Since EA wouldn't have to pay a big share to Lucasarts, the MMO could be more profitable for the company than The Old Republic, analyst says.

MMOs are a waste of time to make. Every single one of them after WoW is a failure in sales and dies off after 2 months.

I happen to know that several people in BioWare are very worried about whether SW:TOR will be profitable. I am sure they do not want to repeat that soon. We are more likely to see a facebook game like DA:Legends.

Unfortunately MMO are extremely expensive to make. You need something like 50 and 35 hours for respectively ME1 and ME2 to finish them for the first time. A MMO needs effectively to provide its user with HUNDREDS of gameplay hours which is quite a lot of content.

^^^^^

An MMO is 100-200 million dollars before you see a dime of revenue.

Apparently it will be the WoW killer, and WoW has been going strong for how long now...Almost 6 years? Have faith, it's BioWare. They will make up the money in no time, people have to buy the game and pay subscription fees. It adds up really quick. Though I would like to see a ME MMO over a SW MMO, anyday. But, that's just me.

MMO's are an even greater abomination than FMV games, I don't know why you'd want to be forced to play one to see more ME content

No MMO expert here, but...

The Old Republic just took to long.
It looks dated before its out of the gate.
Plus, Star Wars just isn't loved as it used to be.

Mass Effect is the young up and comer at the moment.
If Bioware had a magic Genie which would allow them to erase all the work, costs and debts amassed by The Old Republic and allow them to retry it as a Mass Effect MMO, I have a feeling they would.

I would rather not see a MMO. MMOs, I just don't have the patience to play them much anymore. There was a time I loved them, now just the thought of playing one makes me feel a bit annoyed. What would be cool is a game closer to Borderlands for Mass Effect. That seems far more fitting than anything else.

And I really hate the idea of pay to play because I never seem to be committed to the games. So it's like I play it for about 4 months and then I'm done.

From what I've seen in the assorted MMOs I've played over the years, doesn't matter how unique or innovative they are, they all descend to the same cesspool one sees in WoW's trade chat.

They should have thought about that before investing so heavily in TOR (and I'm still upset that they decided to make TOR an MMO instead of just making more KOTOR games).

Yes EA, make two MMO's, let's see how long you survive in the market

ME numbers are still nowhere near the size of Star Wars fandom.  Plus the dated look is because you cannot support Crysis-level graphics in a MMO; your server cannot handle it, and a large part of your customer base does not have computers that can handle it.  So you go for a "stylized" solution.

I happen to know that if they had a genie, they would never have licensed the Hero Engine.  That piece of garbage has been responsible for a lot of their setback.

EA will do it just to compete with Activision.

Something I strongly wish they wouldn't do but I believe the target release date is 2014 or so, after the final WoW expansion has been released.

I probably wouldn't play it, but more power to the people that would.

Aren't MMO's to the videogame industry like restaurants are to the small-business world (i.e. the ones most likely to fail in their sector)?
