No. But with Planescape Torment? I can't look at that ending anymore without crying.

Hawke should of been renamed "Batman" as I seemed to spend most of my time clearing the streets at night of wrongdoers. While at it give him a mask and cape. :)

Then I take it Anders is the 'boy wonder'?

Well if I was using superman as reference then I could apply the Hawke 'Clark Kent~Superman' and Anders 'Lex Luther'. As it has been many, many years since I saw batman (both cartoons, old tv show and movies) I cannot say who Anders would be in that series.

Fix'd. They're both as obnoxious and stupid.

DA2, which I enjoyed, was more like watching a train wreck in slow motion, hence hard to get emotionally attached to. The ending dialog between the Seeker and Leliana gave the definite impression we were only at the beginning of a much longer story arc so what I was left with was wondering if Bioware would in fact complete the story arc.

Yes, I wonder that myself..

And about crying at the end? not really, I was very very upset about it. Hopefully they'll do something to change the frustration, anger, rage, desillusion that people have towards the game. If you make a book or game that only give this type of feelings, then it is not a "good" book or game.

The Negativity feedback, acts as a warning signal that tells them to
moderate or stop what they are doing and to redress the course.

Tears? No. Both DAO and DA2 had my emotions going, but not as far as to make me cry. And it was precisely the situations where I felt I had no control that produced the strongest response.

In DAO, Alistair's heroics in the end; and to a lesser extent, all Anora's appearances, I hateed her guts so much.

In DA2, there was this whole segment of endgame from the moment Anders hinted he was about to do something stupid. I didn't know what, and feared it would be something suicidal. It put me in such a state of apprehension I had trouble sleeping. :)

*shudder* Bane from Batman and Robin, what did they do to you in that film?  Hopefully the Bane in the upcoming Batman will manage to wipe that stain clear

Indeed. As a longtime Batman fangirl, I just couldn't bear the atrocity of THAT Bane. Batman: AA, which was an excellent portrayal of the Batman mythos, did that as well. Why?! Nolan better have the real Bane in there, or I swear...

Did I shed any tears? Heck yes! Tears of laughter! The moment I finished my first (and last) playthrough, I realized that I'd wasted $70 on software, but gained access to over $700 worth of laughs from the user reactions. If EA really were as business savvy as they make themselves out to be, they'd give away DA2 for $1, and then charge $100 per month for access to these forums - especially the epic "Moticational Pictures' thread (now sadly locked). There was also at least a month of hilarity RPGCodex and Gamefaqs forums. Had tears streaming down my eyes from the Silverman "button awesome" interview too. If laughter is the best medicine, then BIOware should really go into the healthcare business. I'll buy DA3 just for this again! Bring on 2012!

Ah, I like the way you think! Motivational Pictures thread had me laughing so hard. Helped coping a lot. :)
I'll skip the buying-DA3 bit though, I guess. ;)

I shed tears when I realized I purchased a $60 spin-off.

Bioware, all of your "subjective" gameplay improvements are meaningless if I do not care about the story or setting. Please put more effort and resources into the plot for DA3.

Well, maybe I cried a little on the inside, but only a little bit.

Don't tell anyone. I'll lose street cred at the next roost.

Oh god yes. That's real lump in the throat stuff. Great game, but so downbeat I really couldn't play it more than twice (with a long gap between plays).

I found KotOR II really depressing too (and not because of the cut content and massacred ending - just because it's such a downer of a game) and had to stop playing it because it was really affecting my mood.
I don't mind catharsis in a game (or movie) but I don't want to end up depressed.

The (original) end of Fallout 3 made me sniffle in a good way - especially when you get the ending slides and see the childhood photo of the Lone Wanderer with dad. It's actually a shame that got changed with the addition of Broken Steel.

Much love and feather'd hugs being sent your way.

In all honestly it's been awhile since I've become emotional enough over a game scene to actually cry over it. Closest in recent years is a certain death scene in The Darkness.

And Sephiroth stabbing Aeris through with a sword, but getting upset over that was practically mandatory for 13 year old boys everywhere.

^This.

I enjoy having my emotions played with, as long as there is some positive to go along with it. And I don't want the overwhelming take-away feeling to be " good god, my pc's life sucks.  There was never any hope and everyone is stupid and why did I bother paying to get professionally depressed? "

Why?

Well, why not?  I play games to get away from my life, not recreate a world 10x worse than my own to make mine somehow seem so much better in all its drudgery normalcy. lol  I *enjoy* having tear jerking *moments* in games, just not having completely depressing games with some decent moments.  I guess what I am saying is, it is a delicate balance.  If the writers feel that negative emotion means they did their jobs well.... well, fair enough.  But when the fans say " I don't like that game. It was depressing." that is fair too.  And THAT particular fair may influence a willingness to pay money in the future to continue that depressing story line.    So, in the end, I think the balance SHOULD way more heavily to the side of "pleasure" rather than pain.

After all, we can't even get substantial nudity in a game, why start with S/M?   :P

"You will suffer! And you someone will like it!"

:o

Actually, I was more upset during the ending of Crisis Core. The way Zack passed away in it was far more emotional than FFVII. Zack was far more awesome than that whiny emo Cloud.Posted Image

I made a sadface when I sacrificed my Warden in DAO.

DA2's ending evoked more of a... wtfwasthatface.

Don't hurt me, but Cloud never bothered me. Squall did. But yeah, Crisis Core had a great ending. Tiny PSP screen did not do it justice.

Once let the Warden die at the end, but that was only to put that character out of its misery.

IMPO, Zack is the only likeable FF protagonist, aside from Zidane.

Actually in my case, DA2 is more emotional. my warden manages to keep every companions alive (include Loghain) and have a good romance ending with Morrigan. so there is no need to shed tears.
In DA2 I saddened at Leandra's death, but this in turn shows how ugly DA2 is. they dont even try to design a plot for the player who want to save everyone
