First, I searched the forum and could not find any topic related to this - so my apologies if this topic is redundant.
I Googled how to enable the Developer Console but I am having a problem getting my DA2 short cut to accept the "enable developer console" string.
I am running DA 2 on Vista Home - 64
So I created a short cut from the "bin_ship" folder (see below).
Opened the shortcut via properties "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Dragon Age 2\\bin_ship\\DragonAge2.exe"
I then added the string - enabledeveloperconsole as instructed to the above.
Then hit "Apply" - which then created an error message - smething like "invalid target" or something. Hitting "OK" brings up the same error message.
So, can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?
I have already changed the .ini file to use the "tilde" key.
I am sure I am doing something stupid and obviously wrong - but I can't seem to figure this out and decided to publically plead for help - though it hurts my manly pride.
Thanks in advance - I have always found the folks in this forum to be really patient and helpful.

Are you using the Steam, EADM, or DVD based version?

Thanks for the response - should have put that in my description.
Mea culpa...
I am using the DVD based version, updated to the latest patch.

If you are using the DVD version, create a shortcut from \\Dragon Age 2\\bin_ship\\DragonAge2.exe
In the "Target:" line, it should read as
(YourDrivePath:)\\Dragon Age 2\\bin_ship\\DragonAge2.exe" -enabledeveloperconsole
There is a space in between the " and -enabledeveloperconsole
You should not get a fail to locate target after doing this.
Go back to your INI and change the open console key back to "Grave". "Tilde" or ` will not work. The game sees the tilde key as Grave.
One more note: The dev console is invisible you will not see anything on the screen while turning it on and typing in commands.

Ok, I am officially an idiot, with poor eye-sight and abominable reading comprehension skills - (not a surprise to those who know me...)
My problem was that when I pasted in the "enabledeveloperconsole" I was doing it WITHIN the quotation marks for the Target DA2.exe. I just changed the -enabledeveloperconsole to outside the quotation marks and it accepted it without a problem.
My apologies to anyone and everyone for wasting their time.
I have to go now, there are people at the door offering to take me to school.in a really shiney Short Bus ..

Are you logged into an administrator account? It sounds like the problem is with Windows Vista. I really hate the Vista/7 user management system.
edit: and I detailed out the process again more as a way to confirm that you did it correctly.

Ok, in case anyone is still reading this painful description of my ineptitude - in changing the INI file - I tried "tilde" and ~ but as Sunnie said above, neither seemed to work.
So for my next stupid question - what is "Grave?" Is that a key or another name for the Tilde key?
Thanks

Grave is what the game recognizes as Tilde.
it should read: OpenConsole_0=Keyboard::Button_Grave
This has been working for me since day 1, though I have seen reports from some folks who also had to ad a binding to the secondary bind, OpenConsole_1=(UNASSIGNED).

I've had to re-install DA2, and this time around I just can't seem to get the console to work! I've done everything, exactly as I did before but it just wouldn't activate!
(Changed keybindings file, xml file and shortcur switch)
I've also tried different activation keys. Previously I got it working with Ctrl+x, but this time around, not key works...
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I would have thought that someone would have come up with a script or something to make the job easier? Is there anything like that available anywhere?

Just a little side-note.
Make sure you have full control in the administer setting(s), otherwise you will not be able to overwrite the settings.
For some reason, it wasn't already set like that on my first attempt, so I don't know if it was just the factory setting, or not, with my PC.
