so i know people here have crunched the numbers and such, so i'd like to know whats the best weapons to use for a couple squadmates.

like Jack for example. i have no idea what weapons to use on her. with the predator she shoots alot more often, but the carnifix does alot more damage. also with the shotgun, alot effects the rate of fire, but is there also a big difference in range between them? i'd prefer a longer ranged one that might do less damage, simply to kepe them alive more

preformancewise with the AR's i found the avenger and vindicator to be around the same, but the vindicator is better if oyu want the squaddie to take cover more often, and the avenger is more for the tougher characters who you want to soak up damage for everyone else.

so i was just looking for a couple tips on what weapons to use, but please note, i have no DLC weapons. no locust, and nothing form the firepower pack i was actually gonna buy DLC this week but i was gonna get shadow broker and arrival.(well i do have that free cerberus shotgun if that counts)

so i was more wondering about the squadmate behavior with the weapons than the flat out damage itself hence why i cant particularly look it up or i would have.

The eviscerator will be your primary shotgun for you and your squadmates until the Claymore (or the Scimitar, if you prefer). Tempest for SMG. Assault rifle, Vindicator. Mantis is your sniper rifle. Predator or Carn for the pistol, personal taste.

pistols

overall: carnifex

(low damage per second (dps) difference between it and predator, small clip size -> more reloads -> taking cover more frequently, squadmates have no ammo problems)

smg's

survivability: shuriken

(burst-type gun -> taking cover more frequently)

dps: tempest

(squadmates have no recoil problems, long+contant fire)

shotguns

shotguns are useless in hands of squadmates because they lack the proper ai-routines to use them effectively (exception: dlc gps). choose eviscerator (skip the claymore for grunt), but better let them switch to their second weapon.
only exception: they are already engaged in close quarter combat.

assault rifles

overall: vindicator

(all others are far behind in terms of effectiveness, read: useless, especially avenger and geth pulse rifle)

sniper rifles

survivability: mantis

(only if you absolutly need the increased survivabililty, because dps is low)

dps: viper

legion: widow

(all statements/opinions only in terms of effectiveness, not handling, rp-purposes etc.)

On an added note, do purchase Stolen Memory, Lair of the Shadow Broker, and the Aegis and Firepower Pack. The first two are well worth the money paid, and the last two are fairly cheap.

However, I would advise against using the Mattock on your first soldier playthrough: that weapon is broken as all hell.

The Locust isn't stupidly overpowered. It's a very good assault rifle disguised as an SMG, but as other players have proven, the Tempest is more than capable of holding its own against it.

Stolen Memory also comes with a mission and a new squadmate+bonus power, and a tech upgrade. Firepower Pack just has weapons.

I play mostly on Insanity and Hardcore: difficult is difficult, no matter what weapon you're using. The only weapon that I consider game-breaking is the Mattock in the hands of a Soldier. The Phalanx is more precise, but has a slower ROF than the Carniflex, and the GPS has more kick than a normal shotgun, but the engagement ranges are completely different.

Furthermore, no matter how stupidly overpowered a weapon may be, if a player doesn't know how to play (the definition of 'play' varies, depending on who you ask), then it won't do you any good.

Jack
Shotgun: M-22 Evicerator
Heavy Pistol: M-6 Carnifex Hand Cannon.

I personally do not have high-speed internet, and therefore do not have access to DLC, and thus I use the M-23 Katana shotgun instead of the M-22 Evicerator.  While M-27 Scimitar has a higher DPS than the Katana, it does so with lower damage per shot but with a high rate of fire, larger clip, and shorter refire delay.

In my experience I find Jack is better with weapons that deal high damage per shot, but have a lower rate of fire for three reasons:
1) Subject Zero health bonus maxes at +20% (I usually only take it to level 3-- +15% Health ---because I want Squad Warp Ammo AND Pull Field).  If she uses lower damage/high-ROF weapons she will be exposed longer and is more likely to die of enemy fire.
2) Jack is a power specialist, and at higher levels with upgrades she can use her Pull ability every 5 seconds.  Over the course of a battle the few seconds she spends in power animations will add up to cut into her effective damage per second.  Therefore I feel it is more important for her to have her powers activations punctuated by doing as much damage in as few shots as possible.
3) Enemies affected by her Pull will quickly drift away from her with each shot fired (I notice this is especially evident when you equip the M-3 Predator, or it may be a feature of Warp Ammo).  This actually REDUCES her potential damage output against the target, since enemies within melee range will take double damage from the weapon and double-damage from the Warp Ammo (in addition to the normal double-base-damage that weapons and warp ammo receive from the Pull ability itself).  Therefore fewer shots with higher damage may be preferable in this case.

That said, if I am on a mission against armored enemies who...
-do not shoot back (Varren, Klixen, Husks)
-or have attacks can bypass cover (Scions, Harbinger)
-or whose attacks focus on Shepard (Praetorians)

...then replace her M-6 Carnifex with the M-3 Predator.  They have a similar DPS when used by squad mates, even though the Predator has a higher rate of fire with less damage per shot.  Normally this is a bad thing for a character with lower health bonuses and/or no shield powers.  However in this scenario I need the team to fire quickly to take out the armor of multiple husks (then finish off multiple husks with a single shockwave or pull field), and the exposure is inconsequential since cover is of little to no use in this scenario.  The innate bonus to armor damage from heavy pistols, combined with warp ammo and the armor piercing upgrade make the damage significant enough for that purpose.  In addition, it may be possible to deal MORE damage with the Predator overall within a narrower time frame if the "random double damage" from the Heavy Pistol Critical upgrade is a true random % chance with each shot fired.

Also, I recommend using this chart...specifically take note of the various modifiers (penalties) to the damage of each weapon when used by a squadmate.

Example: the Vindicator has a -45% penalty to damage, whereas the Mattock has a staggering -60% penalty.
