So does this game follow the usual trend of MMOs, or does it have RPG elements along the lines of KOTOR? By that i mean companions, branching storyline, companions quests etc.

I never was really interested in MMO's, mainly because they lacked these aspects. If this is supposed to be some kind of KOTOR 2 though i might give it a shot.

Its far from the usual MMORPG. Its more like a bioware single player game with other players added. Each class has its own unique story line and 5 companions specific to their story. Those companions you build good/bad relationships with based on your choices, can give gifts to, and even romance if you were so inclined.

You can only take one of your companions along at a time. The ones you aren't using you can send out on 'missions'...sending them out on menial crafting/harvesting tasks, for example. You can also get kits to customize the looks of those companions so they don't look the same as every other player.

When teamed with other players it still plays like a Bioware game. Where you and your team share the dialogue options in cutscenes. You earn Social experience for playing the game this way. So far its been a really fun mix of the best parts of a single player Bioware game and an MMORPG. And with 8 different fully voiced storylines and (40 companions to meet) it should have a pretty good amount of replay value.

I haven't actually managed to get a ship yet. However, on the space station there are terminals in the central area near the cantina that let you 'access your cargo hold' (even if you don't have a ship)

Which works pretty much like 'banks' in other MMOs

Well when you find out where on the ship is the storage area let me know, I played in beta and I couldn't find the storage area on my ship.

I redeemed my code on the first day pre-orders were available and had a very enjoyable day of gaming yesterday. I have really, really good feelings about TOR. The social points and group dialogue aspect are handled so well, kudos to BioWare on that one.

Nameless, I've not played the Inquisitor or Warrior to a point where I've had a ship yet, but the cargo hold in the Imperial Agent ship is wall mounted. It will give that faint purple glow that other interactable objects show. This video shows a tour of the Fury if you care to look, I believe it shows the cargo hold.

I have been playing on/off since the 13th, and just received word that my standard game order from Amazon should arrive by the 16th in time to input key codes. Thus far, my experience has been improvement at every opportunity; nothing ro critizize.

I was planning to buy after Christmas, but after reading the faq, i changed my mind. I don't like this at all:
If i go to a store and buy the game, i can't even play it, because they obligate me to give them my credit card number, or BUY a prepaid card beside the game, when they are advertising it with 30 days FREE play time included. Is this even legal?

Thank you, but i would like to decide after a month of gaming to whether it is worth further payment or not.

But i would buy if Bioware would make the "Subscribe (or redeem a Game Time Code)" menu optional, until the 30 days "free" playtime is over, or make a third choice like: "I will decide later, after 30 days free playtime is over".

Imagine this: a parent buys the game for his/her child, but (s)he can't play because this stupid restriction.

I also would buy without hesitation if they would remove all multiplayer features and sell as a single player game.

Have you never heard of MMO games or understand how they work? Yes it's legal and not something new.

I have yet to see anything making the pre-paid or CC route as mandatory, though Sherlock Holmes I ain't. AFAIK, the only thing I need to continue play uninterrupted is to input my product code; a pre-paid card from Amazon is seperate and optional.

What is a shame is I wish the Bioware Store here carried such cards; not seeing t=any SWTOR products thus far.

You don't have to put a credit card or prepaid code for the first month then?

My bad; look thru this for current FAQ:

http://www.swtor.com/preorder/faq

Some things have altered a bit, such as Grace period; now getting hard copy early instead. But even if I have to wait for Christmas to gain a pre-paid card, I have Skyrim in the interim....

I don't have any issue with buying prepaid/game/time card AFTER the first month, if i liked their game and decided to continue. I have problem with that they promise me 30 days playtime, yet they won't let me play it even after i bought the game. It's that simple. It's a shameful business policy.:(

Hasn't it always been like that? Eve Onlie does it, WoW does it..any other MMO I tried did it.

As the game must be purchased to even get the first 30 days, I tend to agree with olymind1.

Asking us to invest in added time, or place CC info on file seems rather pushy, if nothing else. Personally, I am fine storing CC info with sites that have proved to offer security, but after being burned a couple of years ago, I hesitate to do so on an unproven location; a major reason I wish Bioware would consolidate merbandise to here.

Ya that is pretty much standard you get the first month free but you still need to provide a form of payment when you sign up.

Hell I tried Age of Conan when it went free to play and had the expansion pack but they still wanted my credit card information to activate the expansion even though I was gonna play a F2P account.
