What are the most divisive characters in any fandom?

When it comes to games, I think Alistair from Dragon Age: Origins has divided the BioWare community. You either think he's a whiny bastard or you're those fangirls that make overly-erotic fanfiction starring Alistair and their Mary Sue. Anders is also on the same level of divisiveness. Other lesser divisive characters would be: Lohgain, Morrigan, Leliana, and to some extent, the Qunari in general.
Then we get to the Assassin's Creed series, where we have Desmond Miles. Really, it all comes back to whether you like the post-modern times setting or not.
Let's not forget Darth Revan, from the KOTOR series, who's attracted haters because of how revered he is by his fanboys. So people hate him for pretty much the same reason people hate Justin Bieber. Ironically, Darth Vader is this to an extent due to the fact that he's "weak" and "pathetic". Luke Skywalker is becoming a divisive character because people are upset he turned into a "Gary Stu", supposedly, in the EU after ROTJ. Boba Fett gets a lot of flak from haters for being overrated.
For Star Trek, it's Kirk and Picard. Nuff said.
Jack Marston from Red Dead Redemption. I think it's because people missed John and hated how he got replaced. Also, Jack's voice.
The Brotherhood of Steel from the Fallout series due to their questionable actions at times.
Wolverine is a common subject amongst X-men fanatics.
And being a fan of A Song of Ice and Fire, and a lurker of the forum centered around the series, it's Catelyn, Sansa, Daenerys, and Jon Snow.

Considering my experiences on this forum so far, I'm going to vote for Tali. Talimancers, Tali haters, there's clear issues between people over that character.
Meh dunno if that counts we pretty much have issues on everything here, its like a nut house in need of a riot team. (more moderation)
Anyways I'll add some on a new post or a edit to keep this on topic in a bit.

I like Alistair. Sure, he's a whiny bastard! That's part of his charm. He also has strangely preppy hair for a fantasy setting, but who am I to judge...
Loghain is likeable, once you get past the whole, "Oh, no, I'm just trying to save my country by indirectly killing the king, causing civil war, and being Mr. Howe's little ****." I mean that with all sincerity.
Morrigan can never be slapped enough, the nihilistic, arrogant little ****.
Han Solo can be rather divisive...he's either the swashbuckling anti-hero, or the chauvinistic swine.

I like to think of him as a swashbuckling chauvinist anti-hero swine.

Morrigan I didn't mind, infact she amused me. Even her disaproval amused me.
I don't get the Luke Skywalker hate, he is the most powerful force user thats ever lived and in his time period theres no one better with a lightsaber, kinda because he taught most of them how to use one in the first place. He has been occassionally overly powerful though which can get a bit annoying. But I don't see how he can suddenly be a Mary Sue when he is the head of the Jedi order so kinda has to be the main man.
Godak summed up Jack Marston perfectly.
Tali I don't hate the character but I hate the feeling she is only there to appease a vocal minority who quite frankly freak me out.
I think you can throw most Final Fantasy characters on this list too.

I'll say Naoki/Cain from Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor, knowing that Cain killed Abel (and considering the protaganist is his reincarnation...) it wasn't that surprising that he would try to kill him, again though fail, in the Messiah route. But for the Bel route, he is "the cousin/bro that got your back" beside Atsuro when the original party members practically leave you, but won't stand in your way, if you go against God. He didn't even twist the protaganist's intentions at all, though something with him seems off. However he isn't much of an enemy nor ally in the other four routes of the game, more like an observer who seems interested by the choices you have the protaganist make.
Then there is Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne... the character development in that one make Loghain seems like the good guy: "mass genocide" (you can take part of that, talking about that, you can kill 100 million people in Armored Core: For Answer during one mission along with a complete monster Old King, but he considers your protaganist the only friend he enjoyed if you take the Destruction Path) "human sacrifice", "becoming demons themselves in the world that every human is dead" etc, etc.

Galen about being more overpowered compared to Luke, enough said. Then again, I did like the guy, and I still like Luke.

Luke is more overpowered the Galen, trust me. Speaking of other divisive Star Wars characters, Ahsoka(more recently) and Jacen Solo are pretty divisive as well, though they don't start as many arguments as Revan.

True. Wait, what? I hardly been around the community but there are arguments involving Revan?

Half the BG2 led to division. Jaheira and Aerie were probably the worst offenders. Especially Aerie--good lord Aerie. >.< Vico is a character people either love or love to hate. Bastila was another, as was Aribeth. I still remember those endless Aribeth discussions on the old NWN boards. Bishop is yet another. Unsurprisingly love interests are often frequently debated.
Drizzt Do'Urden has a legion of fans and haters too.

I agree with the Captain. Luke when he is being overpowered dwarfs Galen. Galen was like raw force power, Luke had even more power and is always in complete control of it. I don't mind him being overpowered to a degree like I said he is the head of the Jedi order and the most powerful force user ever so he should be written that way, but sometimes they go way too far with it and it feels like theres no threat at all because Luke can fix everything from across the galaxy with his mind. They usually have a happy medium with him though.
I didn't realise there were people who like Ahsoka.

Superman, actually. He's an icon and many love him, but just as many dislike him for his boy scoutyness in specific incarnations and his supposed overpoweredness (his power set gets misrepresented a lot and people thinks he's the strongest in the DCU).
I have been on both sides of the issue, currently a fan though.

Kreia (KotOR2): Wise but treacherous mentor; or irritating old bat?
Brotherhood of Steel (specifically in Fallout 3): Justifiably changing their attitude with the times and circumstances; or traitors to the BoS cause and the Fallout legacy?
The Architect (Dragon Age): A visionary, a misguided fool or an evil genius?

Ah, but how many people dislike Carth due to his personality, and how many people (like me) dislike Carth because the game forces his backstory on to us in the most horrible way ever?

Personally, both. I don't like the 'tragic backstory' type of Love Interest character anyway, so I admit to being biased against him from the start. But damn, every time he started whinging about something I wanted to punch him in the face. Though I get your point. Hamfisted storytelling can certainly turn one against a character.
