Really! What the hell is this about?
I'm trying to fight these templars here, but my party can't get a hit in before they get insta-knocked back by physical force. I have about 30 seconds untill the second wave comes in making this impossible since they start out by knocking every single of my characters into a corner and locking them there, throwing them around like ****ing dog toys.

It's the fight in Anders' mission in the second act and it's pissing me off. IMO it's a broken fight. It shouldn't be possible to lose because you don't get to do anything! you should lose because you're not good enough. Being stunlocked and corner raped isn't being bad at the game and there's absolutely no way you can learn and improve constructively on that to change the outcome of the fight. To make it all worse, the fight starts with me exiting from a bottleneck and it just gets worse from there!

Bioware, i know you get enough **** from us these days. Lord knows you don't need any more. But this isn't really a good ruleset. It's pretty damn broken. I know you have to invest in strength to withstand these blows, but too much is just too much. Next time, please exclude the physical force system. or at least make the "knock-back" effect require more force, this is a joke that's pissing me off. Much like the Muhammed drawings to the muslims or Boobs in the U.S.

Now i'm going to have to cheese it out through this fight by running back through the bottleneck. It's a solution, but i'd much prefer to be able to fight on equal ground in my encounters. Part of the blame is on me though. My tank can't keep agro to save his ass. Next time, i'd love a game where i actually get to improve my strategy and get rewarded for doing so. Stunlocks belong in DoTA and other ragebased games.

My 2 pissed-at-the-beginning-decreasing-to-slightly-annoyed-at-the-end-cents.

Now that the thread is open anyway. Has anyone else experienced any impossible fights? and how did you manage? Let's share some tales of triumph and failures!

Ser Alrik & co.? It's a pretty tough fight that's true. Sounds like you're playing on nightmare, you may want to reduce the difficulty. And the biggest force dealers are the archers; there's some behind the main guys, on the ledge.
There are some videos from various people with that fight though, you may want to look at them and snag some strategies, they're usually in the various class guides. Also you may get some more specific advice about the fight if you list your party setup, skills, etc. And correctly set up tactics make a big difference, too.

Well. I made it through this battle and the next one. I resorted to the Bottleneck thing. relocated the battle backwards a bit. My party is Anders, Isabela and Sebastian. My biggest problem is that i didn't get my head into the changes in stats and effects from origins until i'd taken a wron turn on almost all of their builds. So, i'm actually playing on hard and having HUGE issues whenever a real fight turns up. The balance is really bad. It should flatline with intermediate bumps at bosses. What it does now is a constant up/down. Hard should be hard across the board. Not flatline at Normal and peak at nightmare. That's just annoying.

An example of my huge mistakes would be me building my S-S tank as a Dex tank rather than a Constitution tank just based on the fact that it worked wonders in Origins. In comes Ancient Rock Wraith and i'm screwed. IMO there are far too many exceptions in relation to the rules when it comes to these bosses and that's what makes a Dex tank a huge disaster.

Now. I've moved on and am still being challenged massively. I enjoy it thoroughly in general so far, but that "knocking the softies around like rags" just turns my face red. What use is the Mind Blast spell when i can't get it off anyway? It's bloody useless. Taunt doesn't transfer ANY agro at all and there are no visible markings of how big a radius it's effective in. There's so many issues with the ruleset and documentation in Origins and DA2. It's gotten hugely better since i actually get numbers to crunch now as opposed to the skills in origins, but i'd seriously appreciate some proper documentation for the next game in the franchise.

But i do appreciate civil responses to an unreasonably pissed off OP. Ser Alrik and the other cornor rapers are now dead and i suggest that untill this thread gets closed we could either share tales of our scars or discuss/ rage about the ruleset.

Ah that fight. Only problem for me was always getting rid of the 2 hunters ASAP. The archers are mostly an afterthought. Knockback should be countered with items or .. more con. especially if normal archers can get your entire party locked down

What is your party/build?

I felt really frustrated when i started playing. The thread is probably still floating around somewhere... I was way to used to the origins battle system as well.

Dont be shy with giving your squishys some con. Mages should grab rock armor. You already realized our tank isnt working so... That`ll work itself out :P

Got some decent burst with that party when build right i suppose. Can setup stagger CCCs if you give anders the lightning skill+ upgrade. not sure how to synergize with Isabella as i find it hard to keep her in party on nightmare

Yeah, you shouldn't play DA2 like Origins, it's a different animal. Read the descriptions a bit more carefully and check some build threads to see what is good and when/why. I think you can learn most of the mechanics of play from those.

Also if you have The Black Emporium you can always buy a Maker's Sight potion and redistribute all your attributes and skills.

Thanks for the advice guys. It's really useful when it comes down to it. I refuse to resort to respeccing (stupid code of honor thing). But i'll adapt the current builds into some form of proper DA2 team dynamic. I've been pumping some Con into them all. But isn't it STR that decides resistance to physical force?
So far Isabela is specced as an acrobat ninja. you know the drill. Anders is my healer with the Panacea dependent skills and a touch of elemental damage and glyph based CC. Sebastian... Well. i'm still trying to find heads and tails in a proper archer build. As for my tank. He's all over the place, but mostly in S-S tree and 4 points in defender on "turn the blade". I've also invested in battle synergy.

I think i'll be able to work out something to salvage this. At least i've succeeded in adressing the issue that led me to lose to the Rock Wraith, which was Low health tank and VERY low DPS overall. It's sky high right now i tell you!

Quote from peter Thomas

Force reactions are directly based on the amount of damage your
character takes relative to your total health. Taking less damage or
having higher health will lower the reaction. Creature damage increases
the higher level they are, individual creatures may have higher force,
and difficulty increases force as well.

There are 4 levels of reaction: (this example is for physical damage reactions)
1 - Character twitches their head. This does not interrupt actions.
2 - Character is knocked back a step. This interrupts actions.
3 - Character stumbles backwards a number of steps. This interrupts actions.
4 - Character is knocked off their feet and flies backwards. This interrupts actions.

The Immunity to Knockback property makes it so that you aren't affected by reaction levels 2 and 3.

So health will help with knockbacks, and it`ll help you survive a little longer even when not knocked. I try to get most my squishyer guys to near 20 con if i intend to let them do their thing

And if you plan to make your dex tank work.. It`ll be a offensive one, i guess. Be sure to pick up cleave from the vanguard tree in that case. your tank has his own abilitys to negate knockbacks btw as you probably found out already

Dexterity only increase critical chance for warriors, not defense.Thats what cunning do now.Buts its not worth it for a "tank" anyway because for example talents and spells from enemys always hit.
So split between strenght and constitution(and a little bit willpower),get shield wall and one rank of stonewall.Use stonewall right when a assassin appear to backstab you.
