How does it make Mass Effect 2's story unnecessary?
real simple the story in 2 is completely worthless . If the info in the mag is true then Bioware should just tell us ME 2 was a mere side quest . Because they turn Cerberus evil in 3 . When in 2 all TIM cares about is stopping the reapers and collectors . Something does not pass the logical smell test .
Cerberus has always been evil. He's interested in much more then stoppeing the Reapers. In fact the Reapers are a serious showstopper to his real ambition. He needs Shep to stop the Reapers so he can continue his plans for ultimate power for Cerberus. He get's all toughy-feely and smooth talks Shep with "Humanity this" and "Humanity that", but's it's all lip service to get Shep to help him. Suprised so many people bought his BS at face value and believed Cerberus is a complety changed organization now. My Shep will never forgive Cerberus for what happend at Acuze, what happend with Kahoku and his men, and everyone else who suffered from his f'ed up experiements for his f'ed up power trip he's on. From the moment my Paragon and Renagade Sheps blew that base, the hunt was on...for him that is. I'll chase him round the Moons of Nibia, and round the Antares Maelstrom, and round perdition's flames before I give him up! From hell's heart, I stab at thee. For hate's sake, I spit my last breath at thee.
OK, I feel better now. Have a nice day.

and I too am down for TIM pulling a "12 Monkeys" type take over! now that would make him the ULTIMATE evil...on par with the Reapers...just far more sinister.

It seems to me that the result of whether you were unfaithful to your ME1 love interest could result in them refusing to work with you on a permanent basis.
So what?
-If you weren't faithful, that will come to a head at the worst possible time
How can, not having them as a permanent squadmember, justify the previous statement?
I see something along the lines of them being given a crucial mission and losing it coz you dont have their loyalty as a resault of cheating on them..which could affect the war itself...
Just thinking out loud here.....
Eh? I was mostly riffing off the fact that just previous to their mention of the worst happening they were talking about them being a member of your crew. As I said, I was speculating.
Quote: "If you coupled up in Mass Effect 1 and your partner is still alive, they're guaranteed to be a member of your crew. If you weren't faithful to them in Mass Effect 2 - and 70% of people weren't - that's going to come to a head at the worst possible time."
Hence my speculation that they are hinting that they are only guaranteed to be a perma crewmate if you were faithful. Who knows, maybe at the start you have the option of owning up or keeping it a secret and picking up where you left off. Those who do the latter might have it bite them in the bum later in the game. *shrugs* They said in the same article that loyalty is out in ME3, so unless a similar dynamic is left in just for this dynamic I can't see it being that simple. Also, them losing a mission because you cheated on them? Really?
Edit: Well I guess maybe not. If they are not just not going to work with you out of spite and rather just are not sticking with you out of loyalty when they could be doing other things. I don't think thats what they are hinting at tho.
Personally I don't get the whole 'cheating' thing.
As far as I am aware, the behaviour from ash on Horizon was a girl dumping her boyfriend. One she hadn't seen in 2 years even. Moving on afterwards from that point isn't cheating.
Liara: Was dealt with already in Lair of the shadowbroker. They want to cook more soup on a dead bone or what?
Kaidan: No clue I admit. I never romanced him, and I always left him on Virmire. So he is in the open as far as I know, I guess.
This whole talk of 'cheating' sounds like pisspoor writing and lack of ability to relate to real human social interactions.

I shall make all my conclusions about ME3 right now, based on that... article.
It's the smartest way to go about it afterall.

i dont get what you mean by real human social interactions in regards to cheating. if Bioware makes it so you have to converse IN GAME with that character....and they handle it in a way that leaves you uncomfortable AND ALLOWS a few options on how to deal with things....then it would work. If they gave you limited conversation and the choice of welcome abroad my love so VS is fine with you or welcome abroad i dont like you that way anymore so VS hates you... then i dont think it work...BUT THAT TOO is not far-fetched IRL social interactions.
So long as we are given Options and choices WITHOUT being pigeonholed...it can work

And the "real human social interactions" can be summed up easily in one scenario?
Well if you read the email... the Virmire Survivor appologizes and basically says they overreacted. Shepard was dead for two years they had time to move on with their life. Shepard on the otherhand, it may only feel like weeks for him. Waking from a coma does some crazy things so Shep's feelings could still be very strong. It wasn't two years for Shepard to get over them. I'd hate to meet your ex's if you cheat on them immedietly after a break-up. No second chances? No....I'll wait for you to come around? Bioware is actually giving us two maybe three very different scenarios. Liara was summed back up in Shadow Broker, apparently willing to rekindle the flame. Ash and Kayden may be different. So far it seems they both needed more time to process everything. Bioware is being pretty mature about it.... I mean they could have had them pull Shepard into a pre-fab for a survivor's guilt romp.

No, seriously, it's true. Plot-forced mindrape by her, gets called 'beautiful' in Genesis, plot armor and a DLC in ME2, squadmate in next game. Not sure to count that she can be romanced by both genders, but still.

Tali/Garrus: ME1 + ME2 + ME3 squadmate
Liara: ME1 + ME3 squadmate
Mhmm, I see your point.

I'm perplexed at why so many people got hung up on that. Noting that she's physically attractive, well, she kind of is whether you like her or not. "Art appreciation," as Kaiden would say. It's kind of a trait shared by pretty much every Asari ever.
That said, Liara has been shown a lot of favor by the developers.

In all seriousness guys, we need to see more before we judge. At least wait until more official info is given. Sheesh.

*SPOILERS*
As shown by her large role in ME1 (without her knowledge of the Protheans parts of the plot couldn't have advanced) and her role in retrieving Shepard's body and in LotSB Liara is one of the more important characters to the Mass Effect story. This isn't favouritism as some here seem quick to brand it; some characters are by necessity just more essential to the plot than others. She's was given 'plot armour' because she still has an important role to play in ME3. Not every character recieves the same level of attention because they're just not as important. Every story has a few key characters and lots of smaller characters, which add to the story to varying degrees but aren't essential.
Specifically regarding Liara I'd argue that few characters apart from Shepard have been as important to the story, but discussing why may well verge off topic so I'll save that for now.
