They first have to get the Star Wars The Old Republic mmo out first and then they can look into it

this, not even Activision would ask for 2 MMO's from Blizzard at the same time

well Blizzard already said they have another mmo coming

Which according to their timeline, should come out after WoW is pretty much done.  More of a smooth transition to try and keep their massive audience i suppose.

But yeah, planning a second MMO when your first isnt even out yet and thus proven/disproven successful is beyond dumb so i dont think they'll do it. The risk reward ratio simply isnt good enough

Apart from EVE Online, TOR is probably the only MMO I'll ever play (that's assuming that Infinity never gets picked up by a publisher).

As long as they did it right and made the game actually resemble Mass Effect in more than just name.

The horrible travesty they've done to KotOR with TOR so far is painful. Its more WoW with a scifi skin than its a KotOR game. I'd be afraid they'd do the exact same thing with an ME MMO instead of keeping the spirit and combat of the original series.

WoW is what MMO gamers expect these days even when buying competitors games.

It might be awhile before someone offers a truly unique MMO experience.

Analysts are those people who dont the skills to do the job properly, so they get a job telling other people how to do their jobs. They are referred to as seagulls within any industry.
Fly in, make a lot of noise, crap on everything, then leave.

 This is so surprising!

Unless The Old Republic really flops, you gotta know that they were planning on doing this. Multiplayer is where the is money at and the Mass Effect setting lends itself very to MMO design. Also now people can play as Turians, Asari, Salarians, Krogan, etc. They might even try to make it like  MMO Shooter or something. So essentially just remake ME1 with the ability to handle lots of player traffic.

You've got a solid starting fanbase, a good series reputation, I mean why the hell not?

I guess they could keep making singleplayer RPGs, but succesful MMOs can really rake in the money. It'll probably be like $20 a month or something.

"While Electronic Arts has invested millions into making Star Wars: The Old Republic an online powerhouse, Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey said that an MMO based on BioWare's Mass Effect could bring in even more money for the publisher."

And bam, here goes this guy's credibility. Nothing makes more money than Star Wars. Period.

Mmm Marketing and Sales. A job where you get paid to sort of do stuff, but not really, and then make money. Basically a job where you just tell other people what they should do. It's sort of like becoming a Boss, maybe a mini-Boss? I should have done something like that being the ass that I am.

But there's this little nagging voice in my head that suggests I should do actual productive work that actually benefits people. Ah but there goes any wealth I might ever acquire...

Curently there is one succesful, western MMO that rake money. It's too early to talk about DC universe's sucess and we still don't know if TOR will manage to find place in the market while WoW is still there. Other big MMO games are pretty much failing to reach critical mass and go FTP with microtransactions.

Mass Effect is very well set up to encourage a MMO, unfortunately enough. Only unfortunate because it's not my preferred medium. I've enjoyed a lot of what they previewed they were doing with TOR. Like companions and concentrating more on story. It'll be interesting to see how it's done.

A ME MMO is likely the only one I'd consider a subscription fee for. I just don't like the idea of paying up front for the game, having to pay additional money monthly, and then being locked out of the content I've already played because I don't want to spend $15 a month anymore.

I'd really like to see something new done with MMO's though. I think the shooter mechanics of mass effect could present an interesting starting point.

I don't think he meant more money up front, but more money directly to EA, as they would not have to pay LucusArts for use of their material.

Kind of true... LucasArts are greedy bastards. Basicaly a Mass Effect MMO sucess would depend on TOR sucess. If TOR achives what it is ment to, everyone will remember BioWare as the WoW breaker and thus, their further products in this genre will be more hyped. If TOR shows up to be another game that had to go FTP because not enough people played it... yeah.

He he.

Darth:"You are weak old man."
Lucas:"You can't win Darth. Even should you stike me down my products will still outsell yours."
*Darth swings Lightsaber*
*Pats Lucas' robes for money*
*Looks up at sales chart for Star Wars merchandise*
Darth:"NNNOOOOOOOOOO!!!"

MMOs are a waste of time to make. Every single one of them after WoW is a failure in sales and dies off after 2 months.

1st False, many still live today
2nd reason why they fail is because they are WoW clones

Because they did WoW clones and not something new.

If they made a Mass Effect mmo, I would have absolutely zero interest. And that is saying a lot because I am a HUUUGE Mass Effect fan. In fact, I would probably play any genre of game built around the Mass Effect universe EXCEPT an mmo. I, for one, certainly hope they don't do that; just keep giving us high-quality RPGs and I'll be happy.

Clearly that guy doesn't play mmo's >.>

Blizzard's first mmo was WoW.
Bioware's first mmo will be ToR.

Bioware isn't doing everything Blizzard did. Like I said on my ToR thread it's changing stuff. MMO's need a change and Bioware is doing that through it's questing system mostly and more.

Companions like in any Bioware game that can be romanced, that do your crafting when your offline, questing system more like Mass Effect 2 and actual voice actors for every NPC in the game. Jennifer Hale voicing the female Republic Troopers!

Ships that serves as a home and bank for your companions and yourself. Used to travel from planet to planet to accept near quests. Crew skills and missions skills.

The game looks amazing. I quit WoW back in Feburary and I want a new MMo and The Old Republic looks amazing. With each classes story line being 200 hours each and 8 classes I think i wont need another game for a LONG time.

Besides Bioware can't just create ToR and suddenly make a Mass Effect mmo. EA most likely has spent $100 million on ToR a lot of people say seems realistic considering how long it's been in developement and how much voice actors they must have hired. All the equipment they are going to need eventually. A Mass Effect mmo would be too much for Bioware currently. I'd prefer one mmo anyways instead of two. I know I won't be able to turn down ToR or a ME one.

Would Bioware want or have the means to run two MMOs at the same time? Plus they'd be competing with themselves.

Mass Effect MMO would essentially kill the whole franchise.
If it fails then ME is deemed unprofitable and Bioware would have to fight EA to get more games out.
Same if the MMO is just barely profitable.
On the other hand if it's great success then we wouldn't see many ME single player games anymore. Just remember what happened to RTS Warcraft.

MMOs kill franchises in terms of no more single player sequels. I was a fan of warcraft rts since the 90s. I haven't played a blizzard game since WOW came out. And no surprise, no more new warcraft rts.

but an MMO would be a money maker for bioware, but they wouldn't put one out anytime soon if it meant competition with the Old Republic.

i dunno....a ME mmo would most likely be for PC and perhaps PS3...that would leave us on the 360 in the breeze. I dont see it happening.

I would like MEMMO...Just imagine:Collecting resources on Palaven, fighting Tresher Maw on Tuchanka, doing quests for SB,buying things at the citadel....It could be pretty awesome,if made correctly.

To be fair,  that is a fairly successful business model if done right.  Supposedly LOTR:Online has more players and has made more money since they went that route.

And you don't even want to know the metric truckload of cash FarmVille makes.  WoW is nothing.
