Possible reason for the delay...besides the obvious need for polish.

Ever since I heard about the ME3 delay, which I am all for, I have been wondering what reasons EA/BW might have for waiting a few more months to release the game.  Two possible reasons occured to me right away.  They are:

1.  The ridiculous amount of AAA titles being relased in the holiday window, including Battlefield 3.

2.  Possible scheduling issues with the VA talent.  I have heard a few unsubstantiated rumors that some of the cast memebers have recorded their parts, and others (Martin Sheen, Yvonne Strahovski, and Keith David to name a few) haven't had a chance to hit the VO booth yet.

What other reasons do you guys think might have pushed EA/BW to delay ME3, and have any of you heard any talk that might confirm one of my two suspisions?  Do any of you even care why the game was delayed?

Also because Casey Hudson wants to shift to a wider audience (like Da2) possibly to appeal to share holders so there might be a chance of them dumbing it down like Da2

They need more time to decide if yes or no they will show Tali's face.

Don't give them any ideas...;)

On a serious note I don't see how they can "dumb it down" and add additional RPG elements at the same time.  Seeing as they have already confirmed the RPG elements I am going to remain hopeful that the combat/story is just as good or better than ME2.  At least until they relase more info at E3.

The only company who delays games for polish is Blizzard, so we know that's not Bioware's reason. I'm guessing they need time to phase out the "RPG aspects" of the game they'd added back in, in order to as the EA CEO put it " approach other markets." In other words, the CoD shooter crowd who hate story and dialogue and have never been even slightly interested in Mass Effect.

After J.R. statments there is only one reason to the delay:

ME3 IS FOR SHOOTER AUDIENCE. And they FEAR Uncharted, Gears and the newCOD.
ME franchise is LOST FOREVER NOW

This is exactly why it was delayed. Don't need to speculate anymore.

I don't care wich kind of game is going to be until the story and characters remains interesting as they used to be until now. Call it, RpG, TpS or even WtF if you feel so. I want only a good game everything else are trifles.

At first I was happy it got delayed
I mean look at DA2 and what a horrible game that was

But now after reading these comments, I'm fearing for the worst.

You'd think EA would back the **** off of Mass Effect because it's already doing great

It could be so much greater if the Cod crowd were playing it, though!

Nooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

Aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

JOYSTIQ:

As saddened as we were by the news that Mass Effect 3 wouldn't reach us until next year, after an EA earnings call today we're hovering between befuddled and intrigued.

When asked about the delay, EA boss John Riccitiello said
, "Essentially, step by step, [BioWare is] adjusting some of the gameplay mechanics and some of the features that you'll see at E3 that can put this into a  genre equivalent of shooter-meets-RPG, and essentially address a far larger market opportunity than Mass Effect 1 did and Mass Effect 2 began to approach." ( = DA2)

... So what does that mean? Well, mentioning that Mass Effect 2 was closer to what EA's targeting would seem to indicate more of an  emphasis on action. But if the company's looking for "a larger market opportunity" a multiplayer component seems a surefire way to achieve that.

Here's hoping we remember to check this post after E3 to feel either  really smart or a little sheepish about our prognosticating. Also, hello future us! Hope you're having a good summer!

too many articles (online or in print) are passing off "i think" as "it is" knowing damn well if people see it they wont think twice about its authenticity...someone posted and it is real. Report! Not Purport! That part of the linked article that alludes to multi-player is gonna set off mass panic...even though it makes a effort to say it is speculation....why? WHYYYYY?

Dang, and here I was hopefull that it was delayed for some polishing and refinement. I really do hope this doesn't go the same way as DA2 or Bioware may as well end up as Westwood and Pandemic. Reaching out to a larger market/audience often means making the game more accessible, and making it more accessible often means making it simpler, and ME2 was as simple as it could get for me.

I'm still hoping ME3 turns out to become something magnificent, deep and smart. Hopefully I didn't buy and play through the first 2 games of the trilogy just to be dissappointed and see the final chapter turns into something else totally.

Damn, I hope we're not being trolled by this delay. If they go down the DA2 route with ME3 then I don't think I'll be picking up another Bioware game thereafter... I remain hopeful though... sort of. =/

It doesnt matter. Games getting delayed means that they are willing to push back for quality. Nobody wants the rush job Da2 style.

or Alpha Protocol......different company but it was delayed how many times and it was bad.... i have no point..just wanted to mention Alpha Protocol...cuz no one wants that.

I trust Bioware....they havent really let me down. They set the bar super high with their games. Im hoping they push the bar again to ensure an isolated incident is a isolated incident.

Ah sh*t!

There go the RPG elements they promised to add in again I guess. Bah...I'm not usually for for hyperbolic statements, but I've finally had enough. It appears to be the kick-the-old-fans-in-the-face time for Bioware, and didn't we all suspect that would happen with EA at the reins for some years.

Well, if the story is good and the action not too crazy I guess I'll like the game anyway. But I'm going to be more wary of future Bioware titles after ME3 if what this seems to indicate will indeed materialize, that's for sure. No more preorders without a closer look.

Its the price they pay for adding a shooter and rpg together in one game . shooter games are the big money maker in the games industry .

Guys, that PR statement is meaningless. They aren't delaying to remove content - that's absurd. The delay is probably related to how ridiculous Fall 2011 is looking for games - way too much competition. Or polish. It's not to make it a Gears clone.
