my money is on Portal 2.

I haven't tried it yet, but is it really that awesome, even though the game is so short compared to a game like Skyrim which can last hundreds or thousands of hours for a single playthrough?

I want to try it, but it seems like it is incredibly short with limited replay value.

Quality over quantity.  Portal 2 is near perfect in its design, both gameplay and story, and especially art direction.  Skyrim looks good, but it wil lalso sufer the inevitable "wandering for hours over pretty but ultimately meaningless and somewhat dull landscape"  Also, Bethesda games usually have some truly awful voice acting, which hurst more than youd think.  Not that Skyrim wont bet better than Portal 2 mind you, but there are certainly ways a much longer game can  be a worse game.

DAO: ~150 hrs (including DLC)
DA2: ~25.0 hrs (vanilla version, without DLC)
FO3: 120-150 hrs (GOTY, including DLC)
FNV:  ~250 hrs (without DLC)
Oblivion: over 500 hrs (GOTY, with mods)
Morrowind: probably over 200 hrs
Civ4: over 300 hrs
Civ5: 200-300 hrs

Actually, Oblivion did have some pretty good voice actors. You see, it wasn't the quality of the voice-actors per se, but the fact that they only used five in an open-world game.

I was referring to the level design, not the voice acting.

LOL, no actually DA2 provided much, much longer playthroughs than DAO, at least for me.

The combat in DA2 on nightmare is pretty difficult. I've seen some youtube tutorials and I know some people can play without pausing but for me the only way to get through Nightmare is constant pausing and controlling every single action of all of the party members at the same time. Nightmare in DAO was a joke because you could spam cheap healing potions to get through anything, so there was not enough challenge or tactical thinking involved.

First playthrough - about 130 hrs, beginning of Act 3. Stopped in order to help beta test Patch 1.02

2nd playthrough - about 110 hrs, still in the early part of Act 2.

I will probably start one more playthrough after I finish the second one, total time probably around 250 - 300 hours for this game. If it weren't for the poorly executed fetch quests and the transformation of loot into worthless junk, I would probably like DA2 more than DAO.

As it stands, it's kind of hard to compare them because they are so different. I suppose I like them about the same, maybe in different ways, but DA2 provides much more playing time, which counts for something in my view.

And I was replying to Archdemon Cthulu's post about the quality of voice-acting in Bethesda games.

But apperantly the story went over my head because I'm too stupid to think this game is GOTY worthy.

Your self awareness does you credit.

You're inablitiy to sense sarcasm does you no credit.

I was hoping for an epic showdown between Skyrim and ME3, respect to an old franchise, or a newer one that has the youngest audience.

Since ME3 got the restraint to next year; the game I'll go with is one that no one has mentioned still I hope it gets it.
As a fan of this series (All games that made it to the PC I have played.)
I choose:
DRIVER: SAN FANCISCO

Tanner is back.
We're done here..........

Something funny I noticed: almost every game on OP's list is a sequal. Something to consider. Beyond that I'm betting on Skyrim, although I, myself, am more excited about Rage and Deus Ex. Portal 2 might be up there as well. Arkham city might also be up there, if it's as good as it looks.

Hopefully SW:TOR will be MMO of the year. Sadly, I am not the MMO type, so I won't play it, but it would be a great loss to Bioware if it flopped.

Skyrim's environment will be the most detailed ever, with several new technologies monitoring environmental, weather and lighting effects. There will be much more to do than in Oblivion, towns will be more lively, and of course dungeon crawling is back. There are Ruins, Caves, Forts and Mines scattered all over Oblivion, well over 150. Ten people are working on dungeons this time, compared to two in Oblivion, so there will be much more diversity in appearance and atmosphere. Also, over 80 voice actors have been hired for NPC's, which will keep the repitoire more fresh.

Oblivion was amazing despite its flaws. People criticize Skyrim based off Oblivion and have no idea how immensely evolved Skyrim will be.

And what you don't seem to realise is that Skyrim isn't to be released till november and you have no idea how good Skyrim will actually be.

It's the future, kay? And unless you have a time machine, threads like this are useless. Unless it said: What is the game of the year SO FAR.
