shaping up pretty good, with the expanded skill tree, weapon mods and all that.

As far as i know Bioware has always claimed the Mass Effect games to be "action-rpg's" and nothing more or less.

Now that is some bad news indeed (unless it is just trying to impress investors without basis in reality)

I can not remember if there was ever a case of a game improving in quality by being "tweaked" for the masses. Half of the time this only results in a watered down game that dissapoints the core fans and still does not sell well and the other half it just disappoints the fans and sells not much better than it would have without tweaking.

I notice that he's talking about the franchise and not ME3 specifically, I guess we'll have more ipod/ipad,phone games and perhaps a mmo is also in the planning stage.

+1

I don't think devs are as stupid or as powerless as you imagine them. What we read in gameinformer won't be deleted out just because the release date was changed. Yes, maybe it was mainly for financial reasons, and for widening franchise to various platforms, but that does not spell "throw all the work you already did in the trash bin and make shooter for COD fans".

@ franzius: the rpg element is also only one part of the mix... so your point is invalid. also right from the first videos they always ALWAYS referred to the game as an action-rpg, or hybrid, or any other adjective term for it, it was NEVER solely intended to be more rpg or shooter, and all the first load of videos highlighted - guess what - shooting (and other mechanics, including rpg ones).

@ someone with mass: i LOL'd.

maybe there was a change in game design for ME 3 and it needs to be made to appeal to w ider audience . but that is not a bad thing neither

The EA effect on Bioware is doing it's the best to drive away/worry their longtime fanbase, what a pity.. Didn't they just promise to increase the RPG elements, isn't this focus on adding a new market what turned DA2 into a low point of that franchise.

At the end of the day EA has to make money and show investors and shareholders that they are profitable with big blockbuster games like Mass Effect 3 . If that means ME 3 needs to be changed to bring in more people into franchise which means more money. they will do it

im gonna stick with the consept they just moved the date so it isnt going to get lost in the other gametitels thats released in the holliday season. comon how can they let themself ruin a game like this or "dumb" it down, they are probably sticking with the facts in gameinformer. is a rpg game so bad for the general public?

People who don't need to spend 30 minutes before every mission with boring inventory system? People who care more of plot and characters than having rpg-like features at all costs?

Why in the bleeding hell does this Riccitiello fella got his grubby hands on one of my favorite IP's? Let the dev team make the damn game. I thought this was a joke when I first read it. It couldn't sound any worse:

"One of the things that Ray Muzyuka and the team up in Edmonton have done is essentially step-by-step adjust the gameplay mechanics and some of the features that you'll see at E3 to put this in a genre equivalent to shooter-without-RPG,"

Guess what genius. That's precisely what ME2 was.

fixed that for you

Seems to me they going to just pollish the hell out of this game so its not going to be another "Da2"

I can hardly imagine an intelligent to have any problem with such difficult tasks like organize a couple of things in a list and customizing their party the way it works best for them

yeah but I am sure me and others do not want to deal with that crap in 3 . ME 2 had it right when it dropped the stupid inventory system .

I didn't say that the inventory system and customization are bad things, but I find ridiculous when people whine of their absence in ME2 like they were the only features that made ME1 interesting.

They may be doing that but what EA's CEO said means that they will also make it more appealing to a wider audience .

If you think removing flawed, boring gameplay elements is "tweaking it for a larger market", so be it.

Go play something else. By your own admission, you're part of the "smaller market", so it makes little difference weather you leave or stay.

Just stop trying to ruin the game for those of us who value function over bollocks.

And who said "stupid inventory system" would be back? All I heard is that they just added customization on guns, much like what we had with armor. Where is problem in that? And i certainly won't mind all ammo powers go into this customization screen - instead of picking a squadmate with appopriate "squad ammo" talent for each mission(more freedom in picking companions)
