And what does that really mean?  Does it mean "RPG elements are being removed to appeal to casuals"?  Or "They're adding multiplayer"?  Or "This is just a way to justify avoiding the competition around the holiday season"?  Or "This was just a way to justify giving Bioware extra time to polish it"? Or "He's just restating what Hudson and others have said: more RPG elements this time"? These are all things that various people think it means, which only demonstrates what I've been saying: so vague it's useless.

I mean how many people would, say, buy an iPhone/iPad or Android game with James Sanders as the main protagonist as a precursor to ME3, so that they can get a new angle on the Mass Effect Universe? Is that not also reaching a broader market opportunity?

OK, there seems to be some confusion about Man-Giraffe-Dog on the forums, notably that it just looks like a Giraffe-Dog. Well... that's the POINT. Why do you think I'm the only one warning you. It's disguised as a Giraffe-Dog until it's ready to take over the world.
OK this is how Man-Giraffe-Dog came to be:
Image IPB

While growing up it was spotted in the wild (but the team was all killed by it and the photos were recovered afterwards)
Image IPB

After which it began its infiltration of humanity, disguised as Giraffe-Dog:

Which leaves us here. Man-Giraffe-Dog is poised to attack and destroy humanity and I'm trying to warn everyone before it's too late. This is totally serial guys. You need to prepare.

Excelsior!

I would like to get back to the topic and express my opinion about this, but before I start it I want to give a little example, let's take DA2, shortly after it was announced bioware gave us information about the changes made and shortly after that we were given a short gameplay trailer, and even after that we were given with a much more solid shot of how the gameplay is, Bioware gave the warning, people did not listen, and those who did either liked it, or disliked it.

Now, at the recent GI article we found some interesting information, the gameplay will be almost, and I repeat: ALMOST, the same from ME2 with little tweaks, such as picking up enemy weapons, modding your weapons(which is a good RPG element there) and new In-combat movement abilities, there's your warning, we now know how the game has changed, I am not worried, and if you still think this is false, wait for E3, no doubt there's going to be a small video with how the gameplay has changed, for the better or for the worst.

I'd like that. Don't know if I'd buy it, but the bonus would be nice.

I heard DA2 has a good story. Never played it myself, though.

And it's not the gameplay that makes an RPG, but I won't even bother explaining this because the RPG "purists" are deaf to this kind of reasoning.

Then you heard wrong. One of the elements that has been most criticised is the Story itself, which being a BioWare game, is a first-timer. Its hard to judge it if you haven't even played it.

I've finished it, almost 100 hours of gameplay playing on Nightmare level and I rate it as a 4/10. No replayability unless you want to visit yet again another 10 times the same re-used dungeon.

And btw I'm a console-player, not a PC RPG purist player.

Since players of ME1 and ME2 will buy ME3 regardless they might as well ignore those people and focus on a new customerbase. Cause even if it is a crap game, fans from the first game will stll want to know who the story turns out. After you bought it you can complain all you want, but then they have your money so they won't care.

After DA2 they shouldn't keep saying things like this. Haven't they learned anything?

Anyway what is there to streamline in ME3 after ME2? Let's take all skills off? Or get rid of fem Shepard?

Remember - these CEO Investor calls and updates, and soundbites chosen for people... they're not about the products, they are about the profits. Get some perspective at least until we're told otherwise....

As I read the article, 'realigning to a broader market opportunity, by ripping out the guts of a fantastically successful franchise and replacing it with Killstreaks, multiplayer, and a load of lag, headsets, and 12yr old's giving people courses in swearing in the lobby' wasn't actually mentioned....

I am not sure what it means by tweaking game mechanics .  It is vague on the mechanics part but I am sure there is something that will either be added or changed that will appeal to a wider audience . I do not want the rpg  part to be removed . It could be a story tweak that relates to game play .

This, form a corporate point of view, is a suicidal way of thinking.

Fans will not buy a sequel just because its a sequel, you are sorely mistaken imo.

With DA2 they had ET of 10 million units being sold. They'll be lucky if they break the 2 million units sold.

On the 8th week of sales its fallen below 30,000 copies being sold worldwide. DA:O in th 8th week was selling 10x said amount, that is 300,000 copies. Big difference.

Moreover if you break the numbers, out of the million DA2 units sold, 400k were fan pre-orders, such as mine. Many gamers will not make the same mistake twice on buying DA3, they will not pre-order it. So for DA3 they can no longer rely on the predecessor's success as they did for DA2 regarding DA:O.

Because the ban is so laughably easy to bypass. All you have to do is reset your IP address.

Anyway, we don't know what changes they're making so, I think it's a tad early to judge.

And stop comparing ME3 to DA2. It's not even made by the same team.

Not worried, investor meetings are about telling the investors about what they want to hear, not what they're actually doing.

If you've ever heard Intel or AMD go at it, every single low end CPU is going to revolutionise the industry.

Besides, even if they are making it more appealing, it just might mean the shooter elements are better (which have always been a weakness in the series). So I'm calling this a positive either way at this stage.

The main gameplay mechanic I want tweaking is cover and vaulting.... 'No If the enemy is behind me I do not want to go into cover against a wall that is facing them!!!! ' .... and I'd like skill trees that allow divergence before Level 4 ability, and for them to be applicable 'outside' a combat setting..

Oh and mining, should be replaced by something like trade agreements that provide X amount of mineral Y over a given time as long as you do or keep doing action Z, etc.

Whatever this is... it seems to come from EA... and it sounds very bad to me... I thought they delay the game to make it better... this sounds like they showed the game to EA... and EA said: Make it more like Call of Duty... only in space... so they change existing elements now... which are already ready... so what we can expect now is a streamlined shooter with non-linear dialogues...

Yes I'm fully aware its a different team. Maybe its still too early as you write to worry. We'll wait for E3.

There is one other possibility to all this: that the investor announcement was smoke and mirrors so that Bioware could focus on not making the same bad judgements that they made in DA2, like repeated maps, and so on.

I don't think they'd tack on three extra months of development to remove content.
