Personally, I couldn't get through KOTOR because every character would just pour their hearts out to me at the most inopportune moments.

 I remember feeling nonplussed at that. Really, Bastila? You think now is a good time?

That was more of a problem in BG2, where Aerie would suddenly start sobbing about her wings when you were about to attack Firkraag.

For DAII, there seems to be a lot of divisiveness over Isabela (and for the record, I'm pro-pirate all the way).

Going back to my fanatical TV-viewing, I remember a lot of back and forth regarding Xena and Gabrielle - people preferring the grim hero with a dark past on the road to redemption, or young ingenue who molds herself into a formidable warrior. Also, from the BtVS universe, Angel...the character and the show. Lots of devout fans or bitter enemies there.

 Jason Todd from DC comics.

I'm in agreement with this one. I think part of it is the fact that he's been written well AND poorly depending on the writer & Title.
Sticking to DC, I'd have to add Damien Wayne to the List. A lot of readers don't get the darker twist on the "Light-Hearted" Robin persona they're going for.

Heh, yes. I have a vivid recollection of a messenger coming to find Anomen to tell him about his sister's death while we were in the Underdark. Aside from the phenomenal skill of said messenger being able to navigate through the Underdark alone and unarmed when my entire party of seasoned heroes was getting regularly wiped out, we were also disguised as drow, so this guy had some hot recognition skills. Of course, Anomen then went ape and legged it back to the surface, leaving me without a healer for the rest of the Underdark trip. Hmph. <_<

Anomen could count as being pretty divisive, maybe. A very well written character and the best healer in the game on the one hand, but a pompous, confrontational and very judgemental personality on the other.

I don't dislike Carth any more than I dislike Bastila. Just acknowledge that I saved you!

I don't get the Luke Skywalker hate, he is the most powerful force user thats ever lived and in his time period theres no one better with a lightsaber, kinda because he taught most of them how to use one in the first place. He has been occassionally overly powerful though which can get a bit annoying.

.

Galen about being more overpowered compared to Luke, enough said. Then again, I did like the guy, and I still like Luke.

Edit: Oh fu- I double posted...

Luke is more overpowered the Galen, trust me. Speaking of other divisive Star Wars characters, Ahsoka(more recently) and Jacen Solo are pretty divisive as well, though they don't start as many arguments as Revan.

It took me a while to figure out who Galen was lol.

I agree with the Captain. Luke when he is being overpowered dwarfs Galen. Galen was like raw force power, Luke had even more power and is always in complete control of it. I don't mind him being overpowered to a degree like I said he is the head of the Jedi order and the most powerful force user ever so he should be written that way, but sometimes they go way too far with it and it feels like theres no threat at all because Luke can fix everything from across the galaxy with his mind. They usually have a happy medium with him though.

I didn't realise there were people who like Ahsoka.

I use to go to the TOR forum at the Star Wars General discussion sub-forum and there was a poll that asked how many people like her or whether people changed their minds about her. According to the poll, there were about 90-something people that disliked her and 100-something people that liked her. If you ask me, I neither dislike nor like her. But at least people aren't as annoyed with her as they were when the TCW movie came out back in 2008.

Exceedingly so, I thought. I remember all the debates over his character that essentially amounted to "Anomen is kind of a dick" and "Anomen starts off as kind of a dick, but becomes is sweet once the romance gets going." I vaguely recall David Gaider eventually giving up after the discussion raged on a good while. At least everyone can agree he is the best cleric in the game. Right? Right? :o Probably not. :pinched:

I sort of see Damien as a new Jason, people like him or hate him but for me it is all how he is written so far I am fine with him.

Definitely.

I also think that Tingle, from the Legend of Zelda series, is a divisive character. Japan loves him, whereas he's loathed and despised in the West.

In agreement with the above. And to add...

Kirby. Some people hate him, others love him.

Though also from the Land of the Rising Sun. Birdo...WHAT IS IT?

EDIT typo.

There's way more Talimancers than haters. But she does seem to be you either love her or hate her. I can't stand her.

One that I recently found out that people actually like De Santa from Red Dead Redemption..... The guy who used you for a good portion of the game in Mexico. Only to have you killed then tried to weasel his way out and overthrow his own leader.... The guy is a sniveling little ****** and I find out he has a huge following. Why?

I'd say Jericho from the "DRIVER" series.

I'm not very well connected to the Stargate fanbase, but it seems they're pretty divided over Claudia Black's character, Vala.

She was host to a Goa'uld who then was freed of its presence. Her personaility was like that of a "treasure grabber" which often put the team into dire situations. Making it hard not to want her to stay behind but her being "linked" to Daniel for many episodes made it impossible to leave her behind or risk his death (and he was often needed on the team) this was unbearable for some of the team including Daniel (at least until near the end of the series).

I know all about her, I watched the show. I was just commenting that it seems fans either love her or hate her.

I'm pretty sure it's more of a case where it's either "You totally love her" or "You don't really care, but her fanbase forces you to indirectly hate her" .

I'm in the latter group. SG-1 wasn't that good after season 7 or 8 I think (pretty much after Anderson left) and having Vala forced on the team only made it a million times worse. Not only is the character ridiculously childish and selfish it also makes no sense whatsoever that she and Daniel share an "attraction for each other".

Was Sha're anything like Vala? Was that destroyer-of-worlds-in-disguise-whatshername anything like Vala? Was that princess of the mining planet where Daniel was exposed to the use of sarcophagus over-and-over again anything like Vala?

No, none of them were. And suddenly he is attracted to a character who is everything but caring, selfless and sweet. To add more injury to insult, Ben Browder's talents weren't taken adventage of, at all. Claudia Black could've done a lot better too as anyone but Vala. There were some points in latter episodes that dealt with the Ori where Vala seemed at least close to a clear-headed somewhat normal person. But it didn't last. Sadly.

Would be nice to watch & post some examples but cba to skim through the 10000000000 Vala/Daniel ship music vids :pinched:

Anomen from BG2 is a good example as well. Just played around in BG2 only a couple of weeks ago and as time has passed, the character doesn't feel as bad as it did years ago when I was more um...intolerant so to speak. Still, the first few lines of dialogue about his superior, pure and radiant Order are pretty blergh.
