The Old Republic

I have never been more excited for a game or ever waited for a game this long. What Bioware is doing with Old Republic can possibly change MMo's in general. Questing, crafting, exploration. To begin I have actually beta'd the game I'm not allowed to say more. I have played it at Pax also.

Who else is excited for the game? I have left World of Warcraft after four years. I enjoyed it I really did. While many hate the game I don't I have a busy schedule so it was great for me to be able to play a populated MMo and always find people to do stuff with.

Some of ToR hopes to do

Dialogue in the game is fully voiced. Every npc you see in the game! Jennifer Hale is one of the voices in the game (yay!) and there are conversations like in Mass Effect with the wheel but better yet there are multiplater conversations. So you can end up getting outcomes you would never have chosen or expect. Which can be really fun depending on your groups or if your friend is in a murderous rampage mood.

Heroic combat. From what I have played combat is very fun and fast and not as easy as other MMO's It does challenge the player. Your challenged but don't feel weak. There is no autoattack so your actively involved.

You get your own ship which serves as a home. Companions stay inside, instead of a bank you have a cargo hold, you can craft here, you can tavel from planet to planet.

Companions that are more then pets. You can romance them even and you send they are tied to the crafting system. You can only have one companion with you at any one time. The rest stay on your ship. I'll explain how the crafting system works.

Three different types of "crew skills" which is what basically crafting, gathering and missions.
Crafting Skills is well crafting your gear. Crafting isn't instant and you can que up stuff so it can be crafted while your not even playing. There is crafting crits as well.
Gathering is gathering. You can gather stuff yourself while outside exploring and such but your companions back on your ship also gather instead of doing nothing!
Mission skills are interesting. You can have your companions complete missions for you where you can either gain lightside/darkside points, some loot or credits.

Each class has it's own story that has been said is up to "200" hours along.Questing shouldn't be as boring like in every other mmo. With questing more a kin to Mass Effect/Dragon Age it won't feel as much of a grind and fun.

Each planet is supposedly the size of Kalimdor from World of Warcraft...which is pretty damn huge.

Some links that might pique your interests.

What kind of discussion when you put post no information on it? Not sure of TOR but i'm not onto MMO. I'll pass.. if i'm looking to multiplayer, Diablo 3 is something that i would be considering.

I an curious over the final product, and excited for Bioware at creating a story driven MMO. However, there are some personal hurdles I must overcome in order to play this monster, and possible Pay to Play cost is a major one as I currently have no income. But I am glad there are others interested in supporting the game.

Go Bioware Team USA!

Have you heard of Eve Online? Fantastic game ridicuously difficult learning curve.

There is an item called "Pilot License Extentsion" which can be bought with ingame for some redicously amount. Some people actually never pay for time and because the entire game is on one server the crafting/selling of the game is much more unique then any other MMO.

Eve really is a great game but damn is it difficult.

Not a fan of MMO's really, as I dislike griefers and those of that ilk. But I am interested to see if TOR could be developed to encourage dislogue driven storylines and restrict and/or eliminate PK altogether.

So far, they've only impressed me with the voice-acting and the background story. And the facepalm-inducing Hope trailer doesn't help either.

You do know there are PvE servers in most MMOs right?

I am aware chages were made after my initial research, as griefing and PK were the most frquent complaint seen of MMO's. As I understand, Guild Wars does not have PvP unless both partes agree and meet in a designated area.

However, such soutions are not guaranteed, and character conflicts may still occur verbally which these Forums illustrate. And if I am to Pay for the priveledge to Play, I would prefer to actually enjoy myself in the game wioth friends rather than continue to roll my eyes at the whiny, elistist, entitled airheads that choose to ruin the experience for others.

Unfortunately there is no way to stop it completely. An MMO are games like no other so you should expect to run into the occasinsonal douche bag. Though when an MMO first comes it definitely when the community is at it's best. Helpful, polite and quest area's just full of people running all over the area.

Lord of the Rings Online had a great community before it was free I haven't been back since.
Eve well the stories you can hear really are what make it so unique but with the right corporation it can be fun.
WoW every time a new expansion is out you see the best in people. It's sad though when a couple of weeks later the community goes back to normal.

Still I would give the game a chance. Bioware/EA is sparing no expense to make this successful and they are trying their hardest. EA is helping by pretty much keeping out the way.

Eh, interaction with fellow players is the bread and butter of MMOs. Surely a portion of people  you'll meet live to cause you a headache. Just like in forums though, it is extremely easy to either avoid, ignore or entirely mute the voices you find irritating.

Roleplaying in MMOs more or less put the RP in RPG for me! At best, the level of immersion and interaction provided in LOTRO or WoW even is quite impressive.
...and from entirely different ballpark than what single player games could ever muster.

Based from my experience with small m/p games, and large populated forums, I much prefer the former these days. No offense to anyone reading, but there are loonies loose in this here world.

And while I remain unable to type well, most MMO's will get a pass. But this one is to have enough dialogue and storyline for a small collection of books, so my silent style of play may not be as needed.

Here is to a really good idea, and a new standard for MMORPG's

Traditionally WoW's general chats and whatnots have been animal houses more or less. Even so.. with 10 million++ active players, you find endless quantities of very good people. There are plenty of large and pretty amazing communities within the community that reeks foul only on surface.

Case in point;
http://www.argentarc...rchives.org/    < - - To those who have never really played an MMO properly, this site can  do great job in helping to paint a picture of what Roleplaying in an MMO can mean. Everything on the site is player generated content, written entirely in character.

Heheh, I hear ya. Suppose it ultimately boils down to just how much you are bothered by the said loonies:p I myself end up being entertained by em, more often than not.

I was following this game like crazy a year or so ago. I had quit WoW and Champions Online and Global agenda just didn't do it for me. But then I started playing my 360 and PC more, now I'm back to Old Republic hype.

I guess there's a reason why they keep churning out fancy CGI that have nothing to do with the actual gameplay whatsoever.
