Well they both got off lighter that Canderous, my smuggler just found his skull in an imperial vault and sold it for credits.

Or maybe that makes Canderous the one who got off lightly, depends how you look at it... Important thing is: I got my credits. B)

I have to ask. What are the chances of this getting ported to Xbox 360 or 720 or whatever? Been a fan since I was a kid playing KotOR back in '03. Eight years later and I can't play this awesome game (saw a couple of videos) because it's an MMO and my PC sucks.

I'm as disappointed as I'm excited for this game... because I can't play. Hope you guys get this in BioWare Houston.

I'd say no chance. MMO's on console just don't work. If you really want to play your gonna need a PC. The only MMO I can think of that should be headed to consoles is Final Fantasy 14 and well I'm not touching that.

Thought I'd share... got atop the golden giant Hutt statue on Nar Shadaa with a fellow BSN'er (FeralEwok) and proceeded to dance away :)

Saw this on the TOR forums!. How to get the steam overlay to work with Old Republic finally. Ran Cademimu for the first time. Really like the whole design of that place. The flashpoint takes place while the government is trying to leave to the Republic.

Yes that is a Cantina fight.

Why is it that everything Star Wars has to revisit the same planets over and over again?

I prefer new planets, but my guess is nostalgia.

So why is this game getting so much hate? I'm on their forums right now and all i see are 20 page threads saying it's the worst experience ever without explaining why.

Can anyone elaborate on what exactly the core complaints are?

Very core?

They claim it's a WOW rip-off and mostly whine about the lack of innovations.

Usually then the conservations moves on to how GW2 will pwn TOR's butt etc etc.

That and it's just backlash after huge hype... I also think it's the subscription fee. When people have to pay to play, they tend to get really nitpicky about everything. =]

Similar to the complaints here about DA2 when it was released, its the place to go to complain about the game even if you have no valid complaints or even jujst want to nit pick.

My only complaint (for now - played it only for about 20 hours) is poor graphics optimization.
They had like how many ? 6 years - why didn't they develop their own engine for this game?

Besides that the game is not bad. I am having a lot of fun playing it.

Well i guess a big difference there is that TOR is getting praised by everyone outside of the forums. That couldn't be said for DA2.

Anyway, does this game have the depth of the usual BW RPG? I'm contemplating whether to get this, as i don't play MMOs, but having just finished KOTOR i'm eager to try this out; but only if the RPG aspects of it (Story, choice, character depth, roleplaying ability) are up to scratch.

No, just no. There are a lot of valid complaints for both DA2 and TOR. TOR however is an MMO and needs have some of it's bigger issues fixed because if too many people just quit well that would suck.

And a word from Gabe on the Pvp updates! Giid ti see Ilum being fixed because it definitely needs it.

"Fellow PvPers, thank you for taking on the challenge of player vs player combat in The Old Republic!

In the first week after launch there were over a million Warzone matches played, with nearly half of all players participating in Warzones. Bad news for Republic players, though - the Empire currently leads overall, having won 53% of all Alderaan Civil War and Voidstar matches (across all servers). Huttball has been played the most, accounting for 39% of all matches – and yes, we’ll be adding a new same faction vs. same faction enabled Warzone in the future.

We are all really excited at the tremendous volume of participation we’ve seen in PvP thus far. Your interest and demand dictates what we’ll be delivering in the near future. I wanted to give you some insight into where we are with PvP development and where we are going.

First and foremost here is what we are addressing as a top priority:

Level 50 Bracket Warzones: Level 50 players will have a bracket of their own, playing in separate Warzone matches to lower level players. This is something we have wanted to do for some time and now that there is an increasing number of level 50 players we will be implementing the feature in January.

Open World PvP on Ilum: The planet of Ilum currently allows for open world PvP even on a PvE server, but the mechanics and incentives of the planet are not in as intended yet. We’re working on longer term goals for the planet and for other PvP areas, but expect to see some interim adjustments in January - such as more respawn points to focus conflicts, restricting Companion Characters from the area, and revisions to rewards. Ilum will also become a major source of Valor. Valor buffs will increase and decrease based on the objectives your faction owns. These buffs increase the amount of Valor you receive per player kill. However they do not give anything in and of themselves, so players will still need to defeat other players for significant Valor rewards. Additionally, daily and weekly missions will require player kills to complete. Player kills for quests and Valor credit will have diminishing returns per player killed. So, the more players that are fighting other players, the better it is for everyone.

Combat Gameplay: You’ll see several optimizations come online in January, and we are going to continue to tune this as time goes on.

We also have other exciting features coming in the near future including Ranked Warzone Matches, PvP Stat Tracking, Open World PvP Loot Drops, more Warzone medals for different objectives, Guard Optimizations and Target Optimizations.

Additionally we’re looking at ways to enable team vs. team, more level brackets and the ability to choose which Warzone you want to play in.

This is not a complete list of everything we’re working on that’s PvP related, but we have to keep some surprises for later! Thanks again for all your feedback and please keep it coming. We read as much as we can then cross reference with metrics to take action on features and tuning the game to ensure an enjoyable and competitive PvP community.

But the lightsaber forms are still mass up in-game tho, bioware need to make change on the combat forms like in KOTOR 2 even if they didn't developed the game also Jedi Guardians should have Form V: Shien / Djem So and Form IV: Ataru lightsaber forms, Jedi Sentinel should have Form VII: Juyo for more damage.

Can't see an arguement over a subscription fee being valid.  Many MMO's have subscription fees and even the F2P ones have them (and in many cases you need one to actually enjoy the game and not get microtransactioned to death).

Though many not like it the one plus of subscriptions is it helps keep the player base more stable.  In F2P model games you can have a whole bunch of people to play one day, then if they decide to leave the next you would have to find new people to replace them (I was in one guild in a F2P game that pretty muched all they did was recruit 24/7 to replace people coming in and going out).

I honestly see this game as an ENORMOUSLY dragged out RPG with multiplayer. Is that what MMORPGs are supposed to feel like?

If so, i guess i just don't like the genre. The amount of fetch quests (Basically every side quest) that are located on the other side of a barren wasteland is just not my style. I can't avoid them either, as you cannot progress in the main story unless you're a high enough level.

I guess it's my fault for expecting something else. I don't think i'm cut out for MMOs. It honestly just feels like a normal RPG, but with so much filler it makes my balls hurt.

Just looking at all the storylines with great potential and characters in the game makes me weep for the KOTOR 3 that will never be. I really want to get into this game, but the majority of the game is fetching and levelling, something i can't dedicate enough time and effort to to actually enjoy the storyline.

Since someone decided to make a thread on ToR that just got locked I'll bump it but please no flaming.

@Redbadger

1. Have you even played the game?

Yes, I have and own the Collector's Edition. I don't hate the game but it definitely plays just like WoW.

2. Make sure your graphics settings are all on high, as the game is clearly much better looking than KOTOR2.

Better looking than Kotor 2? Sure but the engine can't handle too many people, the graphics have gotten worse since beta. Beta had a distance slider and highres textures. The ingame Anti aliasing is crap imo I barely notice a difference and prefer just forcing AA through Catalyst launcher also Bioware chose this graphic/art style so more people can run it but you can google how high builds have a lot of issues running the game in populated areas. I know I do.

3. If you cant run the game on high, quit whining that it looks like KOTOR2, because it doesn't.

True but Old Republic isn't very detailed either.

4. SWTOR has some of the best graphics out, by MMO standards.

Nope. It tries to copy off of WoW yet WoW has much higher resolution textures, amazing water, sharper shadows, DX11 features that improve the fps and more color. Look at Guild Wars 2 and Tera I posted two screenshots below. This is what MMO's coming out now are starting to look like and also look at Rift and Eve Online.

5. Same engine. No. KOTOR1 and 2 were turn-based.

Yea they are different engines but there is no denying Bioware should either have made their own, used a finished engine or waited for Hero Engine to be finished before starting work on designing the game.

6. This game has been worked on for years. Work on a game for that long and declare "lack of effort" how dare you man.

This is a service we are paying for why shouldn't we criticize them?

So please know what you are actually talking about.

Yeah, to be honest that's pretty much all MMORPGs, and most MMOs, it's just the "best fit" for making it enjoyable that anyone's come up with so far.

Even though it's not ideal, it does provide enough play to keep people occupied in a loosely enjoyable way.

Here's what I think:

Is this the best MMO I have ever played? Yes, without a doubt.

Is this the best game I have ever played? Nope, not even close.

I'm very much enjoying the game right now, but that's not going to last unless they churn out storyline content in rapid succession (which would be inherently harmful to quality). Even so, I think I'm going to take a break soon, because it's an extremely exhausting game - like a Mass Effect playthrough lasting several days worth of game time.

www.marketwatch.com/story/ea-falls-on-broker-concerns-about-star-wars-2012-01-19

SAN FRANCISCO (Marke****ch) -- Shares of Electronic Arts Inc. fell nearly 3% to $17.75 on Thursday morning after an analyst with Brean Murray Carret & Co. cut his price target on the stock to $22 from $28, citing concerns about the recently released online multi-player game "Star Wars: The Old Republic." In a note to clients, analyst Todd Mitchell wrote that "creeping concerns" about the performance of "Star Wars" -- which was released in late December -- is causing him to trim his earnings estimates for the 2013 fiscal year. "Specifically, initial sales appear to be below expectations, and casual observation ofearly play is causing us to rethink our churn assumptions," Mitchell
wrote.

I bet Bioware wished they made Kotor 3 now....

lol, Bioware and EA full of fail. Remember the days when Bioware actually made good games?
