*sighs* Why did Cerberus have to become black and white again?

We've been founding Empires for thousands of years too and we also have 3000 years to expand and grow.

The best one being that Cerberus promises to the Reapers to bring them Shepard on a silver platter and in return the Reapers slow down their consumption of the Earth. The goal, from Cerberus's POV, being to actually give Shepard and the Earth time. The squads sent after the Commander by TIM being deliberately (but subtly) undermined by him.

:D, I like that idea, where on Earth did you get it? ;)

I like the idea that something about Shepard (prothean beacon data, cipher, anything like that) could make the Reaper's invasion a lot faster and easier, since they had to use up resources on the trip to the galaxy, they may need it to be faster than usual, thats why they wanted his body in 2. The Illusive Man discovers this, and decides that he needs Shepard either captured or killed (depending on if you destroyed/kept the base) to deny the reapers the asset

That isn't gonna happen. Shepard's acquisition of the cipher was so unimportant it wasn't even mentioned in the ME1 summary for the PS3 version of ME2.

it wasnt? huh. the beacon was though, wasn't it? the cipher wasn't exactly critical to my theory

The beacon is a little hard to ignore, since it starts the whole storyline, but the cipher was Shepard actually gaining a Prothean mind. Without it the beacon message was all scrambled and useless.

Yeah, its critical to the story but not a recap. if questioned about the beacon in 3, shepard probably wouldnt say "oh yeah, the thing i had to kill a giant plant and get brain probed by some asari with shatner syndrome to understand!"

It's still quite telling that an entire plot-world was cut from the recap. Not even one sentence about the cipher.

Whatever though, wish for what you will.

I admit, its kind of a stretch, but its gonna take a little stretching for cerberus trying to kill you to make sense

I'm just real curious how they are going to reconcile the many people who were pro cerberus in their playthroughs. That is if Cerberus isn't working with the reapers then its obvious. As for my renegade shep he is going to be real confused when the guy he has been completely to orders him to be killed. Then again my paragon shep is going to be equally confused when the citadel council allows him to be put on trial after he has stayed completely loyal to them. Either way my sheps are going to be betrayed!

Honestly, the alliance with Cerberus in ME2 was an Enemy Mine situation at best..

Now while I hope that Bioware comes up witha good reason why Cerberus turned on Shepard so quickly (I'm guessing it's a combination of indoctrination and possibly Shepard's actions in Arrival), I can't help but feel the irony in all of this. Renegades always claim they never take blind risks like a paragon does, and paragons should suffer for their actions. I'd say giving Cerberus the collector base was a pretty damn big gamble. :P

And yet all of the paragon gambles pay off, while the renegade one blows up in your face. So while you can say that it only really re-enforces the renegades point <_<

What exactly has "blown up in the renegades face?" Seriously, I see this phrase thrown around but people very rarely ever backs it up. We don't know why Cerberus decided to go after Shepard claiming it to be slight against Renegades is just pure speculation.

Well if it does help then I will cheerfully withdraw my statement, as it stands, from the info given, the only risk that Renegade Shep ever took, giving the base to Cerberus, has failed cause now they are trying to kill you and you loose any advantage the base may have given. Besides I knew it would backfire, its a renegade choice even your squad, every single one of them, says that you were wrong to give the base, even people like Thane, who never expressed an view on Cerberus, or people like Mordin, who should agree. So yes I am upset, but it really annoys me that the game writer feels the need to hit me over the head with what choice that he feels is wrong.

But how is the Cipher beneficial to the Reapers? The Cipher allowed us to categorize and make sense of the Prothean language structure (as formed by images... it basically gives us coherence of their thoughts, at least that's how I understood it to work). What use is an ancient cipher of a long dead species that they've already subjugated and tested upon?
Maybe I'm alone in thinking this; but I would have thought that the Reapers would have had to have 'sampled' some of the Prothean's for their 'essence' before working out whether they're suitable for it.

I'm not saying that the cipher in itself is what they want, but it may lead to other things they do want

It's too bad you can't romance Morinth. She goes so well with Renegade Shepard. So tragic.

Zaeed would have been the most ideal romance for my renegon femshep but sadly Bioware is dead set against "bad boy" LI for female player characters for some odd reason.

well you can, it's just not reccomended. It be neato if you could in 3, minus any sorts of sex of course. Like she wants Shepard to stay alive, but wants to be with him/her too

Liara's cut dialogue mentions it.  It also has the Codex entry.

i never actually chose her for my team before(call me a paragon)
course you might have to worry about her trying to fillet your mind when youre most vulnerable...sex.

It would be interesting as hell to see how Morinth would react to someone not dying from engaging in sex with her. Something tells me she's afraid of having an actual relationship.
