Seriously, though, I like it too. In fact I'm gonna go so far as to say that as long as ME1 is still exists, it's not the weakest BioWare game I've played.

Or, at least, that's how I always put it.
Anyway, though I do not like the game, I'm still compelled to replay it. Just because I like some of the characters. But that's about it.
Oh, and I like to dream about what it could've been.

Don't tell anyone, but I never played Baldur's Gate. Ohhhh, the heresy!!! I always sacrifice a beer on the altar of the Gaming Gods during Wintereenmas to make up for it.

Is it better then ME1 or2...NO...Is it better then DA.....No....Is it better then Witcher.....NO.....Is it better then Neverwinter Nights 1,2,3.........No. But I am playin it for the 3rd time and still find the story interesting and continue to find or confront things I have not in the other game. Not the greatest, but enjoyable. Just an opinion.
Well that's just because you're an idiot. Oh and not a true RPG fan. In fact, you may just be responsible for the destruction of the RPG genre in general. Bastard. Die slowly.
On a more serious note, I agree, I like it too.

Probably a good attitude. Taken for what it is, it's flawed, but still a fairly enjoyable game. The problem was, being a sequel, people's expectations were understandably set by the preceeding game - which in this case was exceptionally good.
I always have a hard time understanding why having those expectations is considered by many as being "immature" and "wanting too much". If I pay $10.00 for a movie ticket or $25.00 for a book and don't like it I can complain until I'm blue in the face and nobody says I have a sense of entitlement. If I pay $60.00 for a game I don't like and complain about it then I'm just some virgin gamer that lives in his parent's basement that spends his days dowloading porn and my complaints are casually dismissed. I don't get it.
Say I am a fan of The Godfather. Then The Godfather 2 is released but instead of the Godfather 2 script that we all know, they use the script to Analize This. While I have nothing against Analyze this, when you stamp Godfather 2 on the movie poster and give me Analyze This it is not what I was expecting and if I wanted to rage about it I'd have a lot of support. However that logic that applies to most other mediums doesn't seem to carry over into video games. Because of the steriotypes attached to gamers and the perception that videogames aren't really art, videogames and gamers have this stigma attached that they are not to be taken seriously. All this while books and movies (while equally frivilous in society) are considered serious business.
I don't think it is a good attitude. If this were any other medium we wouldn't be having this debate and the game would be unacceptable. I have no qualms about people who enjoyed the game as I have said that the game is mediocre and not horrible in and of itself. However when you stamp a 2 on your box after the name then there is a standard that you have to meet (or at least try to meet) or else it is a failure. That is the cost of putting that 2 (or II) there. The benefit is that you will have pre-generated hype for the people that loved the first one. If this game was named anything else, like Dragon Age: Hawke or whatnot then I would let it slide. Once you put that 2 in the title though, it WILL be compared to its predessor and it is more than fair to do so. Any other medium would have that expectation.

I think what s/he means is that Final Fantasy X was not a sequel of IX, which was not a sequel of XIII, etc. In that series, the number doesn't mean sequel, it means "next game, not really having anything to do with the prior game."

Pardon me, MGD2, but I think this is what you are looking for:
sarcasm
sahr-kaz-uh
m - 1. harsh or bitter derision or irony.
2. a sharply ironical taunt; sneering or cutting remark: a review full of sarcasms.
I think the caps-lock is a dead giveaway.

Final Fantasy is a game series where the majority of the games are numbered; however, none of the games have anything to do with the other. The characters, setting and game mechanics are usually quite different, but you hardly ever hear people complain that FF2 sucks because it wasn't like FF1 or FF9 was terrible because it wasn't like FF8. There is no real expected standard, especially when FF7 is usually considered the best in the series (I prefer FF4 and FF6 myself). However, you are saying that very fact of numbering the game changes the way you perceive it and that all games with said numbers must be scrutinized with what came before. Personally, I find this silly and believe that most forms of media should stand on their own merit without having to placate fans of the previous submission.

And I made a point that the video game community holds itself to different (and lower) standards that other mediums and that gamers allow it to happen. I don't see how this is in opposition to what I am saying. In fact if anything it reinforces what I am saying where it is accepted practice to cash in on your games previous success by just titling your next game in the same genre by using the same name and the next roman numeral.
In all fairness to Square Enix, they didn't participate in this practice to sell games to unsuspecting people who otherwise wouldn't buy them as they kept their quality of games up for a significant time. However the fact that the games are non serialized is not really relavent aside from the fact that in the movie industry it is only low grade movies that engage in this practice. The drop in game quality is the point. Take my example of the script of the Godfather 2 being switched out with the script for Analyze this. Even if Robert DeNiro's character was made into Michael Corleone and Al Pichino played him, there would still be a significant drop in quality between the Godfather and the Godfather 2 despite the series still being serialized.

However, the drop in game quality has nothing to do with the game's label. It has to do with a killer development cycle coupled by a rather ambitious attempt at altering core mechanics. You said yourself that you would "let it slide" if the game was called something else. That's stupid. The game should be evaluated on its own merit and not in comparison to Origins because it, much like the games in the Final Fantasy franchise, is not a direct sequel.
