Reading the new PC gamer article about it states that if you saved the collector base at the end of ME2 you're now "helping the enemy"(cerberus). So basically the obvious choice now is to destroy it, claiming the moral and startegic victory.

I always got the impression in ME2 that the choice was the obvious Bioware one. Choose the easy path and get the cool tech and maybe save more people at the cost of evil things happening (eg collector tech gets in wrong hands) against destroying it, being moral, but sacrificing a possible advantage later on.

So now in all my future playthroughs of ME2 I'm just going to always destroy it, as there's no upside to keeping it...

edit: less spoilery title

There may be a benefit to keeping it. For example, let's say you break into TIM's office. If you saved the base, there is a very convenient pile of research waiting for you and an anti-indoctrination device or something that may actually wind up saving someone's life.

If you destroyed it... no goodies for you.

From a meta-gaming standpoint there seems to be no point in sacrificing the council in ME1 and sadly it looks like there might be no point in saving the CB either.
