Remember Eden Prime!

It seemed like the Alliance have trouble to responding to an invasion force attacking a major colony world. They could only send one Frigate which already was extremely fast for its era.

They send any frigate to aid the colony.  The Normandy just happened to be heading there anyway, and it was all over before reinforcements could have arrived.

Your not getting it still. The colony was getting invaded by a large enemy force decimating their defenses and killing civilians. Obviously their communications were downed and they likely couldn't detect their enemy before actual fighting. Only one transmission was sent out and only the Normandy caught it. No one else was going there but the Normandy.

If the Collectors attacked their wouldn't be time for transmissions. Seeker swarms could have easily swarmed over major human population centers and taken them out. Even if a fleet wanted to head their they wouldn't get their in time.

Remember hero shepard had to personally hold off the Skyllian blitz until an Alliance fleet could take out the pirates that nearly decimated the entire colony and those were just pirates and slavers. Colonial Shepard's family was killed by pirates because the Alliance was to late to save them.

The Alliance doctrine is based off of let the minor garrison defend the planet until a fleet can secure it. Obviously its imperfect since colonies are either destroyed or saved but barely. An organized military force such as the Geth and Collectors would be far more effective at taking out a colony quickly.

Just a question guys, did I read somewhere that ME3 will have several different endings, or was it just speculation?

I think that is true

I don't think that cheating coming to a head at the worst possible time necessary means "inappropriate catfight at dramatic moment". I think we might see the cheated LI choosing to sacrifice themselves much like what happened on Virmire. Or at least something that involves them making a decision they would not have made if they thought they still had Shepard to live for.

Cerberus working for reapers? I think it's either an error, OR there's some major twist coming up with what the Reapers are really doing. I mean, we still don't really know their reasons for wiping life out every 50,000 years and letting it start fresh. There has to be more to it than just harvesting goop to make new Reapers.

No, you don't get that I was simply pointing out that your facts weren't entirely straight.  I wasn't addressing anything else.  You seem to have actually meant something different (and something I agree with you about), but that wasn't clear in the post I replied to.

Sorry if I mixed it up and sounded confrontational. Today is a bad day for posting especially since I'm not sufficiently using my smilies today.

Wow, too many of you are already jumping the gun on this one. We don't even know yet what the "Cerberus is with the Reapers" statement means or if it is EVEN accurate. The game is due in Q1 2012 and already people are ****ing over things that probably aren't 100% true. We don't even know when, where, and how it (or if) it even happened!

It's one of those phrases that could mean anything. I could say, "Man, orange juice is awful!" But you don't even know why I said it was awful, or what it is that makes it awful in the first place! I know that the internet if full or people who like to complain, but tone it down a bit and just wait for E3 dammit.

I don't think it was confontational (or at least, only mildly so).  We just misunderstood one another's intent.  As I noted in an edit, I actually agree with what you were really getting at.

Well I will admit that a determined force can defeat the Collectors. The problem is that no one but Cerberus and the Shadow Broker really knows that the Collectors are attacking Human Colonies. Everyone else are just pretty much shoving their heads in the sand acting like they don't know what to do and blaming it on Pirates.

As long as the Council was playing stupid (Not sure if they were playing) destroying the Collectors would still be necessary.

In case it hasn't already been pointed out (I haven't read every page of the thread, only some of them), the PC Gamer folks didn't recognise Ashley, asking whether she was a new character or a Shepard variant. I'm not exactly filled with confidence about their other conclusions.

It would've been nice if all the renegade decisions didn't bite you in the ass.

yeah it would be nice . but Bioware clearly wantsthe paragon choice to be the only choice that matters . so really does Mass Effect have any player choice at all

I just noticed from looking at the PC Gamer article that they have a picture of Ashley and the caption says "New character, or Shepard variant?". I am beginning to doubt much of what this article says.

Why did you think it had to or was ever intended to be anything more than that?

Thank you!  She's my Hawke.  :)

But yes, to agree with some of the people who've posted on this page, I'm hoping for a more balanced approach to paragon and renegade.  I say this as a paragon player who mixes in some renegade choices when I believe they make more sense.  If it's a question of choosing an obviously right way vs. an obviously wrong way, it's no choice at all.  We want to play heroic badasses, not idiots.  Renegade choices should often be more efficient and effective at achieving mission goals (vs. paragon), but at a greater cost.  Sometimes, the price should be so high that only the most hardcore renegades are willing to pay it (or have others pay it for them), whereas at other times it should make sense for most logically-minded people (apart from those utterly unwilling to compromise) to pay it; we need variety, after all.  Personally, I think one of the best cases of a true paragon/renegade choice was the climactic decision of Bring Down the Sky.  Good reasons on both sides.  Price to pay on both sides too.  Just a different set of costs and benefits.
