If it were possible to edit the ini file from in-game, it'd be easy to make a new slider, but I don't think you can. However, it might be that GUI callbacks from earlier versions exist which would allow a custom GUI to change the settings... I might look into this.

The trick to getting obsidian, ( or bioware, etc. ) implementing a change, is not just griping or whining about the issue, but basically providing a solution which will just work without them having to think to much about it. The problem with the camera is no one liked it, but no one ever could fix it.

I strongly suspect that obsidian would still like to protect their reputation with a swansong patch since most of their fixes were mostly done prior to that lawsuit, but this is going to take money to distribute, and Atari/Hasbro would have to sign off on it, and it likely would have to be finished by interns or staff on quite a bit of their own time. ( Or perhaps with Grinning Fool/Skywing helping out ).

But there are two issues. The controls and sliders don't really work, and they've already spent too much time fixing things there, so for them to touch it again would require how they "should" work be defined in depth in a way which is simpler, or even allowing some simple presets ( ie a menu item that says "just like NWN1" for example ).

The second issue is the defaults. Most players who understand the ini file, and the graphics options can get those settings how they want them. I spent a good week getting it perfect, then i accidentally zapped it and it ended up being wonky again, and i just never have wanted to get it working right again. I know most folks have preferences, but the out of the box initial settings are NEVER what anyone wants. We need it so those who don't go into settings have something which is tolerable, less edge turning at least.

We might be able to come up with a standalone application which stores defaults which you can apply, and which makes it possible to adjust the various settings in a easier manner. This would have to be run by itself prior to using the game, but if it's presets were decent ( and it allowed end users to save their settings and put them on the vault and put those out as presets for others to use. ) The folks at Obsidian would be able to look at those and the app and do any changes based on that.

Regardless if folks complain, we could instead of explaining how it works, we could say here is a link to an app you can download that fixes the settings for you.

That sounds like the character (?) camera mode. Exploration is the best mode by far, but I believe it was introduced with SoZ, so maybe you need it to use that mode. The first time I played (exploration didn't exist by then), I used strategy mode.

I don't have SoZ, and I have exploration mode.  I simply turned screen edge turning off, since even trying to select things on the hotbars, or clicking a char would turn the camera into a high speed merry go round.

The only real issue that I have with the camera is all the bouncing around during dialogs that involve more than just the PC/NPC initiating the dialogs.  Not really an issue, but it sure can make you dizzy in non cutscene dialogs.

Oh and once again kevL, thanks for the information on how to fix the camera. As I said before, it's improved it.

hey, yer welcome, EJ.

I really think the trick, is setting the min_max values closer together (so the graduations on the sliders is finer) and, mainly, setting Edge_Turn_Current in the nwn2player.ini (MyDocs) itself,

(just rehashing here ..)

ps. Pain has a good point about coding a little app that writes the .ini automagically. the hard part wouldn't be the app, it seems; it would be doing the research to find out all the settings & installation configurations possible ...

You can also free-rotate the camera with the middle mouse button held (i.e. move the mouse and the camera moves, it's like grabbing and yoinking the camera, a lot of games use the right mouse button for this). This is also too sensitive, I think, so it's worth setting that lower in the ini too (I personally don't use it much, but it's nice to be able to).

hey Fred,
that'd be the Mouse_Turn parameter. Get this :) since i use my left hand on the arrow keys I've remapped MouseLook to the Delete key just above. used to have End as Inspection, but recently decided to remove Inspection from my keyboard altogether! End is now Pause, etc.

yer right, it is too sensitive .. until its set more proper in the .ini, slow it down as much as ya want even to a crawl
