It's cause they make us go, "Oh God, why couldn't the last three movies have been this cool"?

Neither of them are much different. They're both style over substance.

For gameplay fans, these are for you:

Only have seen the last one, so I am hoping that these may fill in gaps many of us had in question form going in before E3.

I liked both, though with my RL lack of reflexes, I kept thinking I would fall off fairly often with no actual installed seat.

As for that CGI trailer, I quite enjoyed it also, though I would proabably misfire purposely at anyone wearing a hat like that....

Things I noticed on the demos is that PvP seems restricted to specific areas and events, so that lifts some anxiety, and that play seemed casual; not Twitchy and hectic. And the death events seem well thought out in advance.

I enjoyed KOTOR except for the mini-games, so maybe this one bears watching until release.

Well I am assuming there will be at least two types of servers for people.

Pvp servers which means no matter what their is open world pvp so even if you don't feel like it people will be able to just jump you and well kill you.

Pve servers. Which is basically the opposite where you have designated areas for pvp or can manually flag for pvp if you choose.

I miss Pazak! I hope it makes a return in TOR. There's a great thread over on the TOR forums about a cantina and what it can do for TOR.

http://www.swtor.com...ad.php?t=157126
There are some really great ideas in here.

Considering how story-heavy TOR is there are almost certainly going to be rp servers, maybe rp-pvp but I think that's still up in the air right now.

More mini-games would be a welcome addition for me. Considering space combat is basically just a mini-game already it's not out of the question that there could be things like pazaak, maybe even swoop racing or arenas like in KOTOR as ways to make extra credits at some point.

There are many more clips at Youtube. Within one of them, there was mentioned that the Sea of Dust on Tatooine was a major PvP area, and that Light & Darkness had seperate starting areas on the same map.

Lots of info came out this past week, it seems; just need to sift thru the clips to gather it all.

Huh, I thought this thread died, who necro'd it?

Anyways, like I've said before many times, this MMORPG is going to fail, if not atleast not be able to enter the competitive MMO market.

I for one hope you are incorrect, as I would enjoy seeing more story driven games appear in the future, and let the Player Killers go elsewhere.

Have you considered telling Bioware? Or the 1 million+ people already signed up for testing? If they knew you'd decided TOR is going to fail they could find something else to do...

Why so many people think they know for a fact that TOR won't work is completely beyond me.

Game is nice (dam, it's star wars) but it's not enough in my opinion.
1. Game is another MMO clone. You can kill me for that statemant but it's not offering ANYTHING new. You got standard roles like tank, healer, damager etc... nothing new
2. Bioware should expect that 90% of people will roll as Jedi
3. Voice acting alone is not enough. Still it's nice. I enjoy DC Universe Online and way quest are done. Voice acting is good decision.
4. Dialogues ? It's very random. You select answer but only one person will really answer. Also you must wait for that person :| This could be the problem. Just like gathering party can be a problem.
5. Jedi are powerfull yet here soldier take all dmg and Jedi must hide his ass so he will not get killed.
6. Good game is a game that add something unique. SWTOR dont have anything so unique that it would keep me interesting.

So I must say that right now i will try SWTOR for sure but I enjoy more DC Universe. And I will probably enjoy it later. DC is fresh in many ways. SWTOR is just another MMO like many. Only thing they add is voice acting and cinematic dialogues. And this is biggest problem.
WOW right now is first MMO. And they produce game more WOW like than something unique. Just look like this game look. That stupid lightsaber design and stuff. It's clear what they aiming for. (i'm not wow player or fan - still swtor look like wow with blasters and lightsabers). It make me laugh when i saw some high lvl armor design :-D

Loot of good MMO failed just because they try to take out WOW when they should make their own unique experience. Just see EVE Online. Market change. There are new games nad stuff and EVE is still EVE. Out there - always popular, always top of the list.

And it take forever for them to release the game so I can only wait.

Well so far I have enjoyed what I played and if each class really is about 200 hours of playtime then I will enjoy it.

*sigh* I'm sick to death of WoW comparisons...

They belong to the same genre, of course they're similar. Is every FPS that comes out a CoD clone? No! You point the gun at the enemy then shoot, that's just how those games work, doesn't make them all clones of one another. TOR's the same way, you target the enemy and use abilities to kill it, it's a good way to do it, and how RPGs have been doing it since long before WoW. No, they haven't reinvented the entire genre, why should they? They've made an MMORPG and given it enough unique elements and character to make it its own game, if you can't get past the superficial similarities to WoW then good for you, I hope that cynicism is more fun than it looks.

Eh, Bioware don't pay me enough for this.

Why doesn't this have its own section, like all other Bioware games?

Oh, all right. Was just wondering why there was an Old Republic thread in the Off-Topic section, when it should by all rights have its own BSN section.

Hm. That site isn't on BSN. Strange.

Well i didn't say it's WOW clone. I say it's just another MMO out there that look like everything else.
And later I compare it to WOW not because it's WOW clone but because WOW is most popular MMO out there right now.
It's just like i compare FPS to Battlefield or COD series. Only natural.

I do agree that this is wrong place to discuss it.

Unless WoW is a story driven MMORPG, I guess the comparison is lost on this Ancient One. The difference is that I do not play WoW; may get to play SWTOR.

The gameplay is the same. People judge the game by that alone because gameplay has always defined MMOs for the most part.

Evidently, not all the people. While some may judge by such criteria, others may be more concerned about content, storyline, and being able to interact in that environment.

Gameplay and overall..flow of combat looks very much lilke WoW,as does the UI and engine as whole. Comparsions are invetiable. I don't see why that would be a bad thing. Time is against every single MMORPG that decides to take this particular approach though.People are getting very tired of MMORPGs that have the same old approach to combat and movement. I played through trial of Rift recently and it made me want to vomit. Nothing significant wrong with the game but everything was so familar, dull and " been there done that" - it felt like I'd never want to play through another lvl in brand new MMORPG out of this particular mold. Not without getting paid to do so.

(Earlier)vids showcasing tanking mechanics didn't please me much..It just looks plain silly to have this big minigun guy standing in rock star pose and soaking laser fire. IMHO game where air is thick of supposedly lethal futuristic projectile weapon fire, tanking mechanics based on avoidance would work better. It'd look nicer to see a smuggler holding aggro and "soaking damage" by avoiding it, leaping from cover to cover etc etc. It'd look flashier, more Star Wars  and less clumsy than this generic dumb thick necked gears of war dude standing there and taking hits. In general, it'd be great to see some fresh air when it comes to the DPS+Tank+Healer  mechanic nobody has bothered to alter in what., 10 years.

That said, I instantly  forgive/ignore  everything mechanics related if characters and story as whole is  well written and captivating.

I just read two great reviews

17 hours as a Bounty Hunter

17 hours as an Imperial Agent

I've never played any MMOs before or had any interest, but these reviews sound pretty interesting. It seems that Bioware managed to keep up the same level of storytelling as a single player game.
